Items in gray will be updated once available or confirmed. No Flames • No Trolls DigitalTron - I hope you don't mind me hijacking your post and thread. See the explanation below. ------------------------------------------------- Alex Zotinca was just added to the KC Wizards as a Discovery player. He has been in MISL since 2000. Rongen had tried to sign this guy to fill our defensive holes (at Dmid) but a deal couldn't be worked out. Eventually he came to the US and played quite well in MISL. I wonder how good this guy is? He sounds a lot like Ivanov from the profile. http://www.majorleaguesoccer.com/content/03/kc0514zotinca.html -Digital
Official DC United vs. Kansas PRE Match Thread R perhaps Noticed this wasn't up and since it is Thursday I thought I'd start it. Maybe the own-goal against Spurs is the swing in luck we so definitely need... (I refuse to post the stupid "flames and trolls" warning, moreover I think the whole idea of an "official" thread is silly...) Its on Fox Sports World We need more fans to show up at RFK ------------------------------------------------- Mod's Note: Nothing edited. See explanation below.
... mod's note ... Thanks to Red&Black for setting up the official thread. I was too busy playing with my niece and nephew and forgot to do it. I wanted to merge the Zotinca thread into this one (because it's not really DC related except in relation to this game) but when I did so DigitalTron's post became the first post in the thread. So I added all the usual first post information into it instead of Red&Black's. Also, just a litte note in regards to Red&Black's comments. We instituted official threads several years ago (either 1999 or 2000) and I assure you that the quality of conversation before matches increased exponentially as a result. Before this we could have half a dozen to a dozen threads for a given match all discussing exactly the same things. (This was in the days before merging was possible.) We also had terrible troll problems then. When we instituted official threads it remedied both of these things. First, it concentrated and organized discussion. Second, by declaring the threads moderated above and beyond the TOS - now shorthanded with "no flames, no trolls" - it claimed for the mods the power to delete posts that were merely disruptive or annoying. All in all, I think we've reaped nothing but benefits from this institutions. Silly as it is ... ------------------------------------------------ I fully expect to lose this match. If that prognostication proves corrent, I also suspect we'll see some sort of major shake-up during our week off. I only wonder whether I should go to a PDL game I was thinking of attending that night or watch this match on TV live.
AHHH Knave! We DID beat a pretty good Spurs team at home the other night! --Keep off the negative vibes brother! DC 5- KC 0.... hehehe okay seriously.... DC 1- KC 0 (we will win because I am being forced to attend a friends wedding... it will be the first DC game I have missed in FOUR YEARS! We are also due for a goal by a defender... Nelsen in my book) p.s. if DC wins I will not return until they lose!!
i hope we are able to turn to the business at hand here. i think this is an important game for United. This is a winnable game (as have been all of them) and we need to get the job done at home. i think it is extremely important for the guys to get this to build some confidence and get some of the players who, in my opinion, might be pressing a bit too much. like mathis, preki can kill you in an instant if you lose focus on him. Simutenkov is also a tough guy to defend. klein can be a handful too. maybe meola will get distracted shaking the powdered sugar out of his hair...
Re: ... mod's note ... Red&Black ought to probably not post after the post match tailgate Dude, if you don't watch the match no one in socal may at all...
We kick their asses (I think I have said this every game so far!!!) 2-1. Tino and Earnie for us and Klein for them.
" It's Tony, hey Tony!! He got real big on burger and fries. Now he's down to a smaller size. He's a Subway man and a Jared fan. " Bring on Blubber Butt!!!!!!! He is mine for 45!
Now that the scoring damn has been broken, I am truly hoping the flood will commence. United 2, bad guys NIL Mark
Taken from the Metrostars post game thread: I agree with sornum! Seriously, KC has the worst defense in MLS. DC beat a decent Tottenham Hotspur team. Here is a chance for DC United to get some seriously needed points and close ground on the MLS East leaders. The next three games after Kansas City are against Dallas (away), Chicago (home), Colorado (away). The team is starting to click and the addition of Ivanov on defense will do wonders for DC United's attack, i.e. Nelsen will have more freedom to roam to the opponent's goal. The floodgates will open : DC United:3 Kansas City:1
In 1996, the Kansas City Wizards won both games at RFK Stadium against DC United. I did not attend those games. Since then the Wizards are 0-5-2 against DC United at RFK Stadium. I was at all seven of those games. I'll see y'all on Saturday. Sigh. Go Wizards!
Stat wise, you can't argue the fact. They've given up a lot of shots on goal as well, which doesn't help. What can be said though is that the back line is getting better and played pretty damn well last night. Only an offside goal caused them to give one up. I'm terrible at predicting games, so I wont try that. What I can say is that KC can score. They lead the league in goals. I'd be surprised if they are held scoreless, except to say that Preki is our life line and he will be tired in his 3rd game in 8 days. I've seen DC play three games. After the opener in KC I came over here and said they had changed my mind and they would be a scary team. Then I saw them draw two games 0-0, and my opinion went back to what it was before. Since the opener DC has scored one goal, so technically two goals would be opening the "floodgates". All I can say is that I hope the game is more exciting than last years 0-0 draw (Meola saves two PKs).
I think we might have the advantage on Saturday. While the Wizards played a full MLS game Wednesday night... 110 minutes... United played 92 minutes with much of their players playing little over a half. Eskandarian got to taste blood again last night, which could prove well. Bobby flexed his muscles for us also. And if Nicky played like he did against the Spurs during our first game against KC, then the Wizards would have 3 fewer points, and DC would be sitting pretty on 6 points. It's looking good I'm predicting a 0-0 tie
This is a must win for DC....They are falling to far back of the pack in the east. So I see a 2-0 win for us. Husdon better have them revved up for this one. OH yeah - don't let Preki go left.... -The Far Side
Stats, that was all I was basing my statement on. But you know what they say about stats! Additionally I was going to predict a DC 3-2 win, but DC's defense and Rimando's strong game last night against a decent team, made me adjust KC's final tally, i.e 1 intead of 2 goals. By the way, I am terrible at predicting games myself, but someday I'll get it right!
I think we might actually have a chance for this one. I don't know how, and I don't know why. I just do (maybe it's because of Andy).
Andy, stay home I think this will be a tough match for the Wizards. They didn't look particularly sharp last night and gave up too much possession to NE throughout. Our record at RFK as Andy points out is not good either. We have to come out and play well early (like against Dallas last week). Some of our better players looked really tired last night. Especially Preki and Klein. As Ben said our back three is improving every game so might not be as easy to break down as you think. One thing is for sure, if we score, we'll give you a goal back. We've been kind like that all season. My prediction: 2-2. (Quill and Brown for KC. Probably two og's for you lot!!)
