Ok, I was getting bored and a bit ancy having to navigate between 8-9 threads just to find out who was where and if there was anything new...

    What we know:

    gone
    ------
    Cannon
    Barrett
    Graziani
    Conrad-(KC)

    possibly gone
    --------------
Mulrooney-(now turned down loan from RV)
    Ekelund

    Newbies
    ---------
    Waibel - (waiver draft)
    Dunivant - DL
    Alvarez - M/FLC
    Mullan - M/FRC
    Levesque - F
    Saunders - GK
    Walker - DR (?)
    Maliza - MR
    Sanfilippo - MRLC (?)

Considering this is all we know, does anyone know who we may be bringing in, are there any guys from the waiver draft that might look good and fit under the cap?

Is there anything we know that FY or DK might have up their sleeves they saw on their scouting trips and may look to bring in?

from what I can tell, FY keeps his cards pretty close to his chest.

I haven't heard a word about any new additions except for his statement that they will most likely be adding another keeper (Senor Walker perhaps?), and his post-draft statement that they were still looking to fill some positions through other means. Kinda vague. Certainly haven't heard any well-known-English-1st-Division-player-to-SJ rumours.

    Fair enough.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this thread! I put one up like this on QuakeMagic and just never got around to it here! It's good to have all the info in one thread. Thanks for putting it all together.

Will you be receiving compensation for Graz, Barrett, and Cannon? Perhaps an allocation?

Alvarez is supposed to be a hot prospect for the future...I can't remember where I read an article about the kid from one of his coaches in the Texas area...

If you can ask one of our all seeing all knowing compatriots to deliver a link to the article in like the dallas star or whatever.

Because all three were (I believe) out of contract I don't think that we will, unless Garber softens his heart and gives us a 'you suck' allocation!

I'd say he's more of a decent young player....

Waibel - (waiver draft)= Journeyman player. FY has a history putting together pretty decent teams with journeyman players. In 2001 championship year, Lagos and Ibsen had pretty key roles and these were guys you probably would have labeled 'worthless TB and LA rejects'.

Dunivant - DL=unknown as to immediate impact. True, unlikely to step in be ready to become an MLS starter overnight. Maybe by mid-season or end of year is about the best we can hope. Unless of course FY has no other options and throws him into the fire right away.

Alvarez - M/FLC= another Luchi? Different category. Alvarez is roster exempt and shouldn't be expected to contribute much for several years. If he does this year, it's all gravy.

Mullan - M/FRC=worthless LA reject See Waibel... At least this guy we know can hold his own at the MLS level. Most of the other new players we have no idea.

Levesque - F= out six months. Which means he's not going to contribute this year (see Dunivant).

Saunders - GK=unknown. Never seen him play.

Walker - DR (?)=unknown. Not unknown to me since I've watched him in many SCU games over the past few years. Jamil is a speedy athlete. Whether he has enough skill and soccer sense to make it at MLS level is highly suspect. I'd say Corey Woolfolk would be a better choice of an equivalent type player if he's still available - I know he was at the mini-camp a couple weeks ago.

Maliza - MR=who? I've watched him in a few Stanford games. Definately an athlete, but I think he may be capable of surprising people and stepping up to MLS level. Very high work rate and seems to have a decent understanding of the game. I'd say his best chance is to sign a development contract. He probably won't make a full roster spot.

Sanfilippo - MRLC (?)=? Never seen him play.

Maybe you all already know about this site, but MatchNight.com has a page with some guy's scouting reports on the draft picks. The scouting reports looked kind of thin to me, but each player's page did have a nice collection of awards they had won, height, weight, hometown, links to sites of teams they had played for, etc.

I read a really good article in the Houston Chronicle about Alvarez before the draft, which is one of the reasons I am excited about him ...IF he is willing to learn, be patient and live up to his potential...that was the problem with Carrieri and Gonzales, they were not prepared to wait. Unfortunatly the article is no longer available.

Is this the article you (and rcoull) are referring to (from the Houston Chronicle): http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/soc/1732136

Alvarez will compete one spot up for U-20 team in Portugal. So he is a real deal. How many player who played up his age? Only one before, Convey.

I wasn't paying attention, did Alvarez lead the U-20s in scoring last year or the U-17s? If it was the U-17s, please direct the link where it says that hes competing for a U-20 spot.

    Damn, my secret's out! :D

Hey, even Jerzy Engel recommended that game for anyone who want to learn tactics and the genereal idea of what being a manager is like....

now only if we could get some MLS coaches to play and help them improve our league we could step right in!

I believe that Alvarez played for the U18 team. They compete in the Pan-American Games or something like that.

Anyway, there's an article on Top Drawer Soccer that says that Alvarez is being called into a U20 camp in Portugal in early March in advance of the U20 Worlds which begin March 25th.

It would seem unlikely, however, that he would earn a spot as a starting forward. More likely he would be a reserve forward (or midfielder) behind Eddie Johnson and Santino Quaranta.

Still...if he's good enough to play up a level (even as a reserve) and he's OURS....Woo Hoo! ***that is, assuming he ever actually gets here to play with our team.***

I wanted to bump this thread up cuz so much has happened recently.

If someone would be so kind as to post an update on what's happened since we last updated this thread, I'd be very grateful. I'd do it, but I'm late for work and I have class tonight.
