Glad to see a place that will actually show a game Unfortunately, with the change of times, i will not be able to make it, as i start work at 12AM on Wed...BTW, is there any place in Northern New Jersey that is showing it?...Might be able to watch whole game, provided there's is no golden goal over time (is there? or straight to PKs?)...Anyway, any info is appreciated.....
I'll be there. I have to stop off first, but I'll try to get there about 7 or so. So are we bringing weapons in case we have to fight our way out when we win????
I'm in. I'm going to aim at getting there at 7:30. Also, I'll call tonight to verify they are showing the game, just so you all don't jump on me for being an assbag and sending you to the wrong joint if they are only show the first game for some reason.
So, if you call El Abuelo Gozon (718-424-2724), they have a taped message in Spanish that mentions "Estado Unidos" twice, but I have no idea what they are saying and no one is picking up. Anyone able to help out with this one? 'Tico? Can someone just listen to the message & translate? I'm pretty sure they will have the game, but just in case they don't it would be good to check. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure they will have the game -- the guy I talked to said that they would have all the pre-olimpico games.
I'm pretty sure they will too, I just wish I could bust some of my jcpenney level spanish on a guy to confirm it for me. They did mention showing the Tuesday night games on Saturday when I was there, but seeing as this is the same city whose # 1 soccer bar didn't show the MLS cup final, you can never be too careful when it comes to US Soccer on the tube.
If El Abuelo Gozon isn't showing game just walk east a few blocks down Roosevelt. There will be at least a half dozen bars between 79th and 90th showing these games. A place worth checking out is the Cafe Espana Sports Bar on 81 and Roosevelt. No hockey light and horn, however they do boast beautiful and flirty, lingerie clad Colombianas behind the bar... definitely a good place for a pre or post-game drink at least.
To hell with lingerie. To hell with scantily-clad Colombianas. This is business. Strictly business. Although i am not a big fan of the Jackson Heights area.
So we have 13 right now : (nobody better punk out.) stinky cossack PSU (try to bring Ms. Clarkson if possible) ChrisE RedCard Jamison Maverick Paul Nasta metrotico dark knight (?) Cosmos kramer sjjn TAF Metrotard BTW - the conjunction of the 7, e, f, g, r, v is at 74th street/Broadway/Roosevelt Ave. Do we get off there and walk?
Closest Train Stop: 7 Train to 82nd Street. Fastest Train: E/F to roosevelt ave (only the 4th stop in queens or so). If you walk to the Roosevelt Ave exit, you are on 74/75th, and you can walk the 5/6 blocks from there. 7 is much closer (bar is betw. 79th and 80th), but it makes a ton more stops in Queens. In the words of Black Sheep, the choice is yours.
7 express is fast. Take it to Junction Blvd. and then back (toward city) two stops to 82nd Street. http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm
I called El Abuelo Gozon, and they said the game was on for 9 PM...I asked about the cover and she said it was 5 bucks...then added something else which I didn't understand. Go Basic level spanish... Does anyone know of a bar in hoboken/weehawken/union city showing the game? I've got a couple leads but I can't find out for sure. Has anyone heard of these bars? El Faraon, Bamboleo, Caballeros de Colon. Supposedly they're showing the games but I have no idea where they are. Thanks if anyone can help. Queens is too far for me on a weeknight...
Somebody is saying that Nevada's is showing the game? I find this a little hard to believe though. edit : Saw it on the youth boards
It's now cossack +2 It's awesome to just write the subject: "Mex vs. USA" and all my friends come outta the woodwork. The conversion is happening folks.
