First MLS game I get to see this year via the Shootout. Gut wrenching for DC United. Massive mistake by Rimando. If all the matches are going to be like this, it should be an entertaining year.
Rimando (R) Does anybody know why Nick decided to suck tonight? First goal was entirely his fault, I have no idea what that was...Second goal, I won't blame him for and the Last goal again showed his weakness on crosses. And throughout the game he struggled so the question is, is Nick still injured? Cuz we struggling something awful tonight and I really expected better. This was bad not only for his standards but just goalkeeping in general...Hate to see the boys lose like this...
First game of the season...we did okay considering all of the injuries...plus marco played pretty well.
Which mistake by Rimando was the most massive. There were a bunch of 'em. And is it me, or do those uniforms make us look fat?
Had to see that coming the way the edn of the game was going. That's what you get for giving a 3rd minute goal.
Great effort after the 30th minute.. I wasn't too crazy about having all 11 players behind midfield after only 48 seconds of the game had elapsed.. United played much better when they broke out of that ultra-defensive posture and started moving upfield... For the first time in his short United career, this one goes solely on Rimando.. He was terrible tonight.. Soft first goal and and terrible whiff on the game winning goal.. Undeserved 3 points for KC.. Last season started exactly the same way.. I wonder how the boys are feeling now in the locker room.. If United come out next weekend at RFK with that 11 men behind the ball crap again, I will volunteer to run out and beat Hudson to a bloody pulp.. Frustrating, very frustrating.......

Argghhhh! With Namoff shaky in the back all night and Rimando looking Barthezesque (in the "go figure" sense), I guess it was inevitable. But have to say that that was one of the most brilliant Etch performances in the past few seasons. I was one of the first to suggest that he should have hung it up at the end of last season and boy did that make me look like an idiot. Olsen also put in a top-notch showing. Great to see those two back to full form. But we need to call 911 to shore up that back line until guys get healthy again.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this..... Do you guys still want to throw dirt on Marco yet? Fantastic match by El Diablo tonight.... The key now is consistency from him.. Let's see it next week as well...
Since I couldn't see any of the games, could somebody break it down for me please? Who was good? Who sucked? Anything in paticular to look forward to when I can see games (in 3 weeks)?
I definitely agree on Rimando's account, but aside from Namoff's brain fart (in letting Klein get behind him), the backline did themselves very well tonight.. Fantastic defensive efforts also from Convey on Klein (who was invisible save for his goal) and Kovalenko who blanketed Preki most of the night... C'mon Nicky, we need better from you......
Frustrating as heck. Etch and Olsen both looked good. Stewart had his moments. Rimando pretty much gave the match away. It was almost fun to watch. At least I'll get to see DC in two weeks out here in Colorado.
Olsen was good. Etcheverry had his moments. The defense, especially Chino, sucked big time. Stewart was quiet. Quaranta was pretty much stranded as a lone striker.
Very gritty and determined effort. No quit in those guys. Very Ray Hudson. You guys will be good this year.
While we're all criticizing Rimando...man, Convey had no impact on the match. I'm a huge fan of his, but he did nothing.
This was best summed up by the old English guy who sat next to me at my local pub and watched the match with me: "It's really shame. Your side deserved a draw. It's the overtime. That and a dreadful mistake by your keeper on the golden goal." We did play well enough for a draw and it seemed we lost steam toward the end, as if we weren't up to full match fitness. Also, as has been said, who expected Rimando to come out and make such key mistakes??? Etch did look very strong. He "poster"ized Jimmy Conrad on the second goal and earned several freekicks in dangerous areas. I'm truly dissapointed because we played well enough for a point. Ah, the agony of a new season!
Except shut down Chris Klein for most of the match.. Offensively, yes, not much from Bobby tonight but with United's defensive posture for most of the evening, it's not suprising he was MIA.. Klein is a pretty good defender in his own right...
Damn!! Armando....He was terrible. It was his fault that United lost. Peki...had a good solid game. The left and right backs...Chino commits to many fouls. Olsen...He was the man of the match in the 2nd. He was beating players, hustling(as usual) , shooting...He was causing havoc all night long. I'm now an Olsen fan. Etch...He was great , his old legs were dribbling around defenders, assisting , controling the game. Tino....had that goal and that was it; nothing else Convey...was he playing? Though he had a good sneaky pass to Etch for the 2nd goal. Stewart had a decent game..playing D , contributing on O. Though i would like to see him more upfront. Kolenko..whatever.: He was ok. Preki ate him up a couple of times though.
We deserved a result tonight, no doubt about it. I hope Rimando learns something from this. I remember the last game last season (vs. Dallas) when I found myself having a few concerns about him, and now I remember why. He really can't afford to make mistakes like that, he doesn't have the size or skills to cover them. Still, it's the first game, so no need to panic. I hope they take the good things from this game (which they should be bringing at least a point from) and build on them. Nice to see Etch playing well. Ditto for Ben. Can't wait to get the injured corps out on the field. I'm trying to be positive here. Don't burst my bubble...
And this is definitely what we needed from him. With such a shaky backline we needed Convey to focus on defensive responsibilty. C'mon, we got two goals on the road with a shorthanded squad! It wasn't lack of offensive output that lost the match.
i'm impreased This game showed two things. One D.C. can score goals, and that D.C.'s Mike Pekte is a good player. D.C might have lost. But they have potential to win. Lets hope they pull win the opener.
