You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? http://www.soccertimes.com/wagman/2003/nov08.htm This crap is really beginning to piss me off
OK. Now I hate Club America. Hands off the Fire! I figured that, if AEG where only going to hold on to two teams, Chicago would be one of them. New owners have a funny way of fixing things that aren't broken.
Sounds like BS to me. Although if it happens, and they change the team name and colors, I would imagine most of the supporters would be shunted aside in exchange for an all Mexican American fan base. If that would happen, the ramifications for the league are quite severe. Essentially, they would be saying that they have given up on their present model and are going to pander exclusively to the ethnic crowd. It seems like an act of desperation, and I just don't see this being a desperate time. Hence, I think it's made up. I sure hope so.
If club america does come in and change the uniform and everything, i can honestly say i'll never got to another game, or watch one on tv. but, we all know that if they were gonna do that, they'd have to let Peter Wilt go. andi don't know if there's anybody stupid enough to do that.
Nope. LA and NY. From a recent interview with Kevin Payne. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81039
What? Hands off our team and our GM! no questions asked. what kind of money would it take to keep the Fire out of the hands of club america? we could have a fund-raiser and do bake sales or just do smash and grabs on the south side to get some cash.
No, never. There isn't a Mexican club I'd like to be associated with less. Marry the financial muscle of the Yankees with the front office competence of the Blackhawks and you have Club America. I'd sooner support the Gals, or MetroScum. We'll come up with someone local with the cash as soon as single entity is finished.
I make a mean lemon bar, and know some friends who could put together some brownies we could sell at a slightly 'higher' price.
Oh! That nice Billy Archer boy is so nice to help us out. How did he know that´s EXACTLY what I wanted to say? We are special, and I´m glad someone outside of Chicago recognizes that.
Re: You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? Where does Bayer get they money for this?
Hey, only too glad to help out. No need to thank me. So what do you think you'll change the name to: The Chicago Hot Tomales ?
Re: Re: You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? By selling Landon Donovan! See, they're so impressed that he's developed well in the league that they now want to invest in MLS. I stand by my earlier prediction - Club America will buy the Burn. Although I am amused at Chicago's indignation. Who's the best? Well, according to St. Phil's estimation, other teams.
Actually, I don't know how great of an idea this would be for Club America anyways. Chicago is way more of a Chivas town. Outside of LA, more people have come from Guadalajara to Chicago than any other city in the U.S. These people are almost exclusively Chivas fans, and Chivas fans HATE Club America.
I hope you´re right Greddy. I´m steaming mad with indignation. We are special, and if the pencil pushing geeks at the league office can´t confirm that from the readings their slide rules, then we need to get indignant. And I´m not talking "get your britches in a bunch" indignant, I´m talking about "stay 10 feet away from me at all times because I haven´t slept or showered in 6 days and if you don´t want to come face to face with the equivalent of Janet Reno with a hot coal jammed up her backside, then don´t touch my team" indignant. or more importantly; hands off Peter Wilt. EDIT -- can we make it an official MDSC rule (perhaps rules number one) that if anyone messes with PW then they automatically incur the wrath of the ´street crew?
Re: Re: You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? Bayer is a pharmaceutical giant, and I am sure they got $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to buy a $10million club
Re: Re: Re: You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? I find it hard to believe that the pharmaceutical company, that some 10 years ago stopped supporting their German team, would pony up money for an MLS team. I find it also hard to believe that Bl.04 would take on this expense when they are trying to save money after last year's debacle season.
Re: Re: You guys aren't going to like this...Club America Chicago? ps. read the whole article. The part about Club America buying Chicago is at the bottom.
While I'm certainly not a Fire fan, the Fire have always struck me as one of the most successful franchises in the league, both on and off the field. I have no idea why AEG and MLS would be interested in breaking up the Fire, and keeping the Metros intact at the same time. It makes no sense. Of all the wild expansion scenarios that have been mentioned and thrown about in the past few weeks, this one strikes me as the least likely. Why would the league get rid of one of their best teams? What ridiculous rumor is next? Moving the Crew to Rochester, so beloved Panamanian club Deportivo Arabe Unido can buy into the MLS Columbus market?
A change in ownership? No problem. Now, if the new owners come in here and dump the whole front office (or even just Peter Wilt), then that would be a problem, if not a disaster.
Honoring your namesake "fairweather", we could quote the old Spanish adage: "Cuando el rio suena, agua lleva..." "If you hear noise from the river, it means there is water running..."
