In March, when we seemed depleted and destined for hex disaster, Guzan gave us assured performances in a hazardous blizzard and in a hostile Azteca while we righted the ship. Put under pressure in San Jose, Howard just disappeared from the situation. There was no thunder...no veteran leadership. He stayed meekly on his line time after time (hoping to make a T-HO REACTION SAVE!!!! (tm)) and ultimately paid the price as his disorganized defense gave up the killer third goal with him nowhere to be found.

Howard's play has gotten worse and worse since a mediocre World Cup in 2010. Klinnsmann says all spots are up for competition, and to his credit they have been. But Timmy keeps getting the nod in big games, and keeps just being meh.

We have so many good keepers, there's no reason to settle for this mediocrity.

I have been this train for a while, but I officially call for Guzan.

    COSIGNED.

There is not a single reason to not sit Howard.

I don't get it though. Klinnsmanns has made everyone else fight for spots. Why not Howard?

Needs to happen...Timmy's time, while much appreciated, is dwindling...I want Guzan for Mexico

It'd be one thing if Howard did whatever he could, but he could have done better on the 2nd and 3rd goals.

Sorry Howard, I like ya, but it's time for Guzan to get the nod.

Yep. He just can't seem to show up in big games.

Goal two was pretty bad, goal three calls for a benching. Brad Guzan has been better for two years now.

The window to do this has likely already come and gone for these two qualifiers at this point. Changing keepers right now is a panic move.

Granted, that's exactly what we're doing but still...

I don't think it was a mediocre WC. But it was a bad last game.

On the last goal, Campbell first touches the ball slightly less than 24 yards away from goal. His run started from his own half. It's inexcusable that Howard didn't come out and clear that ball.

Howard plays nervous because of the horrid backline...... Guzan plays with nerves of steel.... The change probably should be made but it won't...... Howard plays well in England because Everton defenders can fix the f**k ups they create... With us, not so much.

This is far from our biggest problem after tonight and it's a really awkward time to make the switch but yeah it's time. Really doubt Jurgen actually does it though.

Given the number of assumed starters that will be out of Tuesday's game in Columbus due to injury or card accumulation, you could argue for a switch of Guzan for Howard too. You could also argue that because of those disqualifications, we need Howard more than ever. If Guzan gets the nod, I don't think it will be against Mexico, but I could see if for our last 2 October qualifiers, just to spice things up. If we don't get any points Tuesday, it could be more reality than fantasy that Guzan will be in goal against Jamaica and Panama.

I think Tim makes our back line jumpy. The same green guys were pretty solid in Guzans starts at Mexico and in Denver. At least they looked more assured and not so panicky to me.

When Howard is on his game he is unbeatable. but when he's off, he misses shots by the tiniest of margins. This now happens too often. His era was great, I thank him, but it's time to pass the torch.

I don't think we would have won this match with Guzan. Costa Rica was inspired as they usually are against us at home.

Kinda tough to tell - who thought Guzan would have pretty much won that Arsenal match earlier this year for Villa? Everyone knew he was top quality but he played like a man possessed that day.

I don't think Guzan would have stopped all three goals yesterday. I think the Defense would have made the same mistakes and maybe even more.
Kinda tough to tell as you say as we are Monday morning quarterbacking here.
