Re: Official DC United @ Columbus In-Game PBP thread Fairly easy save, as PKs go. Not struck nearly wide enough. Rimando got both hands behind the ball. 41' Freddy free kick blocked by the wall.
I've already spent a good deal of time yelling at the ref via my TV. He's about as consistent as my crap after drinking the water in Mexico. Two tackles in the box, both almost identical, one is a penalty the other is no call. That's just the one big one. Typical MLS officiating. And lest we forget the one minute of stopage. What the hell was that. Note that he blew the whistle at 56 seconds while DC was on the attack.
The ref is calling a pretty tight game. We better be aware. 2 yellows for DCU, not too good. Especially since we have Dema with 45 more minutes and a yellow. I though Wilson got ball on that tackle. Oh well, hopefully we'll get one our way. Columbus seems to be leaveing alot of space in the middle. Hopefully, Gomez or Adu will take advantage of that. BTW- would that goal have gone in if Nana hadn't touched it? Looked like there was also Freddy at the back post.
In the quickie interview at the half, Harkes asked Wilson if it really should have been a penalty. Wilson: "I got some of the ball. And before the kick, I asked Wolyniec and he said it was clean." Nice class by Wolyniec to admit it.
OK..the speed racer GEICO commercial was funny. Desultory first half. No way Wilson should have been over on the left side covering. That was a pretty crappy PK to be straight. Hit Rimando right in the hands. Tough break on the offside call on Nana. He was doing the right thing and going for the ball. If he hadn't been doing that, it was a goal. Hard to fault a player for doing the right thing. Sachin
I see United has returned to form on the road: dominate posession, fail to finish. As much space as they're getting in the midfield, they should have scored in the first half.
I think the PK was for the scissor of the legs after Wilson got the ball. Some refs wouldn't blow the whistle if they think the attacker could never get to the ball. Wilson made sure. [referee hat mode] Just because you get the ball does not give a player carte blanc for subsequent mayhem. [/referee hat mode]
