🚨🇺🇸 EXCL: LA Galaxy are closing in on deal to sign Marco Reus as free agent!Final details being sorted, still some work to do with player and his camp but LA Galaxy now close to getting it done.Reus, ready to move to MLS 🇩🇪Here we go, expected soon. pic.twitter.com/A9SUjmNe3j— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 17, 2024
Great. Now just a competent center forward who can put in the odd goal now and then. And we will have a complete team with some depth.
Then if Vanney (or Kuntz) would hire an assistant coach who is a known wizard at teaching defense we could even be on the Road to Seis! One day in the future soccer will be like American football. The best teams will have a head coach and also offensive and defensive assistant coaches. The best O-line and D-line coaches will be highly sought after and highly paid. And the idea that one guy can do it all will look quaint in retrospect. Let's go Kuntz. You could be a pioneer on this front!
https://www.givemesport.com/sources-la-galaxy-close-to-signing-dortmund-free-agent-marco-reus/ This link says we “have to clear salary cap space” Wonder how we do that. We have a pretty thin roster, not sure who we can lose. we wouldn’t move Fagundez would we?
Obvious answers : - Fagundez : big salary, plays exactly the same spot as Reus. But great depth to have and has some solid years in him. - Brugman : big salary, injury-prone, but has a green card now. It doesn't feel like he's moving away from the club, and we would be very thin at the 6 position without him. - Pérez : tons of talent but injury-prone and there's always an issue that prevents him from getting playing time. Plays the same spot as Reus once again, and could have a big trade value around the league. Would hate to see him go but I would trust the club on this one. I don't see other players who could have trade value and we can afford to lose.
Here's the TV spot (referenced a few posts above by MBar) from Bogert where he discusses the deal and the need to clear cap space. He mentions Fagundez as a player other teams should call about, but my guess is we don't need to clear that much space (pro-rated $1m). Kuntz has been nibbling around the edges of the cap with transfers of Aguirre and Ferkranus. If we need a little more, I could see Perez going because of the positional overlap and his inability to stay healthy, but I would hate to see that. If we need more, I could see Caceres leaving. With Neal not going to the Olympics and Garces signed, Caceres is the odd man out right now and I think he has a $600K cap number. Probably someone would take him in Uruguay on a free. At 37, it's hard to see him getting a deal to stay here next year. Plus, that would free up an int'l slot if they needed that plus additional cap space for a backup striker. Great breakdown from @tombogert on the state of the Marco Reus deal, how he fits into this #LAGalaxy side, and what the Galaxy need to do to make salary cap space to get the deal done. pic.twitter.com/B6AF9m3pmH— LA Galaxy 310 𝕏 (@LAGalaxy310) July 17, 2024
MLS officially announced roster rule changes. Teams are now permitted either of these two options:- 3 Designated Players + 3 U-22 Initiative slotsOR- 2 DPs + 4 U-22 + $2m GAM pic.twitter.com/QbrkppjG0K— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 18, 2024 This is different than what was leaked before isn't it? Not a fan of changes in middle of season. Seems like this really helps teams that don't have 3 DPs. Major League Soccer Announces Significant Roster Rule Changes | MLSSoccer.com Opportunity for More Allocation Money from Transfers The updated rules allow clubs to convert up to $3 million of total transfer revenues received into General Allocation Money without restriction on the amount from any individual player transfer. Under previous rules, clubs could only convert up to $1,215,506 following an individual player transfer. Last part will be good when we have to sell Pec to somewhere overseas. That dude is destined for greater things. I don't like this midseason implementation. All the teams that just sold players (like Atlanta sold $40m of players in last month), do they get screwed out of the additional GAM or what?
Marco Reus: LA Galaxy coach addresses transfer links | MLSSoccer.com "Anyone that we hopefully add in the summer window is somebody who can continue to make the team better," Vanney said, hours before the MLS Secondary Transfer Window officially opened in the United States. "A player of his profile gives you experience, it gives you quality, it gives you versatility, also – a winning mentality, a championship mentality," Vanney added of the three-time German Bundesliga Player of the Season. "Those types of things are always good for teams." "We're trying to continue to, with anything that we do, to make the team better, to raise the level, to get deeper, to get all those things that you need as you go down the tail end and you try to make a run at an MLS Cup," Vanney said. "You try to use the summer window the best way possible to keep improving the team." "We'll see what gets done," Vanney said. "But I know the goal with the guys upstairs is to try to get more assets to help this team continue to improve and make a push."

I'll be ecstatic if Reus can become our next Alessandrini. Maybe provide 6-8 goals and assists each. Too much to ask for?
COTG last night said that Brugman is the leading candidate to be traded away to make the space for Reus. And it makes sense - with him being injured most of the season we aren't counting on him, and his green card means he's a more lucrative pickup for a team that needs more midfield help. The other option is Johnny Perez, since a lot of teams are interested in him and with Pec, Paintsil and Fagundez he's 4th on our depth chart and has been very injury prone. But obviously always better to keep young promising talent and trade the older, on-the-decline talent when you can. Which might be the holdup right now - trying to keep Perez and only lose him if all other options fail.
We have hired Mikkel Dencher as Technical Director from Danish Superliga side FC Copenhagen.Additionally, the club has promoted Michael Stephens to Assistant General Manager.📰: https://t.co/NCW8SRlETH pic.twitter.com/zCaWwBWA0Z— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 19, 2024
Looks like a great hire, and good for Mikey Stephens for his promotion. Good to see a former Galaxy player as a crucial part of the FO. It looks like they are taking the front office structure and needs seriously, and putting some money into it as well.
Two more additions. ⭐️⭐️Welcome to the #MLSAllStar squad, Petar Musa and Gabriel Pec! pic.twitter.com/AgvUKPeXg4— Major League Soccer (@MLS) July 21, 2024 congrats to Pec. Our only non all star killer P, Paintsil, is somehow a disappointment with 8G 9 A /s
