Oh do I have questions about the order of the draft!

I think that Metrostars have an extra first round pick (Dallas' pick from the DJ Countess trade). By my count (and from what I've seen), Metrostars have the #2 pick (next to last place) and the #5 pick (Dallas pick) in the first round.

 

Do we still have our first round pick, or did we trade it for Diaz Arce?

(This is a joke, but we did trade an awful lot of picks for his awful return.)

 

Burn have #4 pick (from Fire) and did give up #5 to Metrostars.


Anyone want to bet you guys never use any of your picks, but instead package them and ship'em off to the Revs for Serna and Chacon?

 

The Revs apparently want to keep Serna, who on their bench on Sunday.

Now, a trade for Rooney and Chacon, on the other hand...

 

If I see Serna in a DC Uniform..............

Here are the transactions that involved 2003 Super Draft Picks or "considerations":


1)Sigi Schmid's squad also acquired forward Chris Albright and a second round pick (24th Overall) in the 2002 SuperDraft from D.C. United in a post-draft transaction. Los Angeles sent its first and second round selections in the 2002 SuperDraft to United in addition to a conditional pick in the 2003 SuperDraft.

2)D.C. United announced today that the club has traded midfielder/defender Carey Talley to the Kansas City Wizards for future considerations.

3)D.C. United announced today that the club has traded their third round pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft to the Dallas Burn in exchange for former Tampa Bay Mutiny forward Ali Curtis.

4)The Dallas Burn announced today that the team has acquired goalkeeper D.J. Countess and a 2nd round selection in next year’s draft from the MetroStars. In return, the MetroStars got recently acquired midfielder Winston Griffiths and the Burn’s 1st round selection in next year’s draft.

5)In order to acquire Palacios, the Rapids traded a second-round selection in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft to the Fire.

6)The Burn obtained the Fire’s first round SuperDraft pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. In exchange for the first round pick, the Fire received an undisclosed amount of salary budget relief from the Burn and one of the Burn’s third round selections in next year’s SuperDraft.

7)The Chicago Fire executed a trade with D.C. United today, acquiring defender Orlando Perez from United in exchange for the Fire’s natural second round pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft.

8)In exchange for Zambrano, United will forgo remaining "future considerations" from the Chris Albright trade (1/11/02)

Now Transactions 1 and 8 cancel each other out. So the rest of them are still on as of now. So that should leave this order for the first three rounds. It does not however account for what the possible "Future Considerations" for Talley end up being. Now if the Bob Bradley "trade" goes through the order will change again, with Chicago taking probably the #2 overall pick.

Claymore, you are not being sucked into the conspiracy theory are you?? A job was open, a coach under contract wanted his hometown coaching job, deal done.

 

Not so much about the coaching move as about what the league will/has guaranteed Bradley as part of the deal.

 

I am not expecting any more than normal MLS "rules" If Faria goes to Chicago then he has two SI slots. Might get "help" filling them but that is all I expect.

Metros seem to have two allocations (You suck, Diallo). (Doesn't that parenthetical material work nicely?)

They get rid of Faria, who is a pretty good pickup for Chicago and probably better than anything available in the draft.

That leaves them two SI spots open and two allocations to fill those spots. Pretty good situation for them. With Ramos retiring, they should have some money available.

Of course, up until now their SIs have been some of the worst decisions in the league. So, I'm thinking the'll take Gazza and Ginola or something like that. At the very least, I'm thinking that they'll take two players, at least one of whom won't last the season with them.

If/when Jeffries goes to New York,

He'll have Mathis and Howard. Two players who can take over games by themselves.

He'll have a TON in the warchest (by MLS standards, anyway) with Diallo, Tab, and (I'm assuming) Balboa gone.

He'll at least 2 SI slots open(what is Andy Williams?), 2 allocations, and 2 first round draft picks(#2 and 7).

And it's Jeffries, not Oz or Hudson, so you can't automatically assume that some of the new additions will be total busts.

 

If ,according to the New York print media, the compensation is Faria and a conditional pick then I would expect it to be a 2nd round pick (in this case the 16th overall pick). That would also signal to me that either Razov or Wolff might be on the way out. That is speculation. Back to the point though I don't expect it would be Faria and a 1st round pick although it could be the #7 pick but I doubt it.

 

The conditional pick is in 2004. 12th pick or higher in the draft. That sounds to me like the league is planning on there being 2 expansion teams drafting and the 10 existing teams to Chicago gets Faria and a 1st round next year.

Is anyone else curious to know whether we'll actually get anything for Talley? He turned into a regular stater for KC (started 19 games and played in 24) so it would seem that United deserve decent compensation (e.g. at least a high second round pick). But, of course, future considerations have a way of disappearing like donuts at Moreno's house.

Personally, I'm hoping (ok, maybe dreaming) that they'll cough up Eric Quill. That'd give DC a solid Maessner-like left winger. It'd allow Mapp to develop and Convey to slide into the middle.

 

I would take either Quill or the 3rd pick in the second round. That would give United 3 of the first four picks in the seocnd round. Heck even a blind man could hit a barn with that many chances.

 

This is the team that only made one of four penalty kicks last year...

This question is open for anyone. How does San Jose get the 8th pick if they were the first out in the playoffs? If it's because of their regular season record, then shouldn't New England have a higher pick as they had a worse regular season record than SJ, Colorado and Dallas?

I was wondering the same thing that the SlipperyOne was. How is the order determined (it seems I forget every year!), by regular season points, by regular and playoff points, by playoff points only (and regular season for the non-playoff teams), or by playoff seedings (i.e. NE Revolution finished 5th but were seeded 2nd)? Are the tiebreakers the same as for the playoffs? Are there any "extra" picks added in?

I keep reading how the Metros have the 2nd (Metro's natural pick) and the 5th (Dallas' pick from Griffiths/Countess trade).
