I think its funny that most of those predicting doom and gloom do not even have "DC United" as their favorite team under their user name... hmmm you guys lack confidence in EVERYTHING here?

On a serious note though, why would anyone try to lecture THESE (myself included!) fanatics on being rational? Rational people do not stand in thunderstorms when the stadium is being virtually evacuated...

I am completely irrational when it comes to football.

Hey, the first step is admitting you have a problem, right? Unfortunately, I haven't gotten past that point. But I do have a problem.

    GO DC !!!

    As well you should be.

Did DC 'turn the corner' last week? I think I've seen them turn 6 or 7 corners this season. Only to go right back.

But I, too, am irrational, and optimistic.

They are off the schnyde (Gene Hart fans, rejoice!), and will put the Revolution down.

BudWiser, you're Etch666 aren't you? Seriously. I haven't seen Etch666 post in ages, and you use ALL CAPS like he does and ARE VERY PESSIMISTIC except when it comes to ETCHEVERRY and MAYBE MORENO.

0-0. NE, unlike SJ, is gonna have some motivation to play. So are we. About 12 yellows and a red for each team, a bunch of missed chances on our part, a bunch of dives on Twellmans part. Ugly as far aesthetics go, but a fun one to watch because of the passion.

BudWiser has said that he is in fact TPFKAEtch666 (The poster formerly known as Etch666), so he's not trying to be sneaky or anything.

Should I break out my miniditka prediction for this one?

MY GOD!!!! I wish everyone would stop bickering and picking on Etch666 and Sormun. Its not like they don't have some valid points, we've sucked for 3 straight years. Of course they are right we are as unrational as could be about thinking we can make the playoffs. (Nothing wrong with that of course);)

But to be fair, I've seen more pessimistic fans of the Redskins during the championship run, or the Yankees than we have in general. By that I mean, even when the Skins were 11-5 you'd still get 10-15% that would say, "there's no way we are that good, we won't win it all"...blah blah blah. Here we are in dead last and we're all saying, "we're going to turn the corner and get into the playoffs and then watch out MLS!" For me to see that only two ppl out of 40 or so that are truly down on this team completely isn't that many considering that we SUCK.

And please everyone get off your high horses, just because they don't share our same views of the team doesn't make them less a fan. I'm goddamn sick of this attitude that you must follow the corporate line in order to be a DC fan. Unless you're rah rah rah you aren't a fan. Whatever.

Everyone knows that Phillies and Yankees fans are generally recognized as the best in baseball, yet they are as quick with a boo of the home team as anyone. Why? Because the give a damn, more of a damn than say Os fans who feel so pleased with themselves to be at Camden Yards than to care if the team is any good (its all gravy, right?).

Personally I get a chuckle from reading Sormun. Why? Because he is a dose of reality when the rest of us go into Manic Mode. Maybe he would still be disappointed with United even if we were running away with the league title and cruising through the playoffs, but hey, some ppl think unless u win every game you are not infallible. Its a matter of opinion, but doesn't make them less passionate, or less worthy to be called fans.

For United it's time to fix bayonets and go over the top. We can beat all these teams, but unfortunatly we also have a knack for looking horrible on the road.
Like my Barra brother Chico I think the return of Olsen and the addition of Q2 have helped. In my heart of hearts I have a feeling Jamie will rattle the net. 2-1 United

2-1 to the Revs. Twellman scores twice. DC pulls one back after Rusty Pierce reinjures Olsen and is shown red.

Yes I was etcheverry666 as Lowecifer said I said that in one sentence on some no-big-deal thread

AND YES IT'S TRUE I LIKE TO USE ALL CAPS WHEN I WANT TO EMPHASIZE A POINT ;)

I had the name for 2 years. I'll remember "treasured moments" I had under that name, sometimes to some posters' dismay, including my favorite "Introduction to El Salvador" that was going to break the record for views if some El Salvadoran didn't come in and start complaining about it (he said "it pains me deeply"...) and got the thread locked

I picked the name because I played center midfield and was astonished by Diablo's play in center midfield. I didn't think I'd post more than say 20 times on this board I could pretty much care less about it didn't think I'd get much past my initial speaking to poster "mikemeg"

I dropped it because it makes some people assume I'm Hispanic and I'm not-I don't want to misrepresent. But the main reason I dropped it is the poster "weasel" kinda made me start thinking Diablo has been terrible why do I keep supporting him, and the poster "DCU" asked me the question "when are you gonna stop supporting Etcheverry?". I started questioning my support. Next game I was right next to Diablo and I saw him take a corner that couldn't even go over the one-man wall, and it was the last straw. I said to myself "there is no way I'm gonna support Diablo anymore". I'm actually on record now saying Diablo and Moreno should go, as I've said on a post-game thread a few games ago I HAVE HAD IT (caps to emphasize!!)

That Moreno missed "sitter" at San Jose STILL TO THIS DAY MAKES ME SICK. MR MORENO HEAR ME I HOPE YOU READ THIS POST IT MADE ME SICK!!!!

So I contacted "Huss", a BigSoccer admin and the conversation went kinda like this:
Me: "I went to the game saw Diablo play like ... I can't support him anymore can I change my name to ....."
    Huss: "Sorry name's already taken."
    Me: "OK how about budwiser?"
Huss: "You do realize you spelled the name wrong-it's budweiser"
Me: "Yeah, but I mean bud.. wiser... get it?? Make it BudWiser so people don't get confused"

Anyways I got off topic (it's like I'm writing an obituary on etcheverry666 but hey it was 2 good years of wasting time at work ) not too many care so back to the game...my prediction:

    New England 2
    DC United 1

I suppose to be a true fan to some I should choose a DC win but ya know what? An inability to recognize the truth about one's own team doesn't make one a fan...it makes one a brain dead follower. Why post if you're gonna say DC's gonna win EVERY SINGLE GAME IT GETS BORING TO HEAR THAT. We have not won ONE GAME ON THE ROAD the ENTIRE YEAR what makes you think it's going to change other than an inability to "handle the truth" as Jack Nicholson said in that Marine movie

That said, we may win because of the "MiniDitka" so don't get on my case if we actually happen to win I will say the "MiniDitka" was out in force

BudWiser, I wasn't trying to mock you or pick on you or anything. I just neglect to read posts sometimes and thought I had a Woodward and Bernstein-like moment.

I hope we win. Wait, I won't be able to watch it, so I know we'll win.

Phillies fans? No way in hell. Being obnoxious does not = giving a damn. Those fans care more about making a spectacle of themselves than what happens on the field.

The reason the atmosphere at Camden Yards is so deadly is that there are too many DC/MoCo/VA lawyers and talking on their cellphones in the box seats to make any noise. The old hardcore Memorial Stadium types have been priced out of the market. There are more hardcore damn-giving O's fans than there are of the same kind of Yanks and Phils fans. Baltimore has been called the greatest baseball town in America by more than one writer on the topic, although I'd say that St. Louis would have to be considered a co-great.

    but I digress... :D

    1-nil to United

I wasn't thinking that at all

Soccer is just a stupid game, it's a joke. Therefore, teams that are in soccer, like DC United, are even more of a joke. Therefore, boards that talk about those teams, like this DC United board, is even more of a joke. Therefore, posters that make up the board, are the biggest jokes of them all because they spent time talking about a joke that's part of a joke that's part of a joke.... ;)

I'm making your head spin, but that's just another part of this BigSoccer joke.....

I don't take this stuff seriously at all, I don't know anything that anybody could say on this board that I would take personally enough to get upset

People that take themselves seriously on this board need to recheck themselves. I've never had a signature (except when I got a yellow-"Please don't spoil results")-but I've been thinking of making mine "I can already tell you're taking yourself too seriously"

    Back to the game...

NE 2, DC 1. Jaime gets a #2 Value Meal from McDonald's as a pregame meal. In the game Jaime misses another sitter, spits, and feels sorry for himself. Olsen runs out of gas. Convey seems lost. Some poster come on this board saying "we can still make the playoffs!" The next pre-game thread 95% of the people predict we will win

Seriously I don't want to come across the wrong way to anyone...

I have lots of fun reading this board. I greatly appreciate the effor the mods and the posters put into it and give my heartfelt thanks. My opinion is no better than anyone else's and vice-versa-to me that's what makes "BigSoccer" best nobody's ever really right or wrong

Hey after 2 years as a poster I feel I get to make a speech about it. I'll get off the "soap box". This is my LAST POST on this "official" thread which I can already tell a mod would tell me probably doesn't need speeches because it's "offical"....so don't PM me mod....that's it for "etch666" nobody ask me any more questions ever again about it at least not on this thread it's done over history like a Boston Red Sox season before it's started

Last word from me on this thread....
NE 2, DC 1 as Zambrano doesn't score and Hudson looks like his eyes are popping out as his team solidifes its place as the worst in MLS

Oh, like this is going to stop me on my rampage of righteous fury against "Posters That Say Things That Upset Revelation And Generally Annoy Me!" I will now consider it a mission to get BudWiser (if that is your real name) to "care so much about what other posters think that he can't sleep if someone disagrees with him!" ;)

Back to the serious matter, DC United must win against New England. If the team loses then we'll be home in October. If last week against the team formerly known as the Clash was not a fluke, then DC United beats the Revs in a thrilling dominating fashion. If the "lads" don't show that determination then it's over!

I do predict that if DC wins 95% of posters will be estatically predicting that United will win the MLS Cup. If DC loses, 95% of posters will be willing to trade most of the team for a 6 pack of Michelob Lite and a moldy bag of Utz Salt n Vinegar Chips. :)

Well we're now 9 points behind the Metros and 8 points behind the 8th playoff spot (Chicago) so beating New England is a must. On the flip side, the Metros win probably deflated the Revolution as much as it did us. :(

Marco was just interviewed on the local Spanish radio station and said that the team is approaching the next four games as Champoinship games. "Every game from here on out is a Final to us" said El Diablo. "We will go all out to prove ourselves to the league and our fans" :D
