And this time, its gonna happen whether people like it or not. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/a-league/new-sydney-aleague-team-to-be-announced-20120404-1wbhz.html
I don't see how it couldn't be a disaster. The team isn't going to have an owner. Who is going to cover the team's losses?
It will likely be a disaster. This is something that really, really needs to be done right. It won't be in 6 months. Any bet by the time the next season starts most people in the west won't know a west Sydney A-league team exists.
From the 2pm announcement: more details to come. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1100263/Western-Sydney-A-League-team-unveiled
Why, FFA will, despite pulling the plug on NQFFC and saying they wouldn't financially support clubs any more. But regardless, I think they can knock together a team that will pull Heart-size numbers and may even find an owner after a year or two. It just won't be a good look after NQF, GCU and turning down Canberra for raising 'only' $2 million.
Its all about the tv deal- and they should more than make up for any spending on this venture initially, with the $ cha ching $ that should be coming in.
lol at unicorns, this cud work out good, cause of the strong football ties out there, they will definitely need an owner to step in soon but and help out 2 give the club stability, I think they shud go with royal blue shirt and white shorts like everton, just simple solid design and emblem, no gimmicks, and call themselves the West Sydney Rangers
Please don't tell me they will call it GWS. The name is horrible and it's amazing the AFL used it. A Western Sydney team is such a no brainer that it's suprising the A-league had teams in Gosford and Townsville before it. Also has a few good stadiums of a decent size avaliable.
Yup.. It makes them look silly to roundfile NQF and call community ownership a failure, then turn around a year later and say they are starting up a new club with that model.
True, but the sense of "community" also differs in big cities and small towns. And a small but locally proud town can deliver massively -- see Green Bay for example. Furries deserved at least a chance.
That's why i'm a bit shitty. we are only just starting to get our house in order in terms of crowds, and now we are certain to loose at least 3-4k out of our supporter base.
Unlikely. That only happened in the past because clubs were directly affiliated with particular countries, ie: Sydney Croatia.
