did i just waste 2 hours of my night? i did. that was a really bad overall display by both teams. i will say that convey is looking more and more impressive, he looks very comfortable out there and although i would love to see him in the middle of the field for the national team...it just doesn't seem like there is room for him. too bad for that, hopefully the left back experiment works out. anyway, that was a bad display of soccer.
Well, the piece of chocolate cake I ate in the first half was pretty good. Other than that .... We didn't lose. Alecko didn't die in that collision. Kenny Stern is a d-head. Get ready for the Rapids.
A Sport for Wusses? That knock Eskadarian took was gut wrenching. I know he is young, but they should not have let him continue. Does anyone know his condition? If he is okay, that drop has to make all the highlight films. I thought he broke his neck.
A request ... Can someone who saw the disallowed goal in person please say exactly what happened. In particular who was offside and how was the play restarted? They didn't show the restart on FSW or FSC.
TRUE!! I could have went to the Olive Garden tonight. Now I gotta settle for Popeye's!!! Damn!!! Watching on Fox Sports was even worse, well at least the two knucklehead announcers. They were hacks on the mics like the hacks on the field. A night of Hacks!!!
yeah that knock was bad, commentators said something about a possible concussion but we'll wait and see the official diagnosis. Overall not a good game, I think the best chance for D.C was in the first 5 minutes from Etch.
bleah!!! I really wanted to see Diablo shoot at the end, instead of that cross to a Fire defender. If we keep up this level of play then it will be another long season. We looked disjointed more than anything. Maybe (I hope) we just need a couple of more weeks to work out the kinks.
Re: A Sport for Wusses? More knocks like that and he'll start thinking Washington's not on the East Coast. Wait...that already happened.
I wasn't at the game, but they showed a replay on Foxs Sports net. When the ball was played to the guy on the left flank he was about a step off. It was the right call, but it did seem kinda late. They missed the restart because of the replay so I didn't see that.
A friend of mine called from the game. Our conversation went like this. Him: "what happened?" Me: etch headed it into the goal Him: No, why did they disallow the goal? Me: Disallow the goal? My tv says 1-0 for the good guys Him: The goal was disallowed and restarted immediately from inside the goal box I concluded offside on the far side of the field, which had nothing to do with the play, after watching replay
Can I have my 2 1/2 hours back please? The big guys really abused the little guys, didn't they? Fans of both sides can look forward to this at least 28 more times. BTW, the offside was on the pass to the wing.
I thought Nelsen played the ball straight to Etch in the middle of the field, and the winger was off, but not involved in the play
Nelsen played the ball to a player on the wing, likely Q2. Q2 then swung it in to Marco. FSW showed the play from a pretty good angle and Q2 was clearly two steps offsides when Nelsen made the pass. Although I argued repeatedly in the chat room that we wuz robbed, having seen the play several times now from the better angle, it's clear that we wuzn't robbed.
I disagree with most of the posts. If you wanted an ugly game you should've checked out the Metro-Laxative match. That was ugly. This match I thought DC played with an intensity I haven't seen a good long while. The scoring will come. But everyone seems to be going all out the entire match. Kovalenko brings a fire that is fantastic to watch. I was pleased with the performance, would've liked some goals though. james
BTW, apologies to those in the chat room for my mistake. My rose colored glasses are now off. In their place, are my beer goggles.
Hear, Hear. We played Chicago off the pitch. Next week is our week. Good crowd, too. Good crowds everywhere, they fuckin' sold out Spartan! Although I wasn't a fan of the high pitched screams of the Koreans every time Bo touched the ball in the swamp.
Um, since he made the assist to Etch, he damn sure WAS involved in the play. That was the worst MLS match I've seen in years. The players did a horrible job of creating space to receive passes, and players were very sloppy with the ball. Man, what a contrast to the Crew-Rev match, which was pretty high quality. But the players were better than the announcers. I'm not the type to bitch and whine about them, I'm normally just glad the game was on TV. But they were distractingly bad, they even distracted me from the wretchedness on the field. They constantly misidentified players. It was comical how often they confused Big Q1 with Teeny Tiny Q2, I mean it was constant. Stewart and Kovalenko were misused, I thought. I really didn't like our tactics today. At times players were bunching like a U-8 games, at other times, players would hold and hold and hold, but nobody would make himself available. I remember Olsen, in particular, holding off two Fires several times, waiting to lay the ball off or get off a cross, until finally he got the ball taken away. And who was the playmaker? It seemed like players kept forcing the ball to Etch and Convey, instead of making the simple pass to an open player. And Etch and Convey got in each other's way too much. It was almost like they were both trying out for the team and trying to do more to impress the coach. Also, Rimando's punts kept finding Curtin's head, they were useless. I don't understand why, at halftime, we didn't make any kind of adjustment to that. Oh yeah, and the ref...1 absolutely 100% clear PK not given on a cross, and another that would have been a PK more often than not. Yech. Other than all that, it was a great game.
I enjoyed the game from my beer contented haze in sec 232. FWIW our defense was good against the punchless Fire. DMB never created that much danger and their best chance may have come from Armas foray into our end. I didn't notice any mistakes from Rimando who really had very little to do all night. We gave away some dangerous freekicks just outside the penalty area. Good for us Razov was red carded last week and couldn't take the kicks. Scary collision between Esky and Convey. Hope they're both OK. I thought we lost focus at the end when Olsen appeared to take a dive (or embellish some minor contact) after a Chicago defender shepherded the ball out of bounds. Etch got carded in the ensuing bickering and then gave up a dangerous foul to Armas just in front of our area. The apparently offsides goal definitely involved Quintanilla crossing to Etch who sprinted onto that header much faster than I remember him running last season. Too bad, but Etch has now brought plenty of intensity to the first 2 games. Defense = good. Offense = weak. Opponent = weak It'll be a long season if we can't results at home against teams of Chicago's caliber.
Beasley is a pussy. No way there should have only been 4 min. of stoppage time in the 2nd half, and thats just the start of the bad reffing.
