Wouldn´t call it "lying", but believing to an urban legend. They said, he once had success as a singer in Germany and still is touring sometimes.

But I´m shure he is not touring "extensively" in Germany, at last not to big audiences in big halls.

I will second herewego in general.

Knight Rider and Baywatch were somewhat popular shows -- though it might well be said that they were popular for other reasons than Hasselhoff himself -- and Hasselhoff had one huge hit in 1989 with "Looking for Freedom".

Other than that he had seven other songs who entered the charts between 1989 and 1993. Their respective high ranks were between 8 and 78. Nothing after this, though.

Hasselhoff is certainly not what I would call big in Germany.

seems to me that it's 70-30 if zlatan is starting tomorrow. He is injury free...

I used to hate Germany and have always rooted against them having lived in Germany over 8 year but now with Klinsman at the helm I love this team!!

I would love to see Germany play Brazil in the finals. Sweden will be tough but after watching the Poland game, then the 3-0 rout of Equador I think Germany will win.

    Prediction Germany 1-0 Sweden.

I can see why this would be the case... I look at their web page sometimes before Sweden - Germany clashes, quite funny. "Tyskland i åttondelsfinal skulle vara en svensk mardröm." Well let's hope so. :D

This is Zlatan's chance to make a mark on this World Cup. His performance have been subpar this whole season and it's showed so far for Sweden.

But if his injury is healed I think this could be his breakout game of the Cup; Germany's defense is anything but solid and has shown weaknesses against some easy teams. Physically I think they are more than able to mark Larsson and Zlatan but they have been prone to lapses in concentration and little mistakes.

Germany's offensive momentum should more than make up for any defensive troubles they are having but I think this game will still expose their weaknesses at the back.

Re: Official Germany vs Sweden PRE Match Thread [R]

Klosser is brilliant, but I too think ENG with its slower match pace and antiquated long ball tactics would have been an easier opponent for GER than the more versatile SWE team.

I see three potential Round of 16 upsets, and this is one of them, though the least likely of the three in my opinion.

I see AUS over ITA as likely and ECU over ENG as possible. SWE over GER is possible but unlikely.

The rest of the Round of 16 matches are either dead even pairings that could go either way and wouldn't be deemed an "upset" no matter which way they go (FRA v ESP; NED v. POR) or obvious certain blow outs (ARG v. MEX; BRA v. GHA; SUI v. UKR).

I think GER v SWE will be the most exciting in the upcoming round. Good luck to you whichever side you support.

    Cheers,

    - Diego

Re: Official Germany vs Sweden PRE Match Thread [R]

If Germany defeats SWE, and ARG in the quarters, they are guranteed a birth in the final. I see no competition from GER from the rest of their grid.

Their opponent is anyone's guess. The other grid has far better teams overall. Were I to guess, I would say the most likely final if GER survives SWE then ARG would be GER v. either ESP or POR. I think BRA beats GHA and then is retired by ESP.

    Cheers,

    - Diego

That's one match. None of those players are what they used to be. Ronaldinho played badly in the CL final, but that doesn't mean he will play badly against Ghana.

He has been very disapointing. Exemplified by the amusing moment against Trinidad & Tobago where he dribbled the ball out of bounds without being pressured.

Yes definetly. Certainly this is a new test for Germany, and it is a bit of an unknown how they will fare. Sweden can do it.

Let me put my guess: 1-0 in extra time for Germany. Because of the crowd, since I saw in the yahoo weather forecast it's gonna be a battle in the heat,,,

Re: Official Germany vs Sweden PRE Match Thread [R]

    Germany has the better offense,
    Sweden has the better defense,

Still very close tho...it seems to me that if this game is tied at the end of full time (very likely), it comes down to the goalies...

How are the goalies for Germany and Sweden? Who has the advantage?

Prediction: Germany 3 (OT Penalty) - 2 Sweden

That would make things tough on the offense, but it's at the Allianz Arena and I believe the roof can be closed if they choose to. I hope it will be closed, not only do it make it easier on the attack but also the enclosed stadium will only add to the atmosphere.

From now on, the World Cup truly begins, it's win or go home!

Re: Official Germany vs Sweden PRE Match Thread [R]

    Probable teams:

    Germany (4-4-2): 1-Jens Lehmann; 3-Arne Friedrich, 21-Christoph Metzelder, 17-Per Mertesacker, 16-Philipp Lahm; 19-Bernd Schneider, 8-Torsten Frings, 13-Michael Ballack, 7-Bastian Schweinsteiger; 20-Lukas Podolski, 11-Miroslav Klose

    Coach: Juergen Klinsmann

    Sweden (4-4-2): 1-Andreas Isaksson; 3-Olof Mellberg, 4-Teddy Lucic, 5-Erik Edman, 7-Niclas Alexandersson; 6-Tobias Linderoth, 9-Fredrik Ljungberg, 21-Christian Wilhelmsson, 16-Kim Kallstrom; 20-Marcus Allback, 11-Henrik Larsson

According to the tabloid "Aftonbladet" the starting lineup will be as follows: (take it with a grain of salt...)

    -----------------Isaksson----------------
    Alexanderson--Mellberg--Lucic--Edman
    -----------------Linderoth---------------
    -----Jonsson--------------Ljungberg---
    ----------------Källström---------------
    -------Larsson--------Ibrahimovic------

So the same starting lineup compared to the England game, but wiith Allbäck being replaced by Ibrahimovic, who seems to have recovered from his injury.

I would rather see Wilhelmsson instead of Jonsson, since I think Wilhelmsson has been much more agressive and better overall than Jonsson, who I thought was the "weakest link" against England.

    Likely subs:
    Wilhelmsson (if Jonson starts)
    Allbäck
    Elmander
    A. Svensson (for Källström if he does not perform)

Jonsson? Should definitely be Wilhelmsson or Elmander (my choice). Allback should start ahead of Zlatan who has done **** all.

    Germany 1 - 1 Sweden

The latter win on penalties, Isaksson the hero.

Nope, of the WC venues, only the stadiums in Gelsenkirchen and Frankfurt can close their roofs.

    ----------------Ballack
    ----Schweinsteiger----Schneider
    -----------------Frings
    Lahm---Mertesacker--Metzelder---Friedrich

It's gonna be HOT. The team that paces oneself best is going to win. I hope it's germany, but I have my doubts. Especially Friedrich is the weak point. Ljungberg shouldn't have any problems with him

Hopefully the game will not be decided by the ref. That´s the only thing I fear.

The best team may win, both teams fighting to their best and giving us a big show.
