Since it's technically summer (and the EPL has been decided) I'm starting up the fun transfer rumor thread again. Post the rumor no matter how ridiculous as long as you post a link also. Here's the first one: Brad Friedel http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/blackburn/story.jsp?story=402666 Actually says Arsenal has made tentative approaches when most just say Arsenal want him.
Here we go... Arsene supposedly keeping tabs on Roma pretty boy Cassano: http://www.tribalfootball.com/may/italnews4060503.html
Wait, so you're saying I can make up a rumor and, as long as I have it in writing somewhere on the web, I can post it? Wow, it's just like writing for the Sun!
Here's the boring out transfers we've already heard: Pires to Valencia Vieira to Real Madrid http://www.football365.com/All_News/Premiership_News/story_66533.shtml
Forgot to mention Damien Duff to the Gunners for 12 million. Fernandes is available for 2.2 from Southampton. If Pires and Vieira really did leave Id like to see Fernandes come in for that cheap.
and another link from Tribal Football has Pires in a row with Wenger and DB10 not being offered another year. http://www.tribalfootball.com/may/englisnews5060503.html
This tidbit from the morning's Fiver email. I have a hard time believing Pires would go for only 7m pounds. Arsenal are looking at rebuilding their defence with Turkish keeper Rustu Recber and, depending on who you listen to, either one of Chelsea's John Terry and William Gallas (they're not fussy) or both of PSV's Kevin Hofland and Auxerre's Philippe Mexes. All or some or none of the above could be funded by Robert Pires heading off to Valencia for GBP7m.
I believe the original poster was refering to the Friedal transfer rumor being legit. I wonder how much Carr will cost if he does walk across London to join us.
Re: Re: Official Summer Transfer Rumor Thread Try not to make rumors up. Of course if you're on e-mail lists you can't post a link, but everything else please try. That way it doesn't get too out of hand. And as always, feel free to discuss any of the rumor here also.
Easy, he meant the rumor. I know you stayed with the guy (which we still haven't gotten details about, oh Slippery One if you're reading this and you too Suckafree), so you're understandably quick to defend him. I bet you'll find that most people here are huge Friedel fans and would welcome him as a Gunner.
I'm glad that we are all in aggreance. My misunderstanding of context Dwinkler what details do you want to know about the trip? I'll be happy to tell you about anything.
OK, now I've got to ask, what have you been smoking? How about everything? How about, how the hell do you get to stay at Brad Friedel's house in the first place? And then everything after that?
I have had a feeling for some time that Arsenal may pick up an American defender on the cheap just to sell some shirts here in the States. That said, I'd be first in line to buy a Friedel Arsenal shirt.
I believe Souness said that Friedel is not available at any price. Not a guarantee of anything, but I never thought Friedel would go anywhere. I don't think Pires or Bergkamp will be leaving. Yes they aren't getting any younger, but their games aren't reliant on physical traits, as opposed to Overmars. Anyone with their vision, technical skills, and flair can play at a high level for a long time.
From what I read, Friedel not being available "at any price" means he's not available for less than 10 million GBP. While I don't think Arsene should blow two-thirds of his purchasing budget on Friedel, I think if they sell someone who would bring in 7 million or so (like Pires), it would allow Wenger the luxury of buying Friedel and still having enough leftover to strengthen the defense.
Although Arsenal needs a keeper, Wenger wants one on the cheap...certainly much cheaper than what Friedel is priced at. In fact, Wenger's purchases in the past have always been at an economical rate. I don't expect any different now. Defenders, goalkeepers, and keeping Pires, Viera, and Henry happy should be David Dien's agenda. (although i'm sure he is busy with getting the stadium deal carried through... that's partially why the money purse is running thin right now).
Getting Stam could be a reality now. I'm sure lazio will take what they can get for him. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=266487&cc=5901
Planetfootball amping up the Rustu rumour. Or, if you can believe his quote, Rustu himself is the one playing up the idea of a move to Arsenal. http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=145514&cpid=8&title=Recber+in+Gunners+hint
There will be some Sales and don't be surprised to see Freddie and Gio and Jeffersas the players sold in order to raise much needed funds.Pennant could be plyed on the right of Midfield and with Vieira,Parlour ,Gilberto,Edu and Bentley when he recovers from his broken leg we would have enough cover in the centre.Another possibility is to let Lauren go and promote Volz though Lauren could also be used on the right of Midfield as can Toure.I expect to see Kanu,Luzhny and hopefully Stepanovs let go as well as Warmuz.Bergkamp is being offered reduced terms will he accept them in order to play one more season at the top and Seaman will be asked to coach the keepers I would also keep him registered in case of emergency.I hope Rustu signs with Taylor as backup. My big hope is that we buy a decent centre half to play alonside Sol and also get a quality keeper I think our reserves and youth set up should provide the rest of the players we need. One thing for sure Arsene has some wheeling and dealing to do on a lot less money than Man Ure Liverpool or Newcastle.
Plus, Rustu would be a free signing as he's out of contract at the end of the season. The "article" also says we might be going after Basturk from Bayer.
