what shirt number was he wearing, and you can't look it up,

how could two people see the same guy so differently, I think he was the only player that showed some skill and vision, Mathis second best and Tim Howard as always, Pope was ok, but half the team was crap

i think the problem is Mathis... he bitch too much and he looked like a lazy fool... can we call him Carlos Valderamma? I don't want him to play the midfield anymore... NO!!!! o yeah, Moreno looked like Diego Serna... isn't that great!

Moreno tried to do way too much with the ball, like dribbling between 2 or 3 defenders. The guy needs to learn to look for the extra pass which often sets up scoring opportunities.

Moreno did not suck last night.

The best thing about Morenos game to me is not his scoring. It the other things that he does to help his teams win.

It is not even his beating defenders 1 v 1 even 1 v 2 which he did in this game at times. Incidently, if we can ever isolate Moreno in these situations he will score a lot of goals.

The best thing about his game to me is that he is a very intellegent player with his movement off the ball.

I first saw that in 1995 during Copa d Oro I think it was in Uruguay in a game against the U.S.

We played well in that tournament beat Argentina 5-0 more or less, but lost to his team 0-1 in the perliminary early in the tournament. We still moved on, and they didn't.

He had a team mate the dribbler attacker. A US defender was on him, and in support of the US defender was Balboa the 2nd defender.

Moreno adjusted his position, and Balboa could not disregard him and adjusted his position defensively slightly.

That first attacker beat his defender and Balboa could not recover in time to pick him up. That player shot and scored the winning goal.

Morenos off ball play made that goal happen. I said to myself that guy could play. I did not know who he was at the time.

I thought we paid too much money for him at first. I also thought we paid to much money for Pope, but now I think I might have been wrong.

Pope at least in this game took our defense from bad the year before to very good now. So that is worth the money.

I think Moreno's overall game will make him also worth the money.

Moreno played quite well last night, just fizzled out towards the end. I welcome him to the Metrostars!

Minus Magee, add a streaking Mathis to some of the dribbles up the side and we would be celebrating. When we have a midfielder to push Mathis up and we don't score, I will complain along with you. Right now I have only hope.

How is it that you people are satisfied with Moreno's soccer last night??? Its a shame how you can sell a guy that talented so short. He is capable of so much more. Last night he played CRAP compared to his potential....not compared to Magee or the others. He wasn't running and did not have the control he is capable of. Can't you see its about playing to one's potential.

This team could have won last night and I start with the one who was furthest from his best Clearly it was Moreno.

Jaime - good, but hoping for better.

Jaime's always been one of my favorite players - great speed and ball skill. Last night I kept waiting for the great speed. Following all of his knee problems, I'm wondering if that part of his game is gone. He did a nice job holding and distributing the ball, but just once I'd like to see him make a one-touch pass to keep the play moving forward. Last night there were simply too many "Latin" ball skill demonstrations for my taste.

Every offensive player sucked. Everyone is just picking on Moreno and Mathis because they know that they are better than that. From what Bradley and others have said about Magee and LeBlanc I think they were the two most underperforming players last night. I was watching on TV but still, Moreno and Mathis didn't do too much but it looked like if the attack was cohesive they would have been doing well. Everyone was doing their own thing, at least Mathis and Moreno were doing something.

Moreneo = Serna??? This would be very sad for us and our season. Can Jaime still turn it on??? Was last season a fluke or what we can expect?? Looks slow to me.

jamie is past his time...injuries, laziness in the offseason, and too many pizzas have gotten to him.
he still has great skills and when he is on, he can be deadly, but i think that is now past.

Look at how he played the last 2 years and compare that to before he started getting hurt (by the way his injury problems probly come from not taking care of himself in the offseason). Last year he took a couple of PKs. The one I remember most was against the banana team....the ball was slotted to the lower corner (great placement), however it was soft enough that it gave prethus the opportunity to make the save.

When you can't even put enough pace on a PK to beat a keeper you might as well not take the shots.

I hope Jamie returns to what he is capable of, but based on his time with us don't hold your breathe, you'll probly be blue in the face and passout before he does what he can.

I want to see what happens when we have our center mid.

It's tough after all the problems, but don't over react after one game, where Columbus packed their defensive end with 9 or 10 field players, countering, as opposed to creating.

Jaime didn't finish well at all, but he did show that all of his skills aren't gone.

As for Mathis, remember he had his gut cut open not too long ago, and only started practicing a week ago.

From where I was sitting, a few times, moreno beat a defender but lost the ball afterwards on the turf. I'm pretty sure when players get used to the turf things will look different on the field.

<<<How is it that you people are satisfied with Moreno's soccer last night??? >>

How? Because most people on this forum still don't understand soccer. These are people that used to think Miles Joseph was the next coming of Pele.

Maybe I've been watching to much Brazilian soccer and it has spoiled me.

Sure Moreno didnt have any help upfront, but nonetheless he played like crap. He wouldnt let go of the ball until he lost it. And when your team got 2 shots on goal all game how can you say your #9 played well.

The entire team was lifeless, while the Crew was impressive. The Crew looked like a team, the Metros looked like a flashback to Metro's 1996 with some very very questionalble "talent". I actually think that in the opening game of 1996 the Metro's actually played better than this Saturday.

Man oh man, for you guys who are saying Moreno had a good game, you have no idea how this game we are fans of ought to be played. Read a few books or something!

Moreno had a HORRIBLE first touch, with passes bouncing off his shins going three or four yards away from him when he tried to trap, going right to the opposing defender. He had no first touch at all, he looked sluggish, he lost the ball too much, he did so many things wrong. All game, I think he had maybe two or three good things that he did, and thats it.

His play was PISS POOR.....I expected Mathis to play like that, and Moreno to be sharp. But it was the other way around. Mathis had some nice touches, a very nice shot. Mathis also got back to play a little defence.

Moreno dissapointed me greatly. I only hope he can improve on his touch, his shooting, his passing, and his overall play in general. If I'm Bradley right now, I'm looking at making that third SI spot a striker.

Anyone who has seen Jaime in preseason knows he has not lost his speed. He did look slow Saturday but so did everybody except maybe Digi and Hejduk. All you people writing Moreno off already are sad cynics who should find something else to watch for the next month while the team comes together. That'll spare us the overreacting and poorly-formed opinions from the armchair technical directors.

    Short memory

Guess you forgot the 2 goals and assist Moreno scored against the Metros last May in that 4-2 game. Nice try though

It takes a shmuck to start this thread. As always you know more about Soccer than anyone else. What makes you so smart?

So the offense had an off night. Guevara is here, Clint will be uptop with Jaime. You panic so much it's all going to be fine.

The offense will be alot better This coming Saturday, lay off the coffee would you please.

Normally, Clint being up top with Moreno might not be a good thing because Mathis always seems to move in the other strikers space. But, as I said previously I don't think that will happen because Moreno moves smart without the ball. Alot smarter then Serna.

Maybe, Moreno won't score as much as he used to but his runs will help Clint score more then he has in the past up front. That is my predicition.

I still think Moreno will score if the team is smart enough to get Moreno isolated one v one.
