Crew at San Jose - MLS Cup Preview?[R] Alright, I'm bored off my ass, and nobody is posting much of anything lately. Where did everybody go? Did you all get real jobs or something? Summer vacation? The games against the Quakes always seem to bring everybody back into the mood to argue moot points, so let's get to it. After 6 weeks of play, the Crew are still holding onto the lead of the Eastern Conf. However, all the other guys have a game in hand, so it's not as pretty as it sounds. San Jose is holding the 11 points as well, but from 1 less game and is claiming the top spot in the West. Could this be a preview of MLS Cup 2003? For arguements sake, sure, why not! Lando and McBride, the two marquee players here are leading their teams quite well this season after disappointing a bit last year. Of the two players, who is more valuable to their club? Brian Ching has been SJ's surprise of the season so far, but how many Quake fans are just delusional that this is not just a flash in the pan? Buddle is still sidelined with a leg injury, but Cunny seems to be getting more praise as the weeks pass. Will Buddle take the starting spot back from Cunny anytime soon? Busch and Onstad have both been having good seasons, who is the better keeper? Can Onstad drink more than Busch just because he's Canadian? Alright, that's enough questions to get your minds going and the debate started. Entertain me damnit! **note: if my spelling is wrong, leave it alone, you all get the point, and I already know I suck at spelling**
So far I've only seen this match listed on HDnet; is that the only TV outlet to catch this match? If so, the party's at Bill Archer's place.
Bring beer. Although nit might be closer to go to that place in the Arena district - Frog and Dildo or something.
So I noticed Toon, however, that has yet to become entertaining... Bill is always entertaining though, Frog and Dildo, funny stuff! As for the game: Anybody heard more from Buddle? What is causing his delayed return? How much of practice is he doing?
Apparently the injury is a bit worse than they initially expected. Nothing major wrong, just needs more time to heal. Greg said it was more of a 3-4 week injury than a 1-2 week one like they thought.
SJ in SJ always concerns me. Yallop has done a good job of putting a team out there designed to play on the small pitch. Overall SJ's backline is slow. Something the Crew would eat up usually, but it doesn't matter on that field because there's not a lot of space on the flanks where speed hurts teams the most. SJ uses that advantage, especially when the flank players get frustrated with not having space and move center. Then SJ through Donovan, Mullan and Logos exploit that space with a quick counter. In order to win, the Crew are going to have to be more patient then what they have shown this year and work the ball around the field like they did in the playoff game there last year. Martino and Mais are going to have to be on their game because much of the Crew attack is going to have to go through the center. Of course, Martino has the game Wednesday against Mexico with the U-23s so it will be interesting to see how he recovers from the midweek game. If they can get the ball to Cunningham with some space he'll burn those defenders and could have a game like last year's playoff series where he had like three assists. It will be hard though, Agoos seems back on his game and Dyak has been solid this year.
Keep in mind, that San Jose has only given up TWO goals so far this year, in 5 games. It certainly will be even tougher to score on them, when they play on that postage stamp sized field
Did I read that right? Is this game not televised on the Shootout? If that is the case, than that will make it two weeks in a row that the Dish Shootout hasn't shown a game. KC/DAL wasn't show this past weekend.
TheCrew.com is now showing the Shootout logo for the San Jose match (earlier it was just the HDnet logo) so Bill's place might make it through the weekend as long as Lefty's boys keep it under control.
It's only Monday; however, you never know with these cable systems. They may never advertise yet it will be shown.
Well. I just consulted the online channel guide for Dishnet and they list all of the games, except for the Crew/San Jose game, which I have to assume plays at 10:00 PM EST. Before I blew up and made a scathing phone call to Dishnet for false advertising, I double checked their site for the MLS Shootout advertisement. It says $49.00 for up to 120 games. Why they can't cover this one is beyond me. But what the hell can you do? Looks like my Saturday evening should be free, much to the joy of my wife.
Sonafabitch...I hope someone gets their act together and gets this one on shootout. It could possibly be the best game yet this season. ************. That said, I'd be very happy if the crew came outta SJ with a draw. I am not really confident of three points here. Granted the Quakes only tied Chicago this past week, but games on that field almost shouldn't count in the standings, they are a complete crapshoot. SJ has been excellent this season. You look at the fact that they have only given up two goals and then realize one was an own goal by Onstad and you just gotta shake your head. Our boys up top are gonna face their touhest test of the season. Martino is gonna have be be much quicker in seeing the open spaces. I'd be very pleased with a 1-1 draw.
I remember catching last season's 4-3 OT loss on the radio, mumbling the whole time about not being able to watch it. I hope it finds its way onto TV or else it's off to Frog and Dildo or whatever Bill called it.
Don't blame Shootout for not showing this match. The shootout only shows games that are picked up by some local TV station and makes them available nationwide through subscribtion. The real culprit is that no local Columbus station has stepped up to routinely pick up Crew away games this year. At least some people can see it through HDNet by going to that bar.
Whatever happened to the local cable channel picking up the game (TW 24/Insight 36)? Oh yeah, Central Ohio TV sport or something like that.
If this is the case, I feel much better. I hate being mad at Dishnet because they have been so good to me in the past. But I am really goind to hate missing this game. It just sucks that I will get the snoreball game of the week in Chicago/NE. I'd rather piss on my own head than watch that sh1t.
OK, somebody has got to pick up this game. Or I've got to get HDNet at my pop's place by Saturday. (Well, I sure as hell aren't going to be able to afford a HDTV set by Friday, that's for damn sure!) Damn biggest game of the year so far, and probably one of our toughest road games, and it's only on HDNet. BTW, based on the HDNet highlights of the Dallas game last weekend, soccer looks well-suited to HDTV. I love the wide aspect ratio, the appropriately non-zoomed-in shots, etc etc. I may have to get a HDTV D* receiver just to get the wide-angle games!
