The biggest adjustment has to be mental - he has to keep fighting and redouble his efforts next season.
The coach made a comment about Davies playing on the wing. He talked about these things: - That in the offense it works really well, he scored two goals (I thought it was one, but two sounds better so why not) in the reserve game like over a week ago and he did a very good job this Tuesday with the reserves again. - That he's a little bit unused to the cross situations. - That his defense isn't the best. Nothing really surprises you there.
Yes, it's hard. Given the cultural change, it is a bigger leap than going to MLS, which has been done successfully many, many times. I guess we just have different expectations for a player as hyped as Davis.
if we had 10 more failures like that, we could actually go to a WC with a possibility of winning something.
If Davis turns out to be capable of 30+ goals and assists for the USMNT, I will be very happy -- and a little surprised.
I am not all that big of a Landon fan but to say he is a failure is absolute crap. Disappointing, yes, on more than one occassion but take away the unfair pressure we have placed on him, he's been pretty damn good. I love to rag on Landon but usually it has more to do with his personality or lack there of!
Seriously. Donovan is frustrating because he tends to disappear, but the frustration is a function of his obvious talent. He's still, as far U.S. players go, a pretty damn good player.
In 25 league appearances, Landon Donovan has 8 goals and 13 assists. That equates to him being involved in 55% of all the goals scored by the Galaxy for the entire season (38) while missing 5 games. And, this was clearly a bad year for both the team and himself. Add to that these numbers... In 12 games played for the USMNT in 2007, Landon Donovan has 9 goals and 4 assists. So he's been involved in 43% of every goal scored (30) by the national team this year. The US has played 17 competative matches so far this year. Allow me to edit what I said earlier...If Charlie Davies can become half as good (i.e. in productivity) as Landon Donovan, even of 2007, I will be pleased. Of course, if he becomes even better, fantastic! But I'll stop here. No more Landon Donovan posts. This is about Charlie and all I'm doing is adding to the post count before he scores! Thanks again for all the updates from you guys in Sweden. This has been an exciting year so far following Charlie's first professional season. I think he made a wonderful choice joining Hammarby and I believe he will become a world class player in the years to come.
Sounds like Charlie is lost right now in the world of reserve soccer. Hopefully he makes its back at least on the bench on the first team soon.
He's been on the bench for the first team almost every game that he hasn't started so... (except when he was injured) And he's got some time in most of them too.
If Charlie comes back to MLS and plays a bunch of games against Guatemala, El Salvador and the Norwegian C team, I am sure he will hit that number.
If he ever scored ONE goal for his club most people would be happy. .....And even more suprised. Been monitoring this thread for weeks...still no goals
And there is number one! Within the 500 posts limit. *Edit: I might also add that was the 1-0 goal just before half time and followed by a yellow card as CD celebrated by taking off his jersey*
Ok, who had 322 posts in our CD goal pool? And boo to the ref for the yellow card--doesn't he know how long we've waited for this? A little celebration was in order!
Hell yeah!!! That's our boy! It was a very well taken goal as well. He just beat the defender with speed and slotted it home perfectly. Great goal!
