4-1 to the good guys Fred pops his MLS cherry Luciano continues his hot streak (although I thought he missed some sitters tonight) Blah, blah - no trolls AND NO US SCORES!
Re: Official post-match Thread - DC v Colo [r] WOOOOOOOOOOOO IS ALL I CAN SAY!!! I was nervous that whole first half, but in the second adderly turned into barry sanders! and what a reward for the fans wo stuck around during the rain delay!!! Fred AND Emilio!!!!x100
Re: Official post-match Thread - DC v Colo [r] Adderly needs to work on his finishing, but he's a handful with the ball at his feet.
Another game when we come out after a rain delay a kick arse. Jesus Love's you too Fred (great goal)!!!!!!! All I want to know in who can we beat next?
Addlery was great. Some of the moves he was pulling along the sidelines were amazing. I'm not sure how he was keeping the ball in play. And of course the header was great.
I think the result flattered us tonight but it was nice to close out a team late. Carrol looked pretty bad in the first half, fortunately for him we had no one who could potentially replace him. Addlery looked better than Kpene imo strong on the ball and quite frankly he acually put one away and Kpene Hasn't. Fred's goal was quite nice I hope he would relax more now. I would have liked him to take a long shot when he had the chance after he scored his first. All in all and a decent effort with a inexperienced back line. I think Simms looked solid at right back.
Glad to see Fred rewarded for his efforts, even if he probably should've saved the celebration for faith night.
After a worrisome first half, where we couldn't string three passes together, we finally started communicating, moving, and completing passes. I'm glad to finally see Gomez attacking the way we know he can. Maybe the Captain's armband did something for him tonight. I just hope he keeps it up for the rest of the season. Anyone know what happened to Kpene, why he was subbed out? Emilio, Addlery, Christian, and Fred took a while to click, but were really in the attack mode, late in the first half, and then again after the re-start. I was sorry to see Petke go off injured. He seemed to be in a lot of pain and it appeared to me to be his ankle. Yeah, I'm glad we stayed for the whole match. Now I'll watch my tape of the US/Argentina match.
Pulled a hamstring on a sideline run in the 6th minute. Tried to walk it off, but the way he was holding it (when it happened) it was clear that he was done. Wouldn't expect to see him for a few weeks.
That was the closest 4-1 game that I've seen. Outstanding game from Addlery. Consider that he got thrust into the game much earlier than expected. And it was nice to see that Fred can find the net in the Northern Hemisphere. Moose also had a very nice game, coincidently he stayed on his feet a lot more than in the past.
Just got back from the game. Some thoughts... The Good Adderly is fearless. He looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. I was thrilled that he got the goal. Moose was tireless. Something about the way he runs reminds me of John Maessner. Some of his touches were delightful (though the one after the delay lost him a sure goal). His vision and passing were solid, and he gets stuck in. Nice wing play! Perkins was solid. I am not generally a fan of his, but tonight he impressed me. Erpen was pretty solid. Gomez showed vision, touch, control, and class. People scored. The Bad Carroll gives the ball away too often. He tends to follow a solid play with a bonehead pass. Fred needs to take people on. I cannot count the number of times that he had the ball with one man to beat and did nothing but backpass. If you don't have the skill or the nerve to take on Colorado's defenders, something is seriously wrong, Gros needs to learn to cross the ball. Like Carroll, he follows a nice play with a crap cross/pass. Everyone needs to stop deferring so much to Gomez. Too often we have players with possession in great shooting positions, and they pass to Gomez, who is not in as good a position. This is silly, especially against that travesty of a goalkeeper that we faced. Simms is scary in possession....Not the good kind of scary. We gave them too much space at the top of the box. I don't know if it was confusion or respect, but we let them play with it too often. They are not that good. First half comment: we need to shoot more often (second half comment: see what happens when you shoot?) The Ugly Their uniforms. Their goalkeeper. Christ, what a travishockmockery of a professional keeper! He reminds me of that Nigerian women's goalkeeper from the Women's World Cup (in the US) against the US.
I actually liked their uniforms. They are a vast improvement over their Inter Milan knockoffs, and, to be honest, look better than anything from the green-hued Rollin' Rapids days of early MLS.
Maybe it's Colorado and not Salt Lake who needs to sign Keller. Also I thought Moose played really well. I'm starting to think that we need to get Emilio, Addlery, Moose, Fred and Gomez all in as our attacking players, which means two of the normal starters sit. I hate to say it but Addlery and Kpene have both looked better then Jaime. It might be nearing the end for him. Maybe something like this..... -----Emilio----Addlery---- ---------Gomez---------- --Moose-----------Fred-- ----------Olsen---------- --Gros-----------Namoff- -----Boswell----Erpen---- ---------Perkins--------- I honestly think these 11 are our best 11. At any rate, I think we're a fairly deep and talented team. This would have Jaime and Carroll on the bench. Even Simms looked OK today.
4-1. I wouldn't be a fan if I couldn't complain. Was that our first victory in rain, first come from behind victory, and first goal off a corner this season? The first half was not pretty. I was hoping that first goal would do something to spark the team and it looked like it did some. There aren't many four goal games where you can complain about the finishing.... The second half was much better. After the lightning delay was even better. I expected problems in the back tonight and we had them. We were lucky a few times when defenders were beaten or loosely marking players. I expected Perkins to be himself and have problems distributing the ball, but it seems like the back line has been taking lessons from him. I expect a few turnovers in the midfield, but there were way too many unforced turnovers and giveaways in our own half. This win was a needed win for standings and for players to be able to play. I hope the team is able to get healthy quickly. Did ESPN rush the warmups? The redshirt guy was on the field after what seemed like was only about 5 minutes instead of the full 10. I thought the Gros yellow was soft, but the ref was consistent and gave a yellow for the next Colorado challenge. I thought the dissent afterwards could have received another card, but was not surprised it didn't. After the lightning delay, the officiating was not as fair.... Oh well...JESUS LOVES YOU.
I didn't see the game after the delay (tape stopped) but Bouna has gotten pretty good reviews out here (easily the MOTM last Saturday against Dallas). One of the few bright spots in yet another dull season for the Crapids But I do remember the Nigerian women's keeper, yeah she was awful - even worse against Brazil at Fed Ex in the quarters.
More Good: Switching McTavish and Simms. This gave us better wide play. Moose. He buzzes around like a young Ben Olsen, and is totally fearless. A poor first touch cost him a likely goal, but he did lots of other good things. Simms won every header, it seemed. Very good refereeing, IMHO. More Bad: Too many of our attacking players have caught the dreaded Moreno Disease, which makes them go for cute passes in the box instead of cranking one. Too many errant passes. Letting Cooke get yet another assist on yet another perfect cross.
Moose's second half was significantly better than the first. Like I said in the pre/PBP thread, he was way too tentative too often in the same manner that Quaranta used to be with the ball. He would look for the back pass first and a sqaure ball was often his idea of a risky play. It's clear that Soehn straightened him up at halftime because his first few touches in the second half were very positive. He regressed somewhat at times but does have a good engine. He needs to continue attempting to go forward when he gets the ball with his first touch. Compare him to Fred who almost always takes his first touch forward and causes the defense to shift and cover.
My first thought tuning into the game was...Dang...those are some ugly away kits. Great to see the goals rain in after the rain! You guys looked great in the rain ... reminded me so much of 1997.
Well worth waiting it out in the rain! First half had me seriosly concerned with much to work on. They came back though. Emilo had me worried... but he put one in. Awesome that Fred scored!!! I also like that #33 is improving, and loved that he scored. I don't know what's up with Gomez. Something is going on with him, but way to score on the free kick. I am also lovin Mooooose! Like I said well worth waiting it out through the rain. So glad they picked it up. Now I am freezing from the soaking, and ready for bed.
Eye of the beholder! I plan to watch my tape of the game tomorrow, and I will look for this. My impression is that Moose was very positive and very direct all game. I enjoyed watching him in the first half! As to Fred, while it is nice that he moves forward, he was not taking people on. It got to the point where I had no sense that he was a legitimate threat when he was holding the ball. I know he scored. I am referring to all the other times that he stood out on the wing with one defender in front of him and he did nothing but backpass. Again, I plan to watch the tape. Again, wow, I saw it totally differently.
A word, please, for our beloved Wanker even though he plays for the rapids now. The TV was saying that he might have fractured his leg. I hope not but I've never seen him in such pain.
I thought Carroll had a pretty rough night...he just seemed off. Was he laying deeper to protect that makeshift backline or was he just not right this evening?
