Remember: it’s easier to replace one (great) player than it is to replace 7-8 (crappy) players!

    :D

If he wanted to be so great, he wouldn’t have sucked with different coaches and different teammates. Ultimately, if he were a great player, nothing else would matter as it would be readily apparent. The fact that it isn’t is evidence enough.

"Based on that goal, give that man a 3 year extension and a raise." - what Heitz is thinking about Shaqiri right now

Exactly! Just like when Schweinsteiger played center back for us.

    Oh, wait...

The way to get goals out of him is to direct the OTHER team to pass the ball to him instead!

Pete (just realized the Fire have been using him wrong.all these years)

Múltiple coaches? lol, there was Ezra with Frank under him “showing him the ropes”, and Frank. I wouldn’t call consistently being our best player sucking, but everyone is an expert on the internet. I’m wasn’t saying he’s blameless with my snarky little comment, just that he very clearly is a great player and his relative lack of success with us is maybe just a little bit deeper than the “hurr durr he walk on defense he bad player” idiocy that a lot of the social media experts think is solely responsible for the Fire’s poor play during his tenure.

If he can still be this good at this level, maybe, just maybe, the team sucking isn’t solely because he makes $8m and walks on defense.

It's motivation, not skill, position, coaches, tactics or teammates. Shaqiri is like Lothar Matthaus. Good (great?) player who came here and thought he could half-ass it and dominate. Stay in Europe Shaq--we'll all be better off.

A little harsh but probably a contributing factor.

It will be interesting to know if this is, in fact, the case.

Frankly, I doubt it, but I do think it is a possibility.

I personally have zero beefs with Shaqiri. I always wanted him to work out here but it hasn't quite been what everyone had hoped HOWEVER...his numbers are more less what they've always been at other clubs he's played at. Additionally having Jairo Torres be a fellow designated player who had zero goals and zero assists in two whole seasons where he was injured for long spells did not help the Fire. In fact it hurt way more than Shaqiri not running ever did. Also Giminez while serviceable as an MLS midfielder who is good to have in the rotation has showed spells of good form but not the kind of diligent workmanship that is a game changer. I said before the Euros started I hoped Shaqiri has a GREAT tournament and goals galore because it makes it that much easier for the Fire to move him and get something of value to reshape the squad. I just have zero confidence in Heitz and Pelzer based upon their track record to date to do anything positive to replace him. There have been more misses than hits however the last window was the best I've seen in their tenure. Can they do it again? Seems like Heitz always finds a reason to do not much in the summer.

That article was very good, and well balanced in assigning responsibilities.

I know Shaqiri is a touchy subject, but can we all agree that listening to an announcer call him "Chicago's Pocket Rocket" is kinda funny?

    Where'd the Shaqiri banter go?

Thought he was being saved for the Germany match...and there'd be banter.

Is he ok, medically clear, to play?

Right, but the commentary for not playing the fist game, and being subbed after 60min in the second, was 'saving him for Germany'...he didn't play.
Made me wonder if he picked up a ding, or something.

I am a little confused. Is it your recommendation that Shaqiri only play 60 min every 3 games? I must have heard that wrong. But if salary was reduced commensurately,
    I would consider that.
