This is a hard one: I'd say Mullan or Dunivant......I'd give it to Donovan but he only had 45 minutes.

I thought Ramiro Corrales had an excellent game. he was all over the place. composed on the ball, passed well, and broke up a lot of their plays.

    "Other" for me.

Ramiro is one of those guys that is easily taken for granted.....and often under-rated and under-estimated.

Pat Onstead. As relating to this forum, he showed everyone up. The goal was the fault of the defense being asleep. No mistakes that lead to goals, so he gets my MOTM for showing everyone (including me) that he can play here. Granted, there weren't a lot of shots, but he stopped anything that came his way, minus the goal.

    Other.

OK.....I am one of the few who havn't been ragging Onstad(busy ragging Quake mgmt).....the goal was definately his fault....ok, the breakaway was the defense's fault but Ontad pussed out on his save attempt. He should have got the ball and layed a hit on Schmidt that would make him think twice the next time he crossed the 18. As it was, Onstad went into some half-assed attempt at getting his foot on the ball and it got uglier from there. Onstad has not establish the box as "his". Cannon would have gloved the ball, risking injury, and left Schmidt in a heap, on the ground, in a puddle of his own snot. For a veteran keeper, Onstad show's no confidence whatsoever. He needs to get fired up and to fire up his D. Other than Waibel, he was the worst guy on the pitch. I watched DJ Countess play vs LA.....that guy is gonna be an MLS star.

I am one of the ones who have been ragging on Onstad the most. I have no idea how you think he showed me up. He sucked. Just like I've been saying.

I thought Onstad did have a good game, but I wouldn't say he was faultless on the goal. It seemed to me that he was slow to come out and meet the play. Had he reacted sooner, I think he would have beaten Schmidt to the ball.

Onstad did not entirely suck. He did make some clutch plays near the end. I must admit, I did not see the goal he gave up, as I missed the first few minutes of the second half.

MOTM was Donovan, in my vote. Huge impact on the game, and only at half speed for half the time. Can't wait to see the home opener!

All the new guys looked good, but Yallop's gotta get Robinson on the field.

Don't worry; Robinson will get on the field whenever he comes back from injury. The real question is, with Dayak healthy and playing well where to put Robinson. I want to see him in the middle, I'm just afraid Dayak is too slow to cover the right. Waibel should be riding the pine and coming in as a late game sub.

About MOTM, I thought Dunivant, Mullan, and Corrales all had pretty good games, but Donovan was definitely MOTM. Sure, some of his crosses were pretty poor, but so were everyone's; I'm sure he'll be in better form in the next few weeks, and if he hadn't been sick we could've won that game by much more as the offense definitely was stagnant after he left. He looked good (the best he's looked in an Earthquakes uniform for awhile) but not quite at full strength. That will come when he gets over the flu.

Donovan was the best player on the field by far. The Rapids had no idea how to handle him. Once he left, the Quake offensive game plan disappeared.

I have been backing Onstad but I think the goal was definitely his fault. He was waaay late coming out for the ball, he had all kinds of time while the ball was still in the air. That's hopefully a communication problem that can be solved as the season goes.

Corrales. He was running all over the place making things happen.

With only 45 minutes on the field, you can't give MOTM to Donovan. Despite looking sick, he was dangerous.

Landon made the difference. Don't think the score would have been close if he'd been able to go a full 90 (and without affects of the flu). He carved up the defense while firing on only one cylander.

I also liked Ching up front. Huge improvement over his performance against Muncipal. Nice effort on the header in the second half, I think he's going get better and better this year. Obviously, Frank thought enough of him to trade Barclay to ensure we could get him. He seems to have the makings of the target man that Frank's been looking for. This could be fun.

On Onstad, I thought he played decently. Yes, he should have been off his line alot quicker on the goal. But, he made some nice saves and came up big on collecting that cross late in the game. He made some poor decisions early - punching clear in relatively little traffic - but came up big with two saves late in the game. Once he gets his land legs and adjusts to the guys playing in front of him, he might just be OK. (Still, it would be nice to see Joe come back at the end of his experiment in France, and have Onstad as his back up.)

O.K., that was not in the spirit of things, but I am really pissed at these guys. Your team deserved to win but ours deserves a coach that isn't lapsing into insanity.

I gave it to Dunivant over Donovan but just by a hair. If Landon had played the whole game, he would have got the vote, but as it is, Todd played well the whole match with a few exception and scored the winner so he takes the vote.

"Other" for me also. My MOTM was Ramiro Corrales. He played a well rounded game. Runner up goes to Ching though.

I told you the guy should be perusing the want-ads. Rapids have got too much talent for that happen.

    MOTM? Landon or Rrrrrrramirrroo!

As far as Onstad is concerned, I think that some good, hard work under a master like Tim Hanley will make a difference. Look what he did for Joe. He may not be as revered as Otny, but he's a better GK coach.

    Where's the Brian Dunivant option?

    Or is it Todd Mullan?

    Let's ask John Schrader.....

    ;)

Corrales for me too. He was all over the field, contributing well on both sides of the ball.

The guy's 35 years old. If he can't play by this point, nothing will make a difference. You can work a mule good and hard, but it'll never win the Kentucky Derby.

Put him out to stud. Actually. If the brods are good looking, I volunteer for the stud position.

Oh, I don't know about that. Look at all the great work that has been done in rehabilitating Goodsport.
