Thanks for gettin' all the letters right... For starters, here are the essentials: WHAT IS A TORRENT? Most of your answers are in the WIKI page. Here's another good FAQ. WHICH CLIENT SHOULD I USE? There are many of them out there, but I recommend the latest version of μTorrent (WIN only) or Azureus. If you want to use something else, that's fine, but some clients don't work as well, and some are banned on many trackers. WHERE SHOULD I GO FOR SOCCER TORRENTS? Most of the torrents we referrence here will be from HPI or mininova. There are other places to get other games, and if you ask, you'll probably get an answer...but this is the "Official U.S. Soccer web torrents thread", so those are the main two. HOW DO I WATCH THE GAMES I DOWNLOAD? Most of the games will be uploaded as either full DVD (ISO/VIDEO_TS) or as smaller re-encoded media files (avi/mp4/etc). There are tutorials galore throughout the previous threads on how to play or burn each type. There's also Google... If you don't want to have to worry about it, and you just want to watch the damn game...use the best free program on the nets...VLC It'll play them all. WHERE ARE THE FIRST 5 "OFFICIAL" THREADS? PART 1 PART 2 PART 3 PART 4 PART 5 IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW? Probably. No FAQ can answer everything, otherwise it'd be called an "AQA" (All Questions Answered ). So, I've kept it brief. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask. Most of the people that have participated in this thread in the past already know most of the answers, and they're pretty friendly and helpful. WHAT IF I HAVE A REQUEST? Well, first off...every upcoming USMNT will be capped (a torrent will get made), so there's no need to ask. Almost all youth games that are televised will be capped as well. Many (sometimes most) MLS games will be capped as well. There's a seperate thread for that in the MLS forum, but it's virtually defunct. If you have a request of a past game that isn't already on HPI, then you can ask here, and chances that your request will be filled, if someone has it. I would urge anyone to please use the FORUMS at HPI. There's a forum specifically for requests there. And, yes...you have to register at HPI to download torrents from there. It's free...there's no evil intent...but that's where most of these games will be posted. If you have questions about HPI, please ask them there and not here. ~YiS~
I'm still having trouble with recent US-Sweden friendly. It saying there is a problem with the file and I keep redownloading it.
Cool, glad to see another thread of this, these are wonderful, and i thank you Saeyddthe and Dsp, also the others who put them up, thanks!
What is "it"? Your bt client? The website? Whatever you're trying to play it on? And what problem does "it" say you have? Specifically...
I may be jumping the gun and presuming to know things, but in my experience when I my sw crashes and I reboot, it checks all the files and takes a while before it starts kicking in again. Could be that is your issue. On the other hand, I don't know that much, so .... However I would strongly encourage you to be more explicit in describing your issue, as I have found in my own experience that when I ask someone here with explicit detail, I get very helpful answers. For example, I might say "I am using BitTorrent version xxx and when I was trying to download four porn movies, three soccer games, two episodes of Lost and a partridge in a pear tree, I got an error message that said "Che Boludo, you can't seed quickly if you are trying to download all these files. Try doing it one at a time and get your seed ratio up!!!" What does that mean?" And then someone would very nicely tell me to stop trying to download 10 files at the same time, what a seed ratio is, and why it is important. I figure after the very helpful FAQ was posted, I would offer some advice on how to ask questions effectively to get a quick help response....
I'm not trying to be an ass...honestly. But, like DCU very rightly pointed out (and thank you btw...we do try very hard to help. )... The more detail you can give, the more likely we can sort it out for you. I don't need to know what you had for breakfast or what your favorite color is...but if you could answer the following, I think we can help you... 1~ What client are you using? (I see now that you're using uTorrent) 2~ Did your client get to "100%" when you downloaded the torrent? 3~ Did the error occur in your client, or in a player that you tried to open the mp4 files in? 4~ If so, what player did you try to use? 5~ What exactly did the error message say? (If you can quote it exactly, that makes it easier to identify and fix.) 6~ Is there any other thing that happened that you think might be related? Even possibly? (people need to trust their own intuition more...it's your computer, you are probably more used to it's quirks than we are.) If I had to guess, based solely on the info you've given, I'd say that you correctly downloaded the torrent...(since you've downloaded from the tracker before, I can safely guess that you know the difference)...but that there was a "bad chunk" in there somewhere, and you don't have your client set to "check pieces at completion" (or the equivalent in uTorrent)... Also, If I knew what media player you tried to open it with, and exactly what it said, that'd help a lot. (If it's just a codec message, I'm going to smack you. ) First thing you should do is try to open it with VLC...if it plays, but freezes at some point, or if seeking doesn't work correctly, or something else is weird about it, it's probably just a small piece of the downloaded file that's bad... You should then open the torrent back up in your client and "force re-check" the pieces (or whatever uTorrent command does the same thing, someone who uses uTorrent can help you there)... If it catches an error, it'll delete the bad piece (leaving the rest of the file), and start redownloading only that piece. If you turn that setting on in your preferences, it might take an extra minute or so every time you finish a torrent... But it'll save you all the time of re-downloading the whole damn torrent when just one bloody piece goes bad. Then again, I could be wrong, and your problem has nothing to do with that... Like I said, I'm just guessing.
Sorry I'm being so unclear, I deleted it and am downloading it again so I don't remember exactly what the message was. Thanks for all the help up to this point, I'm terrible with computers. When it gets done, I'll try what you've suggested and come back if I need help still.
Oh, and since this is the first page, and even though I already said that all USMNT games will be "capped"...the US-Mexico game will be uploaded on HPI tomorrow night. Since someone else is off on holidays...I'll be doing both versions (in SD), unless someone offers to do one of them, or in HD. For the smaller file, I plan on doing just the full english TV broadcast in h264...should be out about 4 hours after the broadcast ends. For the DVD, I hope to include some extras, without disrupting the quality too much, so it'll take a bit longer than usual, since I'll be recording at a higher bitrate, and encoding will be required. If someone ends up wanting to do the smaller version, or can do an HD version, I might even go so far as to include the spanish-language audio in the DVD, and possibly even some extra stuff off a stream or two. ~YiS~
Many thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to people returning to HPI. It has been a little slow since the crash and the completion of the MLS season.
I went crazy looking for this thread - a bump for the others who won't be able to watch the game live.
I am sure there are going to be a few smaller versions out there (English + Spanish) on Maxxed right after the game. On the other hand, I don't know if anyone is going to do the HD version besides yourself. I think you should just concentrate on the HD version.
Thank you Saeyddthe, as always! I only hope the game will posted asap (whatever size) cause I hate going thru the day fasting from my sports pages trying to keep the game fresh for me. Being overseas and in a different time zone sucks sometimes!
Who said I was doing an HD version? I don't have ESPN2HD...other people do. I'm just doing a high-Quality h264 version...in SD.
Sorry about the wait...(sometimes a guy's just gotta sleep though, you know?) Anyway, it's up at HPI now.
Alright, I've finished downloading the US-Sweden match and it's currently seeding. The ETA is jumping between 2days and 4 weeks. What's this all about? (uTorrent1.7.7)
While downloading the ETA estimates how long it will take for you to download. While uploading it gives you an estimate of how long you have to seed to get a 1:1 ratio. The ETA will change depending on your download/upload speeds. After you achieve a ratio of 1:1 the eta will disappear. You're a good unloader as long as you can keep around or above a 1:1
