If he goes to Dallas they will need our allocation. So there is still the possibility of trade for Vaca or another Dallas player.

How come NAC released him? I thought he was their captain!

    FEAR

I wonder if he has overcome his fear of flying?

Let me start off by saying that Stewart has long been of my favorite players. A true class act.

That being said, he better pick Dallas.

ESC should start composing songs about Yvonne if she chooses DC.

that and he put it into his contract, which has been continually omitted of late in most of the articles

and i'm not sure how official it is when the source is his old club... at the end of the quote from the first poster in this thread

oh, i'm sure earnie will be here, but don't mind me while i wait for another source to step forward (and i don't mean mls, although they would suffice)

Do you mean he will be here for the 2003 season, or NEXT season 2004? I can't wait for him to arrive in MLS, he will only make the elague better and give it more credibility. With that said, he could make Dallas a very dangerous side and aerly favorites to win the West.

    Re: Re: FEAR

Earnie actually did have quite a fear of flying, which, any true follower or supporter of the national side would know. "oooh Kasey, wear my NYPD shirt........." ;)

    And he has conquered it.

Yes, he apparently overcame that few a few years ago. His travel to and from Europe for USMNT games helped.

    Earnie Stewart

Earnie is a double class act

In adition to being the player we all respect, for his skill, tenacity, and superb attitude, he and his representatives were able to talk NAC out of charging a huge transfer fee, to which they are legitimately entitled, to MLS.

NAC settled for just being able to take his approx 500K salary off their books.

Some Background. In order to compete with clubs like Ajax, currently ranked #12 in ESPN's top 25 Club teams, the second tier Dutch clubs, of which NAC is currently placed 4th in the Eredivisie, need to spend srious money for their key players.

Ajax has a 50 million dollar budget and a 50,000 seat stadium, in Hollands largest city, Amsterdam, population 1 million plus.

NAC Breda is in a 100,000 plus population city wth an aprox 15,000 seat 'Fuji" stadium, and its budget is about a third of the Ajax Budget, sort of like the NY Yankees and the Oakland A's budgets, by comparison,

By desiring to be competitive, NAC bought a couple of 'A' players, but the recession, post 9/11, which is worldwide has affected ticket sales, sponsorship renewals etc, placing NAC into a financial bind, Some report their debt is around 5 million euros. (Ajax debt is 26M Euros)((prety much like many of us are down a few grand on our credit cards))

The KNVB, Dutch soccer governing body, has very tough financial responesbility standards and actually has the power to deny any club a 'license' to 'play'. They do in fact put clubs out of business, or relegate them, it is a no-nonsense deal.

Earnie did an outstanding job in Holland, putting togeyther 50 goals and more than 50 assists in some 200 odd games, making him a 50% score producer, a very big number in top European soccer.
As a poijt of reference, look at the scoring production of the key strikers in the premier league, where you will find huge famous name players producing 20 to 30% per season, meaning in a hundred games, they score or assist 20 or 30 times.

It would be a dream, if Earnie wanted to come to NY to fill the right mid slot - and whereever he goes - we wish him the very best

Since I'm only an American fan, and former youth player in the legendary and storied s'Hertogenbosch, system, a name which i know will trip right off your tongue, I may not have gotton all the facts right, as some info comes from soccer magazines, so corrections, if any , are invited.

Meanwhile, we will have a terrific and very entertaining soccer star among us - YES!

Big words from someone who witnessed that at his FIRST roadtrip for the team. "Oooh Veronica, sign my chest."

    And it was FDNY, jackass.

What can I say? LaStort has nicer tits than Julia Stiles. I just know my limitations.

Yeah, it's all part of growing/sobering up. I used to stand in GS screaming my balls off like an idiot for the Jets as well. I now realize how silly I acted on Saturday.

Cut salary max Balboa and take salary max Stewart with allocation would be simple math if there really was a salary cap for MetroStars A no-brainer here.

I'm thinking Celo won't be back for maximum salary. We need depth, and veteran depth off the bench, I'll take him at a slashed rate.

We don't need another forward, Earnie never really was a winger, his crossing was/is subpar. I'd rather take a stud like Vaca.

There's an interview with Gazidis here explaining how this will work:

So it's basically up to Stewart at this point. If he decides to go to Dallas, will Hudson decide to screw us over Eski? This is getting interesting. Also, Wolff to KC is pretty much a done deal. If we do get our hands on Vaca and DC picks Eski with the #1 pick who do we draft? We still need a 3rd forward.

I would trade Ritchie Williams for another draft pick and then use our #2 pick on Ricardo Clark.

If we're drafting a 3rd forward and Alecko is gone then I think these would be our top 4 choices.

    Nate Jaqua
    Knox Cameron
    Pat Noonan
    Mike Tranchilla

Not all of these guys have said they are in draft, however.
