    Real Betis v Cádiz: Preview
    PA

SEVILLA, November 26 (Primera Liga) - Real Betis captain Juanito Gutierrez has urged his team-mates to channel their efforts into improving their precarious league position now that they have been eliminated from the Champions League.

Defeat in the fiercely competitive Andalucian derby against Sevilla left the Betis players bruised and demoralised while they were also knocked out of Europe's premier competition on Wednesday after managing only a draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The result in itself was good but on the back of their other performances in the group they will now be competing in the UEFA Cup.

Betis have no time to wallow in their plight as they are currently lying third from bottom in the league and they need to start picking up points quickly. That will not be easy however against a Cadiz side who, although out of form, remain a competitive and organised side.

``We cannot be overly pleased by what has happened in the Champions League because we have not gone through to the next round. However we have competed against Liverpool, the actual champions and Chelsea, the Premier League champions and one of the best teams in the world and so for that reason we are partly satisfied,'' said Juanito.

``We need to learn from the mistakes that we made so that if we return with another opportunity then we can do better. Now we are in the UEFA Cup and we have a lot more chances there in spite of the fact that we wanted to stay in the Champions League and compete amongst the best.

``Domestically we are not going as we would have liked - above all with our position in the table. We have had good games but in the end we have lost by the smallest of margins. That means that we are now in a position which is worrying although there are still a lot of games to be played. We need now to all work together and start to pick up maximum points.

He also bemoaned the side's shortage of forwards saying: ``We have been unlucky in that we have been left without strikers and that is going to be a problem against Cadiz.

``Oliveira is injured and Dani will also be out of action for a month. So we will now have to do what we can with Fernando Varela or whoever else plays with him.''

The match against Betis is going to have extra significance for Cadiz's Juanjo Bezares who was trained in the Sevilla ranks and will now be going out to beat his former club's rivals.

``If I have a good game against Betis I know that everyone in Sevilla will take notice. I do not think that the reaction I get will be like when Sergio Ramos (ex-Sevilla player) played there but for me it will be a big match and I will go out to do my best,'' he said.

Cadiz coach Victor Esparrago could be without Matias Pavoni who has a thigh strain and is a doubt for the match.

    Deportivo La Coruña 1-0 Cádiz

LA CORUNA, December 11 (Primera Liga) - Diego Tristan scored the only goal of the game to gave Deportivo La Coruna victory over newly-promoted Cadiz.

Tristan's goal came five minutes after the restart when he latched onto a long pass from Juan Carlos Valeron to fire his side ahead.

Depor failed to double their advantage despite creating numerous chances but they managed to defend their three points without too much difficulty.

It was Cadiz who had the first effort on goal when Oli Alvarez hit a right foot shot that forced Jose Molina into action.

Depor, though, started to exert their authority over the game and in Valeron they had a player bristling with ideas and guile.

Indeed, it was his weighted pass for Sergio Gonzalez that enabled him to have Deportivo's first opportunity on goal but it was well saved by Cadiz keeper Armando Riveiro.

Pedro Munitis then produced an audacious moment of skill when he fired a free-kick from near the half way line that required Cadiz `keeper Armando to punch his effort clear.

Munitis continued to torment the Cadiz defence with speed of thought and intelligent distribution of the ball.

He twice played in Portuguese international Jorge Andrade who appeared odds on to score on both occasions, but failed to take either opportunity.

However, Depor were rewarded for their attacking endeavour when Tristan displayed his fine penchant for goalscoring to put his side ahead.

Valeron was instrumental in the build-up to the goal and it was his long ball over the static Cadiz defence, which Tristan raced on to before seeing his shot go in via a post.

Cadiz attempted to rally but in truth they lacked any real quality at the apex of their attack and were unable to find the key to unlock the Deportivo defence.

Their best attempt to conjure a goal came when Jonathan Sesma played a precise pass to Oli who hit a shot that was well saved by Jose Molina.

Depor, though, stepped up the pressure and carved out several other opportunities which they should have converted into goals.

Their best chance came when the cultured Valeron saw his shot saved by Armando but the Cadiz defence failed to sufficiently clear the danger, and Andrade followed in only to see his shot cleared away as well.

Depor continued to dominate the remainder of the fixture but they will be disappointed not to have won by a more comfortable margin but the club can take consolation from what looks to be a consolidation under coach Joaquin Caparros who replaced the long-serving Javier Irureta in the summer.

Cadiz, meanwhile, are looking set for a battle against relegation in the new year.

The Gaditanos keep sinking towards the cellar after todays loss against Real Sociedad who was still smarting after losing a two goal lead against Sevilla last Sunday.

Here is the review of the match:

    Real Sociedad 2-0 Cádiz

SAN SEBASTIAN, December 21 (Primera Liga) - Real Sociedad celebrated their first win for two months with a home victory against lowly Cadiz.

Igor Gabilondo gave the hosts an early lead before Xavi Prieto sealed the win from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining.

Cadiz were pushing for an equaliser until they were reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute when Matias Pavoni committed a second bookable offence.

The three points provided a timely boost for Sociedad given their recent slump - they had lost five of their seven league matches since beating Getafe on October 27 - which had seen them fall to 12th in the Primera Liga table.

Cadiz remain in trouble though, having now lost their last four matches and taken two points from the last 27 on offer.

Victor Esparrago's side go into the winter break third from bottom and in real danger of returning to the Segunda Division unless there is a vast improvement in the new year.

Cadiz were behind as early as the sixth minute on Wednesday after Gabilondo found himself through on goal.

Riveiro Armando charged out of his area to challenge the unmarked Gabilondo but it has to go down as a goalkeeping error as the Sociedad striker, given just his second start of the season, took the ball around Armando before tucking it into an empty net for his first goal of the season.

On Saturday Cadiz gave league leaders Barcelona plenty to worry about for the opening half hour before going down to a 3-1 defeat, and after that early setback they seemed to wake up and began to look dangerous in attack.

Gari Uranga had a left-footed shot deflected wide for Sociedad in the 32nd minute, but Cadiz responded two minutes later when Enrique Ortiz's free-kick found Andres Fleurquin at the far post.

His header was on target but home goalkeeper Asier Riesgo was on hand to make the save.

Shortly after the restart, Aitor Lopez Rekarte sent a long-range effort narrowly wide, then in the 59th minute the Sociedad midfielder made a fantastic individual run, beating a couple of defenders before having his shot deflected to safety.

Cadiz's chances looked slim when Pavoni saw red midway through the second half, and Sociedad striker Nihat Kahveci then had two chances in quick succession.

First he was found by Lopez Rekarte's pass and his left-footed shot was saved by Armando, and then the Turkey international fired wide.

But Cadiz's chances were killed off when Sociedad's top scorer Prieto beat Armando from the spot for his sixth goal of the season.

That sealed a much-needed win for Sociedad, although it was more down to the fouls committed by Cadiz rather than the football played by Jose Maria Amorrortu's Sociedad.

Cadiz was deserving of a tie in this match where Real Madrid once again demonstrated that they can not score inside the box.

MADRID, January 21 (Primera Liga) - Two free-kicks within three minutes and a late Robinho goal helped Real Madrid come back after an opening strike from Cadiz to record their fourth win in a row in Liga and cup matches.

Cadiz took a surprise lead early in the second half with a goal from Alexander Medina but first Roberto Carlos levelled and then David Beckham put Real ahead.

Robinho then sealed the victory for the home team.

Real's manager, Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, made only one change from the side that beat Sevilla 4-2 at home a weak ago and whilst Real were ineffective early on, the result confirms the improvement seen at Real since he took over last month.

Real move up to third, 10 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona who play on Sunday at home to Alaves.

Cadiz started brightly with three corners in the first five minutes with Uruguayan winger Fabian Estoyanoff looking dangerous down the right as Real Madrid appeared to sit back.

In the 12th minute, a Sergio Ramos header forced a one-handed save from Cadiz goalkeeper Armando after a Beckham corner and as the Real Madrid players appeared to wake from their lethargic start both Robinho and Julio Baptista had half chances to open the scoring.

Nevertheless, Real struggled to create any clear chances.

Cadiz weathered the storm and the last 15 minutes of the first half saw the Uruguayan forward Medina and Jonathan Sesma force saves from Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Just before the break Zinedine Zidane put the ball in the net from a Beckham cross but he was ruled off-side by the assistant referee.

Cadiz hit back almost immediately with Benjamin forcing a good save from Casillas at his near post.

The second half began very much like the first with Cadiz taking the game to Real.

After six minutes an Estoyanoff cross caused confusion and led to a corner for Cadiz which saw Medina acrobatically take an overhead kick which went just over the bar.

But in the 10th minute Estoyanoff broke down the right and crossed into the area where Medina's shot was parried by Casillas.

With the Real defence in disarray, Medina collected the loose ball and struck it past Casillas from the edge of the six-yard box.

Lopez Caro reacted quickly bringing on Antonio Cassano for his league debut in place of Thomas Gravesen.

In the 68th minute, Real equalised from a free-kick as Roberto Carlos drilled his shot through the Cadiz wall.

Three minutes later, Cadiz gave away another free kick just outside the area. Again, the kick was taken short and Beckham unleashed a perfect curling shot into the top corner.

With five minutes to go a poor Cadiz clearance saw Robinho receive the ball 10 yards outside the area and his first time lob sailed in over an out of position keeper.

    Villarreal 1-1 Cádiz

VILLARREAL, February 5 (Primera Liga) - Villarreal were held to a frustrating draw at home to Cadiz in a game they would have anticipated winning.

Javier Calleja's second-half strike secured a point for the home side after Alexander Medina had put Cadiz into a surprise lead after just two minutes.

Villarreal struggled to produce much fluent football and in the end will have felt a point was all they deserved from the game, although they did play increasingly well as the match went on.

The home side's frustrations were compounded further when they had Juan Manuel Pena sent off with 11 minutes left after collecting his second yellow card of the afternoon.

Cadiz made the brightest possible start to the game when Fabian Estoyanoff played in Medina to fire home with the Villarreal defence still asleep.

The goal knocked the home side off their stride, and had the opposite effect on the visitors.

Cadiz played with confidence and poise, keeping the ball on the floor and passing with real accuracy and purpose.

Estoyanoff was again involved in the 14th minute when he received a fine pass from Raul Lopez and blasted a shot from the edge of the box that only just flew wide of the post.

Cadiz had another chance in the 16th minute but Benjamin Zarandona followed Estoyanoff's example and fired his shot wide.

As the breathless start to the game continued, Nenad Mirosavljevic had another chance for the visitors but his shot struck the woodwork and rebounded clear of danger.

Cadiz's dominance of the first half was highlighted by the fact that Villarreal had to wait until the 39th minute of the game for their first clear effort on goal.

Antonio Guayre delivered a pinpoint cross which Marcus Senna rose to meet with a strong header which was scrambled clear by the visiting defence.

Santi Cazorala had another chance just before the break when Guayre produced another superb pass that Cazorala was unable to finish off.

Villarreal's improvement continued into the second half, as they produced their best football of the game.

Celleja's goal came in the 62nd minute when he latched on to a fine pass from former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan to crash his shot home in some style.

Calleja had another chance moments later but his header failed to find its intended target.

Forlan nearly made it 2-1 to the home side but he was also unable to find the back of the net with a header.

Villarreal threw the kitchen sink at Cadiz in the closing minutes, but they were unable to find a way through the determined Cadiz defence.

The home side's disappointing day's work was added to when Pena received his marching orders in the closing stages.

I recently read in a local newspaper that Cadiz have a Kuwaiti player called Abdulaziz Almashaan (not sure how they spell it in English). I have tried to go through the links but most of the sites are in Spanish so i was wondering if anyone can help check and see if there is a Kuwaiti player in their squad.

    Thanks in advance.

With the new president and the Ex Madrid goalkeeper Garcia Remon as coach I would expect Cadiz to get promoted to Primera this season. With some of their signings of this off season especially players loaned out by First division teams, Cadiz is in pretty good shape.

    Here are there new signings:

    Gastón Casas (Elche),
    Cristian García (P. Ejido),
    Yago (Celta),
    Dani (Betis),
    Contreras (Betis)

Congrats to Cadiz CF who defeated Real Irun 1-0 aggregate in the home and away leg of the Segunda B Playoffs and are now back in Segunda, after suffering one year in Segunda B. They are now paired against Cartagena for the Segunda B home and away matches to see who will be crowned Champions of Segunda B. Cartagena also got promoted this Sunday defeating Alcoyano 4-3 in aggregate.

Cadiz should get this player Cristian Castillo, 24 years old, plays on the Left Wing for El Salvador and for a club in El Salvador name Alianza FC. Maybe he'll become the next Lucas Lobos or better if he plays for Cadiz. Check out the videos.

For the 2011/12 season, Cadiz should call up Carlos Rosales, Ricardo Torres, Hugo Alejo & Kevin Barahona from the youth system, they'll all be 19 by the 2011/12 season.
The Fab 4 of the Cadiz youth team ;)

Carlos Rosales was called up for El Salvador U17 to participate in the U17 WC qualification CONCACAF. he played all 3 games
