I don't really mind having Kisel back, so long as he's not costing us too much. Hopefully we'll still be chasing David Williams in the off season. Tie up Topor-Stanley and maybe a DM to replace Musialik and I think we'd have a pretty decent team.

Sydney FC never do, they just chase players that will be good for next year, and he will be.

It's not like there aren't players available who can both play well next season (can't guarantee Kisel will do that) and secure at least something long-term. Sydney FC are become the East Coast's Perth Glory.

Sydney doesnt plan for the future, its all about short term fixes, the team is a true reflection of its city.

I know I mentioned that signing Kisel is not really planning for the future, but really, since the A-League has a salary cap & is a selling league, can you really plan for the future? All of the younger players after a good season or two either pop off to another A-League club for more money, or head overseas, for ah, more money.

Maybe you can only plan one or two seasons ahead, and that signing short term solutions is the only way forward?

Sydney FC will play two friendly matches against New South Wales Premier League opponents in the lead up to and during its 2011 AFC Champions League campaign.

Sydney FC will play Sydney United on Wednesday 23 February at Edensor Park (7:30pm kick-off) in the lead up to their first match of the AFC Champions League campaign which is on Wednesday 2 March against Korea’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The Sky Blues will then play APIA Leichardt at Lambert Park on Wednesday 9 March (7:30pm kick-off) – a week before their second AFC Champions League match which is against Japan’s Kashima Antlers at the Kashima Soccer Stadium in Kashima.

Great. Brosque leaves and the other one is constantly injured.

Sydney FC striker Mark Bridge has been ruled out of Wednesday night's A-League clash with Wellington Phoenix as his battle to be fit for next month's AFC Champions League continues.

Bridge has been sidelined since late December but was expected to take his place against Phoenix at the Sydney Football Stadium but was ruled out on Tuesday after complaining of a groin problem.

Topor-Stanley's just signed a new two-year deal with the Jets. Usucar just signed a new two-year deal with Adelaide. Galekovic is currently on a three year deal, while McKay's signed a new three year deal with the Roar. Petratos has re-signed with you guys for another two years. Cassio signed a contract extension for a further two years (and has already been here for four).

That's hardly being unable to plan for the future, is it? We're purely making excuses and not actually trying to be ambitious. If we want the league to grow and succeed, we need to actually make that happen, not just sit around and wait for that elusive moment where it all flourishes.

F**k that. In the games he's played he's looked like one of our best defenders. His passing from the back would suit BR great, but damn! Why can't we hold onto anyone half decent? Management? Money?

Sydney FC have suffered a major injury blow on the eve of their 2011 AFC Champions League campaign with rising star Dimitri Petratos ruled out for six weeks with ankle ligament damage.

The 18-year-old young gun suffered the injury when being challenged for the ball in the first half of Sydney FC’s 1-1 draw against the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium last Sunday and was forced to leave the pitch in the 44th minute.

In the case of Jurman it was just bloody-mindedness, Vitja and crew kept him off the bench for Foxe, Keller and Ryall and only turned to him after the season had vanished; then we let his contract run down until it was too late. Plain stupid. Watch him and Smith maul us next year.

So who do you want?

Sydney FC is set to bring in the big-name reinforcements for its AFC Champions League campaign as soon as this week.

Coach Vitezslav Lavicka said the club was waiting for permission from Football Federation Australia as to when it could start adding players - most likely from A-League clubs whose seasons also finished at the weekend.

"I have identified some names we would like to come and play for us in the ACL, and we need to do it very quickly," Lavicka said.

"I would like to bring them as soon as possible to settle and train together with the team hopefully."

When they were no longer a mathematical chance of qualifying for the A-League finals, the club switched their attention to getting the squad prepared for the Asian adventure, with coach Vitezslav Lavicka having the luxury of using his past two regular games, against Wellington and Melbourne Heart, as opportunities to give out-of-favour and fringe players much-needed game time.

One of those players who found himself on the wrong side of the ledger was Shannon Cole, whom Lavicka brought back into the team for the final two matches after being one of those frozen out following a mid-season shake-up.

However, Cole seized the opportunity to remind the coaching staff of his talent, putting in two strong performances at right-back, which he hopes will be enough to keep his spot for the ACL journey.

I doubt any 'big names' from the top 6 will be keen for a transfer right now. So that leaves Heart, Glory, Fury and Jets 'big names'. David Williams? Beauchy?

After the finals we've got ACL games and it's a loooooong offseason so it's actually not that unlikely IMO.

Word is we're talking to Heffernan about a stint (though he'd have to get over Talay breaking his leg on the night he was due to be best man at his brother(?)'s wedding) though I don't see the point in having him.

AFTER two years of trying to bring David Williams to the Harbour City, Sydney FC have finally landed their man after he yesterday agreed to join the club for their Asian Champions League campaign.

For the moment, the deal involves Williams joining the Sky Blues on loan from North Queensland for six months, although it could become permanent if the financially embattled Fury are dropped from the competition before next season.

Williams isn't the only big name on the cards to join the Sky Blues: fringe Socceroos Paul Reid and Dean Heffernan could also link with Vitezslav Lavicka's team in what could provide the catalyst for a much-improved showing in the ACL after a disappointing A-League season.

The Reid drama train's started.

FURIOUS Adelaide United midfielder Paul Reid has hit back at claims he walked out on the club ahead of tonight's sudden-death final against Wellington Phoenix, saying the blame lies squarely with the club's management.

Reid is negotiating to join Sydney FC for their Asian Champions League campaign, a move that has so far been blocked by the Reds who believe the 31-year-old is failing to uphold his contract, which expires next month.

Reid's representative emailed a statement yesterday affirming that he had effectively been frozen out by the club for the sole reason that he sought financial security next season.

"My professionalism has never been questioned and I am sure that if you speak to any of my teammates, past or present, that they would agree,'' he said.

The former Socceroo has made it clear he wants to be registered for Sydney FC's Asian Champions League campaign, which would mean the paperwork for the deal would have to be cleared by next Monday, leaving tonight as his farewell match. Instead he will not play, with the club confirming his place will be taken by Pantelis.

''I wish the boys all the best on Friday, and hope that they can go on and win the flag, with or without me," he said.
