Though this thread was posted before the game ended....

DCU sounded anemic. Sounded like a good goal from Etch for Q2 to finish. Other than that, oh dear.

Good showing from the Battery, watch out for us if we meet up in the USOC. we should have finished a couple of those sitters. Seemed to be a problem last year as well. Defence was solid and didn't seem to tested. Our midfield is quite new but Chrono looks like he will be starting. Now if I was only in Charleston I could head up to the pub and have a couple beers.

Not too bad for you. Who is Echavery's replacement if he goes down or is out of form? I think you might be depending on him a bit too much. Still add Convey, Stewart and the others I don't think you guys will be too bad, a slow start maybe.

Hopefully Convey would replace Etch and Esky, Eliseo or Namoff would play the left wing position.

Thanks and props to the Charleston Battery for having DC United down for the match (paying our expenses!@!#!$!%!:D), and allowing us to listen on your webcast. You guys are awesome! That's a class organization. Best of luck during the season.

I missed the webcast, but it sounds like a good game. I'd have been a little more confident if DC had dominated play ... but oh well, it'll take a while for our pieces to mesh.

    At least we won.

Good to see that Quintanilla seems to have significantly improved since last season.

Here is the local Charleston newspaper's take on the game with some quotes from Hudson.

check the match report in the link by Knave in a day or two. Last year the Battery posted video clips of all the goals a couple days after the match.

that report in the charleston paper must be the only time anyone has used the phrase "quick pursuing" in reference to Mark "feet of concrete" Watson.

"the Battery on Saturday night showed it was more than capable of holding its own against one of Major League Soccer's elite teams."

    Was it a double-header?

    Battery for MLS expansion?

Truly a class organization in every facet imaginable, and one that not only all A-League teams can learn from, but most MLS teams as well.

It's nice to read that DC United got a good result.

The new DC United uniform looks good.

But we did win and score a goal right?? Better than we did on the road last year.

I understand that but all last year we bitched about playing well but not scoring. We did not play well, scored, and won. I will take that happening 10-12 times this season.

For those who may not have gotten Jose's uniform humor, those are the old Away tops with black shorts, not the new uniforms. :)

The new Away uniforms are white shirts with black stripes accross the chest and down the sleeves, and red side panels. The shorts are also white with black vertical stripes down the outside of the legs (hips) with a small red flare just behind them. The Away whites essentially mirror the current home blacks except that there is no mesh, but its replaced by smaller red flares, and they added shoulder stripes down the sleeves.

Drove to Charleston for the match, not many of us there but Blackbaud is truly an impressive facility. The game didn't do much to help my uneasy feelings about the upcoming season however. It's suprising we got a result at all, wearing those old cursed kits. United did maintain some possesion, stringing together some good passes for portions of the match but still did not look near as sharp as we need to be to contend with our regular season foes. Namoff looked to be much improved and looking for a spot in the line up. I'm still not sold on Petke though, he still hasn't earned non-wanker status in my book yet. Tino will have to step up big time if he wants to secure that starting spot next to Earnie or whoever come April. He didn't do anything consistantly except get called offside. Seemed to get easily frustrated as I think Ray did with him. Not too much about the match but it wasn't that spectacular anyway. Watching this game I can't help but think Ray still has something up his sleeve. Well, we can hope anyway.

I don't think Etcheverry has a set replacement. The lineup will be shifted when he is out and he may lose his spot to a player performing better than him.

This is a little off topic, but since you're a Battery fan, do you remember Farris? Can't remember his first name but was just wondering because that is my friend's cousin. I believe he's stopped playing due to an injury.

    *dismissive hand wave*

And the USA only put out a draw against Richmond before leaving for Korea.

    Frankie says relax.
