I guess this is possible, but I view VCFC as a Galaxy developmental squad. I don't see him developing as a 27-year-old and can't see him being an on the field mentor to any of the "kids".
Reus on his first day at LA Galaxy: "It’s just surreal, I must say. Just driving to the training facility and training under palm trees - that’s something you only know from vacation. You’re training under palm trees. In the beginning, it definitely feels real because you also… pic.twitter.com/KPm2XUAETE— ari (@aritrabvb1909) October 15, 2024 Amazingly long twitter thread (this is somewhere in the middle) of Marco Reus stuff. Really really interesting stuff.
I have rethought this, I could see Jindaoui being a mentor to young players if he was a very smart player who's own career was limited by a lack of athletic ability and related physical limitations (e.g. speed, size, etc).
Who were you replying to on this? I made a comment in another thread agreeing that Reus has been less than stellar in his starts. I relooked at this match log and that is not correct. He had a very good game and a start against LAFC with 2 assists. In his other starts, St. Louis, Vancouver and Houston, 0 G, 0 A and only 1 shot. And his passing percentage dropped with each start. So to answer your question, this year, Reus, with the caveat that he needs to come off the bench against tired legs and minds. Next year, I really don't know.
It wasn't a reply to anyone in particular, just pulsing the crowd. But I agree, he's better off the bench
Which I posted before the game started. How come I and others can see this but Vanney can’t? Vanney also, for some bizarre reason, put in supplemental player Parente when we were holding on for dear life. With a minute left Parente got the ball and under zero pressure just booted it to Houston rather than finding a teammate to pass to. Neither Cerrillo nor Zavaleta would have made that mistake. Vanney used his personnel all wrong in this important game. And he should have been yelling at them to keep possession.
The MLSPA Fall Salary Guide was just released https://mlsplayers.org/resources/salary-guide Reus is on a $960,000 base salary and $1,216,667 guaranteed comp Hard to see Brugman coming back with a $1.4m guaranteed comp number. Garces at $238K guaranteed is a really good price if he is a starter
Marco Reus will receive about $174,000 — the pro-rated part of his $1.216 million salary from the @LAGalaxy this season, according to figures released by the @MLSPA I count the galaxy with 6 millionaires (Reus,Pec,Puig, Paintsil, Brugman and Fagundez)— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈🇵🇷 (@kbaxter11) October 24, 2024
Michael Stephens, our asst GM, leaves for Chicago to work under Berhalter. I don’t know how much credit he should get v Kuntz for our player acquisitions, but given that Kuntz is not a soccer guy, my guess is a guy like Stephens was important. Sources: Chicago Fire to name Mikey Stephens as head of recruitment. It's the Fire's first front office hire under Gregg Berhalter. Stephens joins from LA Galaxy, where he was assistant GM under Will Kuntz.Stephens played for Fire & LAG in his career. https://t.co/RtK6GRg9FO— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 26, 2024
Alex Ruiz calls Stephens’ departure a “massive loss” for the team A massive loss for the LA GalaxySince joining the club in 2022, he’s been key in scouting LA’s transfer targets. A lot of the Galaxy’s signings have been top notch because of Stephens. A smart executive that will likely have success back in Chicago. #LAGalaxy https://t.co/LqK66c04cO— Alex Ruiz (@AlxRuiz15) October 26, 2024
Sorry to lose our assistant GM - he seemed to be doing extremely well what with our player acquisitions and his promotion and all. Best wishes to him.
Interesting season long stats. G+A/90 min: Dejan 0.93 Pec 0.92 Reus 0.76 Puig 0.74 Paintsil 0.65 Berry 0.54 Fagundez 0.27 Delgado 0.18 Dejan, our most efficient scorer played ~1900 minutes, a low number for a healthy starter. By comparison Pec played ~2700 minutes, or 42% more. Most of Dejan’s minutes went to Berry who was approximately half as efficient on offense. Often Berry was brought in when we were leading so I assume Vanney’s thinking was Berry is a better hold-up player. But it definitely lowered Dejan’s scoring stats which will likely affect his future contract amounts. Puig was more of an offensive threat than Paintsil. To be fair Joe or Joske got stuck in his less preferred position on the left. Reus was productive offensively in his limited minutes. Non-Galaxy related: Messi’s G+A/90m was 1.87, twice that of Pec and Dejan, at age 37!! Truly a once in a lifetime talent. I feel lucky to get to see him play in MLS. And I hope we crush him in the Finals.
Very interesting. Dejan missed a big chunk of games. I wouldn't call him a "healthy" starter. I don't know where to find the exact stats.
True, Dejan missed some games, playing in 28 matches. For comparison Puig and Paintsil played in 29 and Pec 33, so that explains some of the difference. So a better comparison is minutes per game: McCarthy, Yoshida, Yamane, Puig all 88+ Pec 83 Paintsil 79 Delgado 77 Neal 77 Caceres 71 Joveljik 69 Our only 34 game players were Yoshida and Fagundez (that surprised me!). IMO the best place to find soccer stats is fbref.com. Just google “fbref LA Galaxy” and you can get to all kinds of Galaxy related info.
One of the podcasts (COG?) said recently that Dejan has been struggling with a thigh issue since pre-season. So that could be the reason for his (relatively) limited minutes.
Sources: LA Galaxy sign academy standouts Owen Pratt and Riley Delgado to professional contracts. Deals not MLS homegrown immediately, will start as 2nd team contracts then eventually become 1st team. Both players have been previously called into USYNT camps.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 6, 2024
LB Riley Dalgado and GK Owen Pratt seem to have signed contracts with VCFC and maybe they are not the only ones. CB Jose "Pepe" Magana reportedly signed a contract with our reserves too : https://www.instagram.com/dailylagalaxy/p/DAtK-2uOBF6/ If you want to read a little bit more about these three promising youngsters, @Benny Dargle and I wrote some reviews of their season during the last couple of days. You can find it in the VCFC thread : https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/official-ventura-county-fc-aka-la-galaxy-ii-2024-season.2128992/
Interesting. Wonder how much of it has to do with Kirovski. Or if it's just a natural outcome of having players like Becks, Keano, Ibra, Gerrard, Cole, Gio, Jona, and Marco, being in Los Angeles, and having the most championships.
