Even if they don't fire him on Friday, Johnston is mentally so out the door. Based on that interview its clear that he doesn't think that anything he can do would change things anyway, so he'd only be coaching on pride. And can you imagine how the players feel? NYRB is ripe for the picking if there ever was a time.

I'm going to miss this one too. And the next one against Dallas.

I'll try to find ways to numb the pain...

With Saturday's match, that'll be 6 home games I've missed since opening day 1996.

If my kid brother hadn't decided to get married on a game day, I'd have been at 5. Some people have no sense of priorities.

In one sense, I'm kinda glad I've missed a few. Streaks are a lot of pressure. For the first four years I didn't miss a single match vs the Metros, home or away.

My highlight came in 2001. An ex-girlfriend got married and made me promise to be there. Me and my buddy bolted right after they cut the cake and showed up at the 10 minute mark in coat and tie. Of course we scored five minutes later and we got covered in beer. :D

I looked for ways to catch a red-eye from San Francisco, but I would have had to leave in the middle of the service. That would have been a problem, since I was singing in it. Anyway, the kid's only getting married once. I can miss a match for it.

EVEN IF THE MATCH WAS OUR 1999 PLAYOFF DECIDER VS. COLUMBUS!!! AARRGH!

    Greater love hath no man...

... that he should sacrifice something he loves dearly for his pipsqueak little brother.

I had Lisa call me on my mobile (set on vibrate) when we scored. I had to turn off my phone after a couple of times because it kept going off and startling me while I was ushering old ladies down the aisle. :)

I hope mentality we have is that we're loud and if we go down we're 2x louder and if we lead with 4 goals we can all sit down and take a break :D

    Show no mercy

I think Lucio will start. I also think he'll get a goal this week. He's been close 2 or 3 times so far and I see him breaking his duck at the Swamp. With another week of practice to breed familiarity, he and his teammates should start to gell.

He should also be familiar with the physical style of MLS by now and can expect the shirt pulling and fouling. The physical stuff can really take you out of your game if you're not expecting it or used to it.

Re: Official DC United @ New York Red Bulls PRE Match Thread

I'm actually believing that Fred will have a goal and an assist or two. He's been knocking on wood till now, so he's due. If we can manage a win while not playing nicked-up players (like Esky and Rimando) and giving Moreno and Gomito a 15 to 30 minute blow, it would be a major strategic victory. However, changing coaches has a way of inspiring players, so if Mo is gone, some players up to now only being perfunctorily professional may be revitalized.

Will it be time for the Amado song in jersey?

    A -- M -- A-D-O.
    A -- M -- A-D-O.
    A -- M -- A-D-O,
    Amado is an asshole!

No prisoners, United! Stomp 'em while they're down.

There's nothing more dangerous than a cornered animal that's fighting for it's life. If the RedBalls go in to this match with that mentality, this will not be a cakewalk. I would be very wary, if I were PN.

Decided to look at the RBNY board just now and they don't even have a thread on the game. Hell, they barely have any talk about the team and how it's playing now. If the fans are that distracted, the team surely is.

A coach that classy shouldn't be coaching that team anyway.

    I hope that's the case.

However, it might also be that by comparison, we on this board are just a teensy bit obsessive about discussing our team in excruciating detail.

Could you define, "excruciating"? Maybe you should make a new thread on it, if not a new sub-forum. :)

Fun aside, I do remember that they started a thread on the first game even before we did! Proof that truth is stranger then fiction.

We should have a poll to determine if we're obsessed.

Could you come up with a first-team lineup of the truly obsessed? Who would you have as substitutes?

talking about obsession. people asking for lucio to sit should quit it, simply because it is NOT going to happen. Wanna know why? Ask PN or tommy soehn. just don't bitch about it on this boards...

Yes, actually, I WOULD like to know why it is guaranteed not to happen. I was hoping you would tell me, but I guess I have to take my queries to PN or Tommy Soehn.
