Burn vs. FC Cowbell Pre-Match: Got a much better feeling about this one: -grass -DC is weaker than NE or LA -Jeff Bradley has only picked us to tie: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/firstXI0429.html Etcheverry may be out: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=46710 (does that help or hurt the Burn's chances?) Dallas 2, DC 1
Some have asked if it should be DCU that's the new 'hacks' instead of Metro. We'll see if this is plausible this coming Saturday. But I wouldn't count on it. They've got a talented side... with or without Etch.
By no means am I a DC Fan, but I am glad Etch won't play and hopefully Convey takes his spot in the middle. My position as a USA fan wants to see Convey really develop into the attacking center mid role that everyone has been expecting. The more Etch is out, the more time Convey gets in the middle.
If Etch is out, I'm willing to bet it will be some combination of Dema K, Earnie Stewart, and Ryan Nelsen in the middle and NOT Bobby Convey. Husdon doesn't see Convey as a center-mid.
Based on their off-season acquisitions -- Kovalenko, Petke, Stoichkov -- I'd say that's the case. Legbreakers United seems like an appropriate name for that bunch.
Re: Etcheverry expected to play on Sat Etch to play, ok, but I'll believe the part about Convey playing in the center when I see it.
Kovalenko is the one and only player that shouldn't be allowed near another MLS player. It seems he likes to hurt other players. Wouldn't surprise me if he hurt his own.
The Burn should win this game, even away. If they lose, Jeffries should be thinking about getting his resume together, new contract or not. Not that Andy will fire him right away, but it would continue a disturbing trend that started on Saturday.
We are in our worst start in team history. If he keeps dropping point at home, he should be fired. We have always done bad on the road so i wont worry about that as much.
Re: Burn vs. FC Cowbell Pre-Match: You lot have lost your damn minds. It's good you are already putting things in perspective. Looking like you won't take even a point when saturday comes? Then hey, why not just focus on the positives, like playing on grass right?
Welcome DC loyal. I'm glad to see that DC can still hold on to a few fans despite 3 of the most miserable seasons in the history of MLS - and all in a row! And you've even got some spirit left. Enjoy the early part of the season before Etch, Stoitch, and Olsen all go out with year ending injuries about week 5. By the way, it sure does suck screwing yourselves by picking a waste like Eskandarian when you had the #1 pick and could have taken a stud like Ricardo Clark, doesn't it? Believe me, we know. We're all looking forward to the even slower version of Etch expected this Saturday.
Re: Re: Burn vs. FC Cowbell Pre-Match: Do you remember last year, when DC had to beat Dallas to make the playoffs, and Eddie Johnson scored the winning goal in overtime to beat y'all 4-3? I do. I will love EJ forever for that goal alone. Good luck in the playof- well, good luck with the rest of your season.
Re: Re: Etcheverry expected to play on Sat Better yet, how bout listening to Ray Hudson saying Convey is playing centrally for the next few weeks? www.wust1120.com Click on the Archived Programs section and then "The Soccer Show" (about half way down the list of shows) and then click onto Week 2.. Hudson comes on right away and talks for about half an hour and addresses this issue straight up.. In fact, I'm the one who asks Ray about Convey.. I suggest you listen to the whole interview and listen for some classic one-liners from Ray.. That man is a stone cold riot.... Enjoy.....
Well as you posted on the DC board earlier you havn't seen any DC games yet this season so forgive me if I don't read much into any of your analysis or predictions of United thus far. DC has never had a problem holding onto fans, we'll always be true. I Like your new stadium and attendance numbers thus far though. And yes we have plenty of spirit left to go around. Ahhh, three seasons of being complete crap and don't we know it. No one knows better than us. It's a good thing we've had four seasons of glory, victories, and memories to help tide us over until we are back where we belong. (A lot of alcohol has helped too.) I honestly could not reasonably predict an outcome in this match to be fair. We have stopped getting our hopes up too high but I wouldn't count my points to early when playing us this year if I were you, especially coming into RFK. Cheers.
The Dallas Morning News reports that DJ Countess appears healthy and is expected to regain his spot for Saturday's match. Jeff Cassar suffered a concussion in training Monday in a collision with forward Bobby Rhine. Cassar performed some drills Wednesday but did not practice with the team. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/soccer/stories/050103dnspoburndate.7bb62.html
We should be able to beat DC. They are moving players around like Ray Hudson is just guessing. 1 point in 2 game sis not great - but its not the end of the world either and a bit early to start teh talk about our worst start ever. From the DMN: "Burn defenders Chris Gbandi and Shavar Thomas were involved in a serious automobile accident Tuesday evening. Although neither was seriously injured, both were taken to the hospital...treated and released but missed Wednesday's training as a precaution....Gbandi's car was totaled in the accident." Yikes. Looks like Broome will go the full 90 thsi week. "Jason Kreis will take penalty kicks this season... Kreis, 4-for-6 in his career, has been reluctant in the past to take penalty kicks." Relucatant?? What's that all about? Letting Zarco take them is fine, but why the reticence? The dude hist screamers into the net over a 5 man wall but doesn't want to take PK's? I don't get it.
Anyone else underwhelmed by this 'suggested' DC lineup? ------------------- Rimando --------------------- Petke -------------- Nelsen ------------ Prideaux ------------ Alegria ------ Convey --------------- Olsen --------------- Etch ------------- Kovalenko --------- Quaranta --------- Stewart -----------
all I'm saying is we better win. If we can get the Defense together correctly, I think the boys will feel a sudden urge to kick ass now that they are playing on grass again. This may be the Burn's best Away game season.
Just on his reluctance, I'd put Davis on Penalties in a heart beat. At least we'd get to enjoy his rocket shots. Goalkeepers are a brave lot.
Except Jason is more likely to be on the field. As for reluctance, taking penalties is more psycological than anything else. You can't just say get over it. Hopefully the nerve will hold.
It's really a guessing game to what Ray puts up there in midfield. Lot of changing lineups and little cohesion. What about the Burn's lineup?
------------------- Countess -------------------- T-Bone -------Suarez---- Morrow -------- Broome -------------------Deering ----------------------- Vaca -------------- O'Brien--------------- Chivas ------------ EJ ------------ Kries ---------------- pretty much the same as it's been for the past couple weeks: Maybe Davis over Chivas. Maybe we'll see Cerritos at some point.
