Yea, COTG was basically saying its literally all about the Reus deal, how there are multiple things that all have to go right at the same time in order for it to work, from Freeing Cap Space (Perez), Freeing an international slot (Brugman) to paying off Charlotte for Discovery rights ($$$) to Working a deal out with Reus. And there could be more behind the scenes. MLS rules sure make things complicated but interesting. This is the kinda of stuff that makes me think of playing Crusader Kings 2 during the early part of the game when you're "small" but still trying to increase in size, and figuring out all of the "legal" ways the game allows you to do that (from marrying into another family, to getting someone with a claim to the throne so you can have a casus belli, then making sure you have enough armies and "good" generals better than the opposition, but also making sure the opposition has no allies they can call.) Or in Medieval 2: Total War I love playing as a Catholic faction for the extra wrinkle of trying not to piss off the Pope while still expanding against Catholic enemies. I can see how strategy gamers would be excellent MLS GM's.
15-year-old U.S. winger Mathis Albert has officially made the transfer to Borussia Dortmund 🤯Mathis has been a standout for the USYNT along with his previous club LA Galaxy, scoring over 30 goals last season for club and country 😤The future is bright for Mathis ⭐️ pic.twitter.com/u38eoJAMK9— Footy Access (@footy_access) August 1, 2024 I guess we knew this was coming eventually.
This doesn't look like a Galaxy source that's why I think its a bit of a dubious source, but its the first "concrete" explanation of an actual signing so I felt I had to include it. Note this thread is also about "Rumors" as well as actual signings.
Example here: Its still conflicting reports Sources 🚨! There is still no complete agreement between the Marco Reus camp and the #LAGalaxy. Reus will certainly NOT fly to LA on Tuesday. Optimism remains that a deal can be done. However, a full agreement hasn't been reached yet, either. So, the wait continues. ⏰ pic.twitter.com/5qqPj3DUul— Manuel Veth (@ManuelVeth) July 29, 2024
Hard to believe Reus is signing for $350,000 - or that we had to move several players to clear up that little in cap space.
You never really know whats going on behind the scenes, or what other stuff is happening that has nothing to do with the salary cap at all, such as Messi's apple tv deal, or Beckham's Inter Miami option. Or some other intangibles such as Quality-of-life stuff for himself or family.
Definitely - I mean the only reason we are getting him, honestly, is that his wife is a model/actress and I'm sure New York and LA were the only cities she was interested in.
Someone mentioned this earlier, but they’re running a tight ship. Rumors don’t go out as often and freely as they did. sucks for us fans but it’s a good move.
Here we go! 🚨🇺🇸 EXCL: Marco Reus to LA Galaxy, here we go! Deal finally done after initial agreement revealed in July.Contract until December 2025 plus option to extend, as expected.Reus, planning for travel to US in the next days for medical tests and contract signing.Done, sealed 🇩🇪 pic.twitter.com/pLHuR7zrPx— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 7, 2024
"[Marco] Reus and his family were not too interested in St. Louis. There were talks with Charlotte FC, who would have paid him a lot more money." 👀With interest from around the league, @tombogert confirms the @BlackYellow legend will join LA Galaxy this summer. 🌞 pic.twitter.com/gafLP3ekaE— Golazo America (@GolazoAmerica) August 7, 2024
If he's a DP, that's a good deal, but not a great deal. Griezmann is still a fantastic player, but he's fallen off a little and I wonder how long he will be able to perform at that top level. And he won't make the club any money. Definitely can see that with Kuntz gone, LAFC are sliding a little into MLS 2.0 thinking. Let's hope it bites them in the butt.
He netted 16 g/6 a last season in 33 games and had similar stats the season prior. So still pretty good.
Micovic isn't happy and has requested a transfer. Sources: LA Galaxy goalkeeper Novak Micovic has requested a transfer.Micovic starred in Galaxy's two Leagues Cup games, but told he's not planned to start next game. Micovic has just 8 apps for LAG since joining last year.Galaxy insist Micovic is firmly in long-term plans. pic.twitter.com/K9vNgV1Cvh— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 7, 2024 I like the hunger from Micovic. That will serve him well for next year when he's the starter. Vanney likely wants to get McCarthy back into the swing of things before the restart of the season. But if McCarthy stumbles, I can see Micovic taking over. A little more patience… https://t.co/OR13raP9vv— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) August 7, 2024 actually asked Vanney about this earlier today: McCarthy is slated to start, didn't want him sitting for nearly a month, if team wins, Micovic likely goes back into the XI next round ...keepers are fun https://t.co/ZOyiE8e6Ad— Damian Calhoun (@DamianCalhoun) August 7, 2024
I'm in a PITA mood so I will say some unpopular things. first Rues couldn't be arsed to be here ahead of time, knowing full well that this was his only destination in MLS. his rebuffing saint louie and charlotte is his right but it tells me that he is looking for a vacation spot and a place where his wife can try to get American famous (he plays lights out and shows he is here to work, I will gladly eat my words) Micovic, the Galaxy takes a chance and gives you a generous contract out the gate and you show some success and now you're going to be a petulant baby about it. Dude needs to read the room, its obvious to everyone that isn't Micovic that JMac is a stopgap till Micovic proved himself and now that he is showing the talent that the Galaxy saw in him he is ready to jump, again its his right to be a petulant child and its my right to criticize the brat. okay all better, please continue with more sensible takes than mine.
I understand Micovic thinks he’s good enough to start in MLS (he’s right) and wants it to happen sooner rather than later (also reasonable). I think he could handle it a lot better though - go to Kuntz and Vanney and ask what the long-term plan for him is, and if unhappy with the plan, then request a trade. The way he handled it sounds like he’s just mad he isn’t starting next game, which makes him sound like a petulant baby. That being said successful organizations figure out how to keep their talent happy. And Micovic is definitely talented. Having two really strong keepers is both a privilege and a problem. We need to figure out some way to keep him in the fold.
I hope Reus works out. I have trouble seeing whose place he takes in the lineup and I like our current chemistry. Micovic is young and he just had a great game, probably feeling like Superman. Vanney needs to tell him his time is coming soon, and buy him into the program...I wouldn't sell him.
He is a luxury item IMO, no need to use up an international spot on him if he isn't willing to bide his time until next season when he most likely will be the starter. Honestly I'm surprised at the transfer request considering his countrymate Joveljic literally had the same issue while Chicharito was here. Lo and behold, he remains calm while performing well when he has his chances, and now he's our undisputed no. 1 striker. Certainly he could've spoken to Dejan before making such a brash demand. For me, if we can flip him a la Raveloson and make a tidy little profit+banking that international roster spot, all the while holding on to McCarthy for a few more years at his reasonable salary, I'm good.
🚨 ✈️ Marco Reus (35/🇩🇪) will join LA Galaxy. The former #BVB player is on his way to Los Angeles for medical tests and contract signing. The plane takes off in a few minutes. He’s set to sign a two-years-deal until 2026, not 2025 with option. 🇺🇸 @SkySportDE— Patrick Berger (@berger_pj) August 8, 2024
lol I agree only up to a certain extent. COtG podcast added a wrinkle in the works, that apparently his agent is the same as the goalkeeper up in Portland who had a similar kerfluffle. I wonder how much is also his agent working his ear telling him "you can get a better deal go better places". I really hope Dejan can work with him. He's a young goalkeeper, some of this is the learning process with goalkeepers, its an old man's game lol, very rare to see a starting young goalkeeper. I think he does have the skill to be a starter, but considering the position, its not surprising he's not starting yet because our current starter is coming into his own, in arguably the first real starting role he's had in a while, too. If he wants minutes, loan him out to G2 for a few games. Dejan had a few moments where Chich was injured and he came in, but when Chich came back he had to be benched again and while there was some rustling, Greg was able to smooth Dejan out a bit. Regarding Reus, considering he's literally only a depth piece, the ultimate luxury item because he's coming into a midfield that is absolutely already filled with talent, I don't care that he's coming here for that. Word is its more his wife prefers to come to LA for the lifestyle, so there's that. All that I care about is that when he IS called upon to come in and play, he balls out with whatever he can (e.g. Sacha in his last 2 years here). Also, speaking as a man with a family, he could be trying to spend as much time with his family as he can before he makes the move (also up until now it wasn't guaranteed the deal would close). Think of how rare this is. We're picking up an aging European Star not to come save us, but to be the ultimate Look at the shiny we bought that we don't really need but its ours!
