Matchnight's Offical MLS Super Draft Order Hey and the Braintrust has already F'ed up without even making a pick. Seems Chacon was worth our #22 pick in the third round. You know the guy who hardly played and was released. Just another example of a bad trade by the Crew brain trust. Oh we got a #41 in the 5th round from DAL for Dunseth who damn near started for them every game after being traded. CHI has 10 picks, 4 in the top 20. They didn't have to give away their 1st round pick to NE for Nowark retiring, so basically NE made a trade for nothing. LA has 8 picks, 3 in the top 13. CLB has 8 picks, 3 in the top 16. SJ has 7 picks, 2 in top 10 KC 6 DAL 5, two top 10 NE 5 COL 4 Metros 4 DC 3...I wonder what the Head Pole In Charge will do with those?(edit for clerification, don't want anyone to get in a tussy)
I honestly think we didn't loose too much by giving up the 22nd pick. As for the #41 pick, I would still rather have Dunseth... Also, did anybody have any problems scrolling on Matchnight's draft page. I middle clicked the scroll wheel in order to zoom through the page and an error came up saying something to the order that the webpage is copyrighted. That's all well and good, but in the meantime, I have no quick scroll!

agreed hang. i wouldn't mind having Ned or Coach Dodo explain themselves about that. like that will happen.
P-40s announced for 2004 Project-40 Lands Top Prospects Not really a steller group when compaired to last year. Names that MLS didn't get: Abe Thompson F(Maryland) Knox Camerron F(UM), Ramon Nunez M(SMU), Danny Szetela M(U-17), Eric Vasquez M(CFU), CJ Klass D(UW), Drew Moor D(IU)
Re: Re: P-40s announced for 2004 Probably the same day that we got Dunseth back from Dallas. MLS is a joke. Can't even get an accurate list dated 1/8/04 out to the fans.
i think we should draft either cronin or baumstark with our first second round pick. hopefully one of them will be picked before us so that way our coaching staff won't be to blame for picking the wrong one.
No with the wealth at the GK position this year, the Crew can afford to wait till the 4th or 5th round to pick up a GK. With Baumstark added in with the College kids there is easily 6 or 7 GKs that could step in and play in MLS in the future. The Crew need to focus their 4 picks in the first 3 rounds on bigger needs then GK. IMO, they need to go for Marshall(D) with the first pick, then a holding mid, another forward, and an outside D or M. This is what a good draft would look like to me. #2 Chad Marshall D, #12 Jeremiah White F, #16 David Wagenfuhr D/M, #25 Josh Gros M. Now if West catches on with that Norwegian side, then a winger is important and could maybe look at Aldolfo Gregorio at the #12 spot if he lasts that long. Or lets say Clint Dempsey falls to the #12 spot I'd think of getting him here too. The other P-40s that could fall to the second round don't impress me that much.
that sounds like a nice strategy, but as of right now, we only have one keeper under contract (according to the SA list of salaries). I personally think Busch needs someone pushing his ass everyday for that starting position. I think that's why he played better in 02 than he did in 03. Presthus was still a threat to take back the job in 02. I think Baumstark could push Busch right away and if Busch doesn't step up, Clint could play. I'm not sure some of the others can do that.
I don't think Presthus had anything to do with how well Busch played or didn't play in 2002 and 2003. I think it can be more attributed to Clark and Dunseth playing well towards the end of 2002, then this year when Clark really started to show his age midseason, Dunseth was traded away for a coke and a smile, Akwari showed promise, but was then benched for a slow hack. Furthermore, I really don't have a problem with the way Busch has played either. I can't really think of too many times where he has cost us points, but I can think of many when he has kept the Crew in games they had no business being in. I really think Busch is the least of any problems the Crew have on the roster. I also don't know if Baumstark is any better then Ueltschey who is under contract with the Crew as a DP. (I just keep adding stuff don't I) Personally I think with the roster being limited to 18 players, your backup GK should be a DP or P-40. Basically because it opens one more space for a positon roster player and if your starter goes down there it's not like you can't find another GK in the US if you think the DP isn't up to it at that time. Just my little bias against GK I guess
We really were that desperate for players? To trade away a third round pick for APC?? Oh well, it's the third round, by which time most (if not all) of the impact players have already been picked up.
