This will be an interesting match. Pretty much the same team that we put on the pitch 2 weeks ago. Only thing that im confused about is this. Is San Jose that bad or has DC turned it around so completely that they are that good. How can we possibly hang with San Jose in there house with a team that just got handed there colective arses. God know's Diego is not going to be the make or break for us cause his first showing left so much to be desired it's terrible. Here is to hoping that San Jose get's too full of themselves and we grab a 3 point result. Line-up that makes probably most sense.

    Busch
    Dunseth----McCarty-----Clark-----Denton(torres)
    Mais
    Paule------Walsh-------Garcia
    Bake-----Buddle

    Go Crew!!
Faith is somthing you gotta have!
Come on lads get it going!!

This is a game to gauge ourselves by. If we can turn it around against SJ, I'll write off our lousy performance to DC as an abberation. Let's just hope that's all that sh** was, because if it wasn't, we're in for a long season.

    Columbus 2
    Smurfs 0

*That would be a great outcome (please God)

Actually maybe all these pre-match stickies are bad luck.

    Close the thread.

    Nah, Eggy.

There's been a pre-match sticky since the opening match.

    don't forget to pass...

I just don't see us holding the quakes to zero goals. Spartan seems to bring out defensive breakdowns more than anywhere else for us. It will be interesting to see how Buddle and Mais have their fitness progress throughout the week, having those to back will definately help.

Jeff Bradley has us slated as "colorado" and we're going to lose 4-1 according to him.

I'm not going to say much about this game, as I'm holding my breath and waiting to see how the team responds to our results the last couple weeks.

SadJose is obviously always very tough playing at home on that bowling alley they call a field.

Great to see that even Bradley thinks we're gonna get stomped. Does anybody recall EVER seeing an MLS match predicted at 4-1?

Andrulis had better dig down deep, forget about being everybody's pal and get the job done.

What I think will happen though is that he will bunker down and try for a scoreless game for the rest of the summer. melloyello hit it: 0-0 is what we'll be AIMING for.

It will be the return of "Fitzdrulis": complete paranoia about losing, long balls to McBride who will take a relentless physical pounding, and giving up a late goal to lose 1-0.

I think either Bradley or Connolly predicted we'd beat Colorado 5-2 earlier this season.

We need Mais back at D-mid. Ever since he left that position we've struggled with ball control and Defensive shape. Beaker was OK - after a weak debut, but Paule didn't work and we've never worked McCarty there too much. Our Midfield shape has looked poor to me and our ball control shows SOME probelm.

Mais has never been a great winger. I have no idea why he was there vs. DC.

Any new news on Mais's ankle?

I hope to God I'm wrong, but I'll bet that's exactly what happens.

    MLSNet Injury Report:

COLUMBUS CREW – QUESTIONABLE: F Edson Buddle (R hip flexor) PROBABLE: M Brian Maisonneuve (R ankle sprain)

Also, TheCrew.com lists McCarty as "out" due to a knee sprain. Don't know if this is simply old info they haven't updated or something altogether new.

The Buddle question is, as Tom Daschle would say, "very troubling"

San Jose's Injury list is probably longer than ours still. But they have proved they can play/coach through it. God I have a negative attitude about this one.

mark it down, we're gonna get our doors blown off. In twelve games at SJ we've been outscored 27-19, and iirc, san jose has rarely been beaten at home in the last two seasons.

This is true Bill. However, the Smurfs home field is huge compared with the field the Crew played on at Ohio Stadium. Now that was small.

Well unless we plan on bring back the original 1996 roster, I'd say we have nothing to worry about..

    ...bring back Mario Gori!!

As I recall, there isn't THAT much difference. Ohio Stadium was smaller, but not by much, and in any case we went ahead and got OUT of there.

But maybe Chris is on to something: we could hit Spartan with Rob Smith, Stinky Pete Marino and Ricky Irrabarren.

How much worse could it be?

Hey, maybe the Crew can surprise us on Saturday. Come on, I can imagine it, SJ gets beat by the Crew. Sunday you guys are all talking about how you knew it was all just a very bad game, how its all up from here.... Yeah, that would be great. (Oh please, let this happen, please) God, we need a win, hell a tie would be nice (did I just type that?)

According to Tann's article on CSN Mais is week to week, and Buddle is more delicate than that but at 80%. Buddle still can't shoot the ball completely pain free, thats comforting.

Because I sure as hell don't feel like working I'll post for the third time in a row on this thread...my starting 11----------->

    ...........BMB.....West.........
    Garcia...Paule....McCarty...Walsh
    Torres...Dunseth...Clark....Akwari
    ............Busch

Now I habve heard that Ruiz iwas playing with the Guat national team this weekend, but I haven't heard that mentioned in line for Garcia. If Garcia is around he gets the start at left mid. I want McCarty playing as a deep D-mid, playing almost 5 in the back. I just don't trust our D at all right now, and it also scares me having inexperience (Walsh and Akwari) on the right side. I leave Mais on the bench, beacuse I am unsure of his health and I think he can be better utilized as an offensive or defensive sub for McCarty or Paule or Walsh as the game goes on. Denton can come on for Garcia or Torres if needed, and I have no idea who else could be of use off our bench, though I have a feeling Pareja will see more minutes this week somewhere.

This is gonna be an ugly defensive battle, I'd be ecstatic with a 1-0 win.
