Do I really need to go and get my argument from the other thread? If MLS is in financial trouble (and it's not, generally, entertainment and sports are recession-proof), then selling it's biggest box office, media, and merchandising asset would be pretty foolhardy.

Besides, MLS pays just $400k of Beckham's salary. The rest of it is covered by LA, who had a $4million Profit in '07.

 

Is that a hint as to what beer will be served in the stadium? We could do worse as a shirt sponsor, I guess...

 

No it's an assumptive place holder based on a local brand. Rossetti does it a lot, and it's why you see Sons of Ben on ad boards. Trust me, we won't be buying ad space

Wow! The Bar Lounge looks amazing! Would they hold special viewing events on non Game days. Looks like a great place to get a bunch of your folks together for viewing parties or other events and generate additional revenue. They could probably rent it out for parties and corporate events etc.

The deal that your club signed with Panasonic is fantastic. Your ownership group is doing it right.

 

That would be a shame, especially since it is the fans like SOB that played key role in getting the thing built. It seems that the ownership group really gets it about connecting with the fans.

From an outsiders perspective, I see the Philly team as more of a fans team. I would think the owners would be more inclusive than the folks at Real Salt Fake.

 

From the looks of the rendering, I think that's exactly what it will be.

I'm generally a very patient person but the lack of stadium parts going into or coming out of the ground is starting to get me nuts. Seems more and more likely that the 2010 season will be starting somewhere other than Chester.

Has anyone been by the site lately? I tried to get down Sunday but ran out of time. Any news from contruction insiders?

 

I agree. This is getting rediculious.

 

mlsphilly2010.com has proposed the idea of a live stadium cam during construction to its "coming soon" secion. Not sure when soon is.

 

I'm as impatient and pessimistic as the next guy, but come on. The ground has been frozen for the last few weeks. I don't think anyone was seriously expecting any actual foundation work to happen until the weather warmed up a little bit, were they?

What we're waiting for at this point, now that the ground-clearing is mostly done, are for the first structural members to be placed in the ground, which I'm assuming will be secured by concrete footings. You can pour concrete in below-freezing temperatures, but it's expensive; you basically have to build a heated, insulated tent over the ground you're working in and whatever is sticking out of it, which in this case would probably require a lot of tents and a lot of space heaters; you may have to use different concrete mixes or even heat the concrete before pouring it. And if you screw it up, you have to jackhammer it all out and start all over with new materials.

I'm impatient, too, but with fourteen months to go, I understand that spending a huge amount of money and endangering your stadium's structural stability to gain a few weeks' head start doesn't make sense.

 

I was down there Saturday on my way to Phatso's...wife & kids are addicted to those donuts...no change that I could see.

I agree with chapka...let just give them a chance to get it going...I'd wager that by the time the name is announced, we'll be seeing some action on Seaport Drive. (at least I hope so!)

 

I agree with you on the foundation part, but don't they first have to drive piles into the ground before any 'concrete' work can begin? Keep in mind, the ground is only frozen on the surface. You'd figure they start the process by now.

 

Everyone, no need to worry. Nick said months ago that they wouldn't start "building" the stadium until March 2009 (external structure, metal/poles coming out of the ground, etc.). Everything is still going "as planned".
