Ha, I spent 3 months in Xi'an at the end of last year working. You need to know anything just message me. i.e, bars, half decent pizza, where you can buy cereals, good cheese, coffee (you'll miss these) etc.

I spent my first year of university studying Chinese at a university in Nanjing though, after a deferred a year from an Arts degree at the University of Sydney so I had at least some conversation Chinese in the bag. Unlike Shanghai, you'll find a large percentage of people in Xi'an don't speak English or are unwilling to. If I were you, I'd visit chinesepod.com!

Learn a little before (I'm going in February next year). Got a phrase book but I won't be relying on that :p
Got some friends who can teach me a little I hope.

I saw that last night so might have a look into it. Cheers for that, wouldn't mind knowing some of the bars 'n like :p And I need my coffee and cereal (not so much cheese ;)). Should be interesting I think.

How big is the problem outside of that Shenzhen incident? I'm sure that players would start quitting on the field if that happened in England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, etc.

3 rounds left and the only "battle" is for 2nd place , Beijing's win today means that they're on pace to take it. Shenhua has a make up game(?) againt Shandong and then in the final two rounds must play Dalian and then Liaoning (in Anshan), whereas Guoan has Changchun and then goes on the road to Xiamen.

Not that I really care, because unlike Shenhua fans, I understand that finished 2nd after having never been in contention for first really isn't anything to be proud of...But that's okay, Shanghainese are used to 2nd fiddle and mediocrity... :D

2nd place probably means a spot in AFC Champions league next year, in case Shandong beat Dalian in Chinese FA cup final.

Shanghai will have to beat Shandong to secure 2nd place, as there isn't many games left.

Also, we need to lend some of our key players to Shandong for them to beat Dalian ha ha ha

These two things must happen in order for Shenhua to appear in ACL again next year. I also recommend selling Li Wei Feng to the J-League or K-League. Perhaps to one of the good teams in J-League or K-League so that he can screw up for them when they play Shenhua in the ACL.

    ha ha ha

What an ass for Hao to say something like that. Some of these so-called "professional" footballers earn in a week what these migrant workers earn in their entire life times.

but on some level, I'd imagine there is truth to it. I mean, even here in the US, there are MLS players making less than $20,000 a year which puts them right around the "poverty line"...
