Just a heads up for this Thursdays game against the scum. The 14th Street Bridge repairs are under way, so all you Va drivers better plan accordingly. It promises to be a freeking nightmare.

They will be working on this bridge for two years!!!

I'm leaving work early enough from Belvoir to take a chance on the parallel HOV side that is open in the afternoon. I'll know then about future routes.

    See y'all around 3:30

A way to keep up with the 14th street bridge alterations:

    http://www.14streetbridgeconstruction.com/

The traffic direction arrows AFTER the lane blockages on Phase 2, 3, and 4 on this site look pretty scary

Well, I'm coming from PAX NAS way out in MD this week so that'll cure some of that.

In the future, as a NoVA guy, I'm gonna have to think about 66-->Constitution-->9th st. as an alt route.

Not to rain on your parades, but in my experience Constitution always sucks. Maybe it will seem to suck less than the New 14th Street Clusterfsck though.

On a good day with NO bridge repair going across the 14th St. Bridge is enough to make you eat a Glock.

The work is going to go on for at least the next two years. Saturday traffic should be alot less congested than weekday rushour traffic. Also keep an eye out to see if the HOV lanes going Northbound are open. If they are, jump on them. It'll be a breeze...

but you cant go that way after 330 during the week since it uses part of rock creek parkway off of constitution ave.

I have found over the past two years of coming up I-95 from the south on weekday afternoons and Saturdays, the HOV lanes (left exit) just before the bridge are open. However, most regular travlers will use them too. The people who can't get to the HOV are those coming off of Rt 110 from Rosslyn and the GW Parkway. If the HOV sucks, I'll probably take Beltway across Woodrow Wilson and come in from MD side. Least going home won't change.

The lane closings will be up 24/7 during each phase of the work.

You should be going the opposite direction of most of the traffic for the majority of the drive.

And just be glad your directions don't look like this:

    I-85 N/US-15 N/US-70 E via the ramp to Henderson
Continue to follow I-85 N Entering Virginia 126 mi
    6. Take the exit onto I-95 N toward Richmond 119 mi
    7. Continue on I-395 N Entering District of Columbia 11.7 mi
    8. Continue on SW Fwy 0.9 mi
    9. Take the exit toward 6th St SE 0.2 mi
    10. Turn left at 5th St SE 240 ft
    11. Continue on 6th St SE 0.2 mi
    12. Turn right at E St SE 0.2 mi
    13. Turn left at 8th St SE 0.3 mi
    14. Turn right at Independence Ave SE 1.0 mi
    15. Turn left at 19th St SE 0.1 mi
    16. Turn right at E Capitol St NE 233 ft
