DCU-Columbus [R] Match is scheduled for 5pm Saturday. No time like the present to start a thread, eh? My prediction: pain! That, and at least one goal.
Well we played Lyn University and beat them, but the Crew just demolished them 7-1. If that's any indication, this should be a good test for our defenders Nelsen, Ivanov, Petke and the supposedly out of form Reyes. Frankly, I'm a bit skeptical that our defense will be as good as last years. Aside from Reyes, everything has changed. The Crew--with or without McBride--have the most potent offense in MLS I think. Hopefully the Crew will play their "A" game. But I don't expect them to show us anything, as we're both in the Eastern Conference. The result is meaningless, but it would be nice to stress test our defense. -Tron
Dwight Burgess is with the Crew down in Florida. I wonder if they're webcasting the game (I can hope can't I). Nothing about it on the Crew site or eagle1039. It looks like MLS is going to have a matchtracker going, however.
Ivanov ejected. Two yellows in 3 fouls. Tripping and shirt pulling. So much for his exceptional composure and positioning. At least that's the way it seems from the decidedly minimal information Matchtracker gives you. Hope things improve.
Buddle scores..2-0 Crew after 32 min. Of note, Ivanov with a yellow for shirt pulling, and Prideaux subbed out after 30 for the Russian guy.
The trialist forward comes in for Brandon Prideaux. Interesting move considering that DC United has just lost a defender.
goal cunningham, unassisted. which means he got the ball, put his head down and ran at the defense ignoring all other players on the field and this one time he actually made it through the defense and on to goal...
DC finally pressures the goal just before halftime, as both Olsen and Petrov have recently forces Busch to saves.
If we've learned one thing from the Washington Redskins, it's that preseason results have absolutely no bearing on those of the regular season.
