Homesick? What kind of a white flag raising *************** is this? Even Donovan, a mere 17 year old lad, stuck it out in Germany for two years before he decided to come back home. And since when do politics have the slightest thing to do with playing football? Just goes to show that you can't trust a frog.

I'm feeling tame but anyone else can feel more than free to go off. This just really pisses me off. The man SIGNED a contract and is not willing to fulfill it. And I'm not even a Rapids fan - but I am an MLS fan and this stinks.

Other than the fact that he walked out on a conract, for which I'm sure he will be held accountable, I don't care.

    Really pointless thread.

Why is it that Americans can go abroad and people all over the world who don't approve of the foreign policy of our government can differentiate between individual Americans and the policies of its government, yet Americans here have to mouth off about how French people are stinky snail-eating prophets of appeasement?

It's ignorant and bigoted. Grimandi has to sort out the issue of his contract and player registration, but I really hope people don't embarrass themselves in a moronic "French bashing thread."

How do you explain the multitudes of Europeans then boycotting things like Coca Cola and McDonald's? Ultimately they're hurting individual Americans and not our government. But that's neither here nor there. This is about one player who happens to be French. I wouldn't care if he was from Thailand - the point is that he signed a contract to play and now, a man in his 30's, claims to be 'homesick' (how cute) and wants to leave because he himself can't differentiate the politics from the sport. Don't fancy yourself the scholar all too soon...

agreed haig. i hope this thread becomes a forum for more comments like yours... regardless, as far as grimandi goes, he didn't compromise what he believed and i commend him for that.

Coca Cola and McDonald's aren't "people" last time I checked. And didn't all that stuff come up in the wake of "freedom fries" and restaurateurs pouring out bordeaux in front of the cameras from Channel Six NewsWitness?

Cheap symbolism, but not personal attacks on individuals because they're from a given country.

And you're the one who made this a "French-bashing" thread.

Sheer bigotry. I am embarrassed for you.

Do you know how many innocent people were killed during Saddam's reign? His gassing of the Kurds? Do you know how many innocent people will die if he stays in power? Wake up people!

if i was surrounded by a bunch of idiot rednecks badmouthing my country i'd leave as well.

its a shame though. i was looking forward to singing 'who let the frogs out' when the rapids came to town.

Don't fancy yourself sentient all too soon...

Not to play moderator, but there is a whole world of repetitive posturing pro and con this war available on the Politics thread.

This thread is for people like "roarksown" to use bigoted epithets and malign an individual player for ostensibly typifying an asinine stereotype, or for people like me to implore him to have some shame.

If you read his diary, posted on his website, he makes no mention of anyone giving him a hard time. I think this was entirely a personal descision, one that I think you have to respect, even if you don't agree with it. ...except for the bit about walking out on his contract. That's not cool.

Sorry to being facts onto this thread...I'll go away now.

sorry to being facts on this thread??

    oh dear.

well maybe colorado is different from peoria (i hope to god it is) but i can't walk 20 feet without seeing anti-france bumperstickers/hearing french jokes.
that and the fact that he realized colorado sucks were probablty the main factors in his leaving. and hell... if i got allocated to colorado i'd retire too. though at least valderrama was man enough to tough it out for a year.

It's really not to hard...just THINK about it. Get rid of Saddam, you end the killing. What are you saying, just let this madman-serial killer torture and murder thousands? please explain.

come on... USA is there for the only porpuse of the oil control.... did you forget that CIA helped to make sadamm a leader in iraq???...

most USA gov. can change their morals when the time passes, and when their money is touched...

i bet that if iraq launches a missil and they hit a building in North America you will say that this thing is terrorism, but when you destroy dozens of buildings and kill a lot of lives in a country that has done anything to you... you say that is a fight for freedom... please!!!!

ohh i forgot, a lot of people is against you because you fell the need of control of the entire world, when in the gods sake the gov of USA will stop acting like if they were owners of the lives of other people outside USA.

before a lot of people start to kill me with their post i just want to say that i like USA people... i only really disagree USA's international politics...

well i don't see how our murdering and tortuting 1000's is any better than him doing it. in fact in the good old days when we were smart enough to delegate authority didn't we just let him do it for us?
sure i'll explain. just as soon as you explain to me how getting rid of saddam will end the killing (and by that i don't mean type in all caps 'saddam would just keep killing'.. i mean how will his ouster help anything) do you think the kurds and sunnis and shi'a will just sit down and love one and other? do you think democracy will rise up out of the sands like the fabled city of Nargash? if you can use examples of how our excellent campaign in afghanistan (currently the worlds #1 exporter of opium, and just as violent as it was under the taliban, who apparently are still operating in that country) has stopped the violence there then i'll give you a cookie. or how the tension between the kurds and the turks will be affected by our removal of saddam.
killing happens. killing will happen for a long time in that region (and all other regions) for a few reasons which i don't feel like going into here (feel free to pm me). and the only difference i see is that its an anti-american stooge doing it and we'd prefer it to be a pro-u.s. stooge.

the politics of the u.s. in general are freakish.

its because we're governed in secret by the freemasons and superintelligent blue spiders from alpha centauri.

sorry to bring FACTS on to this thread.

Oh come on...if we were just going in for oil, then why didn't we just run kill him in 1991 after we kicked him out of Kuwait. I'm so sick of hearing this tired, baseless accusation.
