A little bumping news..... Some quotes from Stone in today's Toronto Sun (courtesy of 5H): "Pearl Jam is going to do a few shows sometime in late November and then probably in February, we'll be out," said Gossard down the line from Portland, Oregon, where he was vacationing. As for the new album, Gossard reports: "I listened to it the other day and it sounds great, yeah. I'm very excited about it. We worked with a guy named Adam Kasper, who co-produced it, so that's new. And the record sounds great. Brendan O' Brien mixed it and he did an excellent job. Everyone wrote songs, and there's some really beautiful songs." As previously reported, PJ is shooting for November 19 as the release date of the new album
niiiiiice. Glad to see it's back . any news on wha tth title of the new release will be? ------------------------ i got "no code" on vynil the other day. awesome.
nope. If I recall correctly someone asked in a pre-crash thread about PJ's contract status. Just saw this article that discusses their options: Pearl Jam Faces an Epic Crossroads Some quotes: "This, they say, is a band that could be as big as U2 but has chosen not to be, as reflected in sales of its last few albums. The most recent, 2000's "Binaural," sold about 700,000 in the U.S.--healthy but shy of mega-star, or mega-contract, status." "They would have to demonstrate that they're willing to do the work that Bruce Springsteen and U2 are willing to do," one executive says. "It's hard to find groups that have the magic that they do, and if they wanted that [stature], it would be like the MasterCard commercials--they would be priceless."
The latest.... - Album release date moved up to November 12 - The first single looks like it will be 'I Am Mine'. "Look for this to hit radio September 17. Today's Ten Club update provides October 8 as the in-store purchase date for the single." (from http://www.fivehorizons.com/news/index.shtml) Here is a link to the single performed live last year. http://www.fivehorizons.com/tour/cc/t2001.shtml (Scroll down to the 10/21 show info)
Re: The latest.... Awesome! That's easily my favorite song from the new stuff I've heard. I wonder if the single will be an electric version or more similiar to the accoustic versions I've heard. If accoustic, then give Eddie some heroin and he's Elliot Smith.
very cool news. polaris will rock a great rocking once again. meanwhile, sonic youth is/was on tour.. how cool that would be if PJ popped in every once in a while for some guest preformances.
Love Boat Captain and Bushleaguer are two more songs featured on the new CD. I Am Mine's b-side is "down"
I would describe myself as a passive Pearl Jam fan. I don't own all their records, I think they are good and all that, better than most bands in fact and I've seen them live. My question though is, why in the world did they release their entire tour a few years back? They don't have that big of a playlist (all of the albums had very similar setlists) and its not like they are a jam band that does a ton of improvisation. Was this purely to put off bootleggers? Did it sell well?
It sold very well. They have a very dedicated cult of fans, who most likely bought each concert they went to. Pearl Jam has somewhere around 75 songs that they play live.
I know they are huge, I mean they've had multi-platinum albums and all that stuff. The reason I asked, is I was curious if fans would lay down hard earned cash for basically the same tunes over and over again. I say this in comparison to Phish (my favorite band) who has played probably well over 500 different tunes live. I saw an interview with their guitar player that says on any tour they usually have around 300 songs ready to go. Several years ago, I saw Phish four nights in row and they didn't repeat a single song in any of the shows. They played around 100 songs those four nights. I know their big fans don't hesitate purchasing their Live Phish series because of the variety of tunes and the improvisation, I was just curious about the motivation of the average Pearl Jam fan.
Yep. Pearl Jam has been my favorite band since 6th grade. But I rarely post on these "Official Pearl Jam Threads."
