Except he's wrong. Paraguay had more chances against Sweden than they did against England.

What are the chance that SGE is actually going out to KO the Swedes? Yeah, right, not in a million years, he will be looking for a draw out of this one (though something tells me that Rooney may have something to say about this out on the pitch, bye bye Sweden, and Beenhakker will knock out Germany on penalties, you heard it here first)

if the yellow cards are "vanished" after the group stage matches, what possible difference would it make if the lads pick up second yellow cards in the last of the group stage matches?

    or did i misunderstand you???

    - If you have only one yellow after the 3rd game, it does not count for the group stage
    - If you get your 2nd yellow in the 3rd game (or a red), you will be suspended for the round of 16 game.

Both sides will be going for it because no-one wants to face Germany in the next round of 16. Germany will thrash whoever they play in the next round.

Sweden rely too much on ageing players. England will never beat established teams as long as they play Lampard in the same midfield with Gerrard.

    Those are my hopes aswell.

As for starting line-ups and such, I think this is where we take advantage and try a proper team with all the natural positions.

Lennon and Carrick, Plus Sven should give Walcott a run up front.

Great great, I predict 5-0 to England. Beckham score 4 goals and Lampard 1.;)

Sweden haven't shown much so far but I reckon they're a lot better than the two results suggest. I think they'll beat Germany or Ecuador if they make the second round and are even good enough to make the seni final if luck doesn't outdo them. To me they don't look like they believe enough yet and I fear they may burn out too early in effort to show what they can do before it really matters. It's unfortunate that Sweden must beat England to be sure of qualification. Perhaps they were unlucky to play T&T in their first match and not be able to prepare like England did.
I hope they hold us to a draw, Paraguay beat T&T and they go through.

That's not really fair. Iv'e seen all games. SWE games has been by far the best out of the other games. Lets see if England can offer some flair later on in the world cup.

Although im not english i must admit their squad if they perform look very decent and do play attractive football. Its only a matter of time these so called favourates start to play football of high quality. Teams like Italy, England, Holland, Brazil and Portugal. I feel its too late for the French though

I wish for Sweden to get through. T&T would give more chance to them Germans.

Regardless of the outcome Sweden is guaranteed to play much better than what they've shown so far... I think they are the kind of a team that thrives as underdogs and doesn't know what to do when considered a favourite.

Why do I have the feeling that Sven will put all the subs on to start. He's happy just getting into the next round.
He doesn't care whether we play Ecuador or Germany, it'll be the same crappy tactics, except he'll pull Gerrard out if he ever gets close enough to the goal to attempt another shot......Ppffft

    • Keeps dumping the ball

In terms of this match I believe it will be a draw not because they're aiming for it...but because of their history. They haven't beat each other in 38 years. England will take advantage of the midfield but Swedish defense will keep the play outside of hazardous shooting range (unless Beckham gets the ball and as much as I hate his overrated character, he does a damn good job of kicking from far out). However I believe Sweden will lose IF THEY CONTINUE TO DUMP THE BALL INTO THE GOAL AREA!!! Haven't they realized that after doing it over and over again in the past two matches?! Apart from Zlatan Ibrahimovic we have no tall players up front to win those headers....and seeing as he's not going to be making the match, why attempt these worthless plays?

England will catch the Swedes with their pants down if they do this. Some midfielder with a nice kick (Alexandersson) will massively boot the ball to Larsson or Allback which they can't reach because the English are taller than them. The English will then counter and easily push through the midfield because its virtually empty there most of the time.

Swedish magic comes from solid through-balls from Ljunberg or amazing dribbling from Wilhelmsson (he really is amazing!) and then Larsson or Allback finish them. Ocassionally it would be nice to see Edman make those increcibly long throw-in to our strikers ;)

I'm anticipating 0-0 or 1-1. But this is soccer, anything can happen.

i think the english players will be watching very closely the line on the ecuador v. deutschland match. if germany wins, and england finishes Group B on top, then england would play ecuador in the next round. as well as ecuador has played, i think most players would prefer playing that side to playing the germans, at home. i don't think that the three lions would tank the match, but i don't think they would play hard for the win if it meant playing germany.

and given that gerrard and lampard are on yellow cards, i think it would be a mistake to have them anywhere near the pitch. i cannot imagine going into a round of 16 match with either of those lads in jacket and tie.

if i'm SGE, i think i would consider who the match officials are and what the proclivity of the referee is as far as carding players is concerned.

interesting enough, he was the referee in the england v. northern ireland match on 7 Sept 2005, won by NI 1-nil. so he is a known quantity.

This is difficult situation. England are through to the rnd of 16 and it's a must win in Sweden's mind (too risky to draw).

There are some English players that will be unable to take it easy. Namely Rooney. He will start as though he was shot out of a cannon. The Swedes will need to push out and attack with all they have. This will be the perfect game for Owen. Roon will be there to link with Owen on the quick counter.

After 2 goals from ENG. Sven will introduce Walcott and Lennon. Both are eager and will press hard to impress Sven for a future spot. No let up for a desperate SWE. They will hear of TNT being ahead and push forward to no avail against the best back 4 in the Cup.

If Walcott and Lennon can produce then SWE are sunk.

The excitement will come in the dying minutes as SWE try to score a goal to try to go through to next round on goal difference.

Sorry, it gets worse for SWE. TNT will win. TNT are proud, full of confidence and have a great coach. PAR just don't care, they haven't yet. So, they won't start now. 2-1 TNT over PAR.

England finish first in grp B. Germany lose to ECU. Ballack gets a second yellow card after playing whole game, coz Klinsmann is terrified of losing and meeting ENG in next round. But, he will do so and without Ballack.

That's what will happen. Now, there is no need to watch it, so go to work. Sorry, if I spoiled it for you. :D

I don't think Sven's gona tinker too much with the lineup. We already know Rooney and Owen are starting, Hargreaves probably as well. Whether the Krauts win or lose, let's play for the 3 points!

I just hope the match is clean. Wouldn't want anyone to get any knocks going into the round of 16.

    Good luck to Sweden.

One positive note for Sweden... This time we will be playing in our real home kit (w/ blue shorts), not the weird all yellow.

Perhaps that will inspire the players a bit more... :D

England will be wearing their new red away kit for the first time this WC.
