Okay for those that went to the theaters to see any of the four MLS games, how were the attendances? This goes for all areas.
I seriously thought about driving down to Irvine (more than an hour drive) to check it out. I'm glad I did not. I ended up going to Good Guys. I hung out at their demo rooms and watched the second half. Awesome picture. Boring game. Cool sales people. Attendance at Good Guys in Canoga Park: 6 Pathetic! Move Good Guys!
i checked out the show in irvine... i'd say no more than 20 people showed up. The picture quality was ok.. but it seemed a bit on the dark side... could have been brighter. The game itself sucked IMHO but i went to support AEG/MLS so its all good...
NY Theatre Union Square We arrived a little late, but on the way out it would seem about 20-40 attended in New York. (Might be more than that--dark theatre) Definitely has potential, but needs to be in a bar environment. Turn up the lights, have vendors come through with beer or food. Hell, make it a night club, take out the chairs and have a bar in the back. Of course, it only works once a week but, then you charge more... One comment about the screen, you could see the dimples on the ball and the close-up and how usually people have make-up when you see them that up close and personal.... Sound was pretty good, I would love to go see the Galaxy against the Quakes and hear how the new stadium sounds in there... Last thing, should not be rated "G" If only for audience blurting out "Shoot the f..n ball!" js
Re: NY Theatre Union Square Of course, they will announce 1,138 in attendance. I just believe that it will ever take off. For the price of 4 people going down there together to watch 1 game (albeit on a bigger and better screen), you could get the season package for the same price! As someone else pointed out, creating a "soccer bar" atmosphere might work, since not all towns have a soccer-friendly sports bar - but that's never going to happen. For one thing, they're not going to "pull out the seats" and put them back in for the next night's moving showing. And more importantly, it is extremely unlikely that they would ever be allowed to serve alcohol on the premises. Not only would they probably have an impossible time getting a liquor license, but unless they are a stand-alone theatre, they are going to be restricted by their lease from selling liquor. I think there is potential to leverage the movie-chain to help MLS, through commercials before movies start, or even by strong-arming movie companies into product placement within the movies themselves. But as for actually making it a viewing destination? Not likely, as long as it's available on TV in homes or bars.
In chicago (actually Lincolnshire a suburb) the picture quality was great and it was at a theater that had the elevated stadium seats. What was best about it was, our coach dave sarachan, GM peter wilt, and player cj brown were there and answered questions. The people in attendance learned the fire will announce today they have narrowed their stadium search to 5 communities.
Rack him. I think some of us are overthinking. This is an experiment, not a revolution. If it doesn't work, so what? Phil owns it all.
Crappy game except for the last 10 minutes of regulation which was comedy, especially the Trembley act. For the first time I could yell at a "movie" and not get yelled at. Now I see the hype for HDTV: crystal-clear picture. Personally, I'd only go back for Galaxy away games.
I think if they showed a game played at HDC more would come. I think if they showed almost any other game besides DC-Colorado more people would come. DC and colorado are boring enough on regular TV in the first place
Trembley was doing his best Rivaldo impression...and that's the last time you will see those two names in the same sentance.
