Right now it's the offseason for me. As you can probably tell, I'm a sweeper. I'm looking for some drills specific to my position to improve. I'd like to especially work on my ability to clear a ball. Any tips/drills would be appreciated.
www.soccersoul.com check it out. go to the fitness training section, they have position-specific training for fitness there.
Thanx. But, I was looking for something that is more like a workout plan. A little gym action(lifting especially) and maybe some technique drills for long balls.
Alright, first you should be lifting everyday, and switch this every day, arms, legs, arms, legs, etc.... That should keep your whold body in shape. The alway be touching a ball juggle and just be hitting it and when you can pass it with somebody else. Try getting your friends together and play some mini games. I got better by working out what i wanted to and did it at my speed you should develop the same thing.
I play center mid ..... so i kinda have to clear the ball at times too.....it's kinda stupid but i take the goal kicks also because i can clear the ball the furthest on my team and with the best accuracy. (easily over half with both feet and aim) i developped this skill by going to a mini field everydayafter work or school for about an hour or more with a friend that was as into soccer as myself. we stood in each net and kicked it back and forth down the field to each other trying to score or at least hit the net at times haha but you will get better as you go. id also suggest alterante kicking when you start. i trained a friend this way and he doesnt have a bad foot. i just worked on my bad foot for a whole summer and can now kick it better with my so called bad foot. and juggling with your feet will help you get a good feal for your sweet spot. AND DON"T JUST TRY AND KILL THE BALL!!!!! practice your aim first. dont try and do it all at once it doesnt work that way.
