Monty and 2 others at -3. Els still at -1. Tiger eagles his 15th hole (#6) to get to -1.

Not a lot of birdie holes out there for anyone so far.

    Tale of two Seniors.

Watson on fire and Irwin withdrawing due to back pain.

    Watson shoots a 65.

    Wow.

Watson broke out the old PING PAL? Jesus.

It's a great story, though. His longtime caddie, Bruce Edwards, was diagnosed with ALS in January. IIRC, he also caddied for Greg Norman for a while.

Though never a fan (Jack!), here's to Watson winning this week!

Hunter Mahan had a similar start. IIRC, he was -3 thru 5, then got a snowman (quad) on 6! Ouch!

The way Tom putts I don't expect him to hang on the whole weekend but it makes today fun. Tiger and Tom in the last group Sunday would be a trip!!

I think this US Open is wide open. Tiger has not played all that well of late and seems to lack consistency in his game. What a great story Tom Watson would be.

Jim Furyk with a 66 to get to -7
Nick Price with a 65 to get to -4
Woody Austin with a 64 to get to -2
Watson +2 to end at +3

None of the other players can be very happy to see Mr Woods shoot -3 on the front nine and jump up the leaderboard. Let's see if he can hold it together on the back nine and get in the final group for tomorrow.

The sliced second shot that Tigger hit into the par five from about 247 was just awesome.

    It was sick.

A 3-wood from the intermediate rough with a 40-50 yard slice (according to Johnny Miller).

Tiger is playing like a mere hacker. His game plan this week hasn't been good.

I do believe this one is Jim Furyk's to lose at the moment.

    Jimbo does it.

Congrats to him. Brutal day for most of the other players today.

SportsCenter did a little story on Bruce Edwards tonight. It was such a sad story, but you can't even feel bad for him because of the spirit that Edwards was in. The whole interview he was just smiling. I'm not a big golf fan by any means but even I got a little choked up.
