A college roommate of mine in the 80s DJ’d the reggae hour Sunday nights on the university radio station. So many good memories…Sly with Toots (inventor of the term reggae), Tosh, Aggravators, Upsetters, Cliff, and I think Black Uhuru. It t seemed like Sly was part of everything
Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio) - YouTube Through the winter’s ice and cold Down Nicollet Avenue A city aflame fought fire and ice ‘Neath an occupier’s boots King Trump’s private army from the DHS Guns belted to their coats Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law Or so their story goes Against smoke and rubber bullets By the dawn’s early light Citizens stood for justice Their voices ringing through the night And there were bloody footprints Where mercy should have stood And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets Alex Pretti and Renee Good Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice Singing through the bloody mist We’ll take our stand for this land And the stranger in our midst Here in our home they killed and roamed In the winter of ’26 We’ll remember the names of those who died On the streets of Minneapolis Trump’s federal thugs beat up on His face and his chest Then we heard the gunshots And Alex Pretti lay in the snow, dead Their claim was self defense, sir Just don’t believe your eyes It’s our blood and bones And these whistles and phones Against Miller and Noem’s dirty lies Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice Crying through the bloody mist We’ll remember the names of those who died On the streets of Minneapolis Now they say they’re here to uphold the law But they trample on our rights If your skin is black or brown my friend You can be questioned or deported on sight In chants of ICE out now Our city’s heart and soul persists Through broken glass and bloody tears On the streets of Minneapolis Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice Singing through the bloody mist Here in our home they killed and roamed In the winter of ’26 We’ll take our stand for this land And the stranger in our midst We’ll remember the names of those who died On the streets of Minneapolis We’ll remember the names of those who died On the streets of Minneapolis
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free, Bruce Springsteen
Every time I listen to this I imagine the worlds greatest two pole. Should have done it during the wooden spoon era.
I wouldn't put it past Seger to release a song about all this. Am damn glad and not the least bit surprised Billy has answered the call.
And Eric Clapton, but it will be something about how he wants to "keep the country white" and how Immigrants are ruining the country.
Before Seger made his last album he says he called his accountant to ask if he had enough capitol if he should piss off his fan base and lose popular support. His accountant assured him that he was pretty well set for life. So on the album he recorded three songs addressing or mentioning global warming, covered Leonard Cohen and also Lou Reed's "A Bus Load of Faith", rewriting a line to swipe at Trump.
Clinton recalled: “I told him to play as if his mother had died — to picture that day: what he would feel, how he would make sense of his life, how he would take stock of everything inside him.” “Maggot Brain” has become sacred text for guitarists, hip-hop producers, psychedelic rock heads, funk scholars, and stoner mystics alike.
Just going to say...find a room with a big screen and a worthy sound system...you won't be disappointed
Seriously...if you haven't experienced/watched/listened to Maggot Brain......IT IS NOT POLITICAL......it will alter your views, generically and spiritually
I own the album of course but I saw George Clinton and P-Funk ~20 times. I even saw the Mothership with George and Bootsy. Some of the best shows I ever saw involved Maggot Brain.
Bootsy and "America Eats Its young" was my intro...I've lost count, of times I've experienced the "Prime Minister of Funk", "Dr. Funkenstein", "Atomic Dog"....all DaT...in the end George tapped the root...and connected a lot of folk to it. Thank you dog. Interestingly, I was texting earlier with my 20yr old, formerly 1st quad in HS marching band...I'm like...do you know Clyde?...no funk CLYDE!
I just read that George is hitting the road again this summer and reviving the Mothership. I saw it in its first revival at the Riviera. I’ll try to see it again.
“If you aren’t ready to get in the face of a ********in’ fascist, what the ******** are you doing listening to punk?” MEET THE MINNEAPOLIS PUNKS FIGHTING ICE “Pretty much everyone I know involved in resisting this occupation is involved in the music scene,” says one musician who was detained by ICE https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/minneapolis-ice-punks-diy-1235512606/
How don't we know this? Woody lived in a Fred Trump owned building, and was so impressed about the place that he wrote a song about it, calling out Papa Trump by name.
