Did a decent 30 minute run right after work. Not the best but better than nothing. Heart rate hovering around 70% - 75% of MHR. A very pleasant evening. The Greenbelt was in it's beautiful fall splendor.
Did a 45 minute run that was hella good. Did intervals that consisted of 5 minute interval that had my heart rate around 75% and then go at a 1 minute interval at a pace that would bump up my heart rate to around 85%. Very damn good run!!! HOWEVER....it was a bit on the cool side and on the return leg home I was wishing I had my gloves with me. Stopped at REI on the way home and treated myself to new cycling clothing and a new pair of Asics Gel Trabuco trail running shoes (wearing those puppies right now!).
Am I the only one running around here nowadays? Did a very pleasant 48 minute run this afternoon. It was absolutely gorgeous out there....gotta love this time of the year. Ehh but the time change sucks major monkey balls.
Well, I sure haven't been. I've turned into a couch potato the last few months because I was injured (sprained ankle, then I did my knee), then I was sick, then I was traveling like crazy for WWC and just didn't feel like trying to start up again while I was on the road... ...I tried to play soccer this weekend and I was sucking wind almost immediately. I obviously need to start running again. :|
Ugh. I HATE when shoe companies tweak a model. I have to return those shoes sometime this week. I didn't try them on in the store when I was looking at them cuz I assumed that the shoe would be an exact replica of my other pair of Trabucos...those are by far the most near perfect shoe in my arsenal right now. Well as I was wearing them around my house over the weekend, I noticed that they felt small. I honestly think they built this version on a narrower last. We have the VI's in right now and I'll try those on. If those don't work....I'm still unconvinced that any of New Balance's trail running shoes are right for me. I might give them another shot though. I have to work Thursday night so I'll wear 'em around during my shift. ----- I won't be able to get in another run until Friday night. And unfortunately it looks like I may have to run on the track in the gym cuz the weather on Friday is suppose to be hella crappy....highs in the 40s and rain/snow. Blah.
That's why when you find a model you like you should buy 3 or 4 pairs and save them. I think at one point I had 8 pair of Brooks' Adrenaline.
Did a pretty damn nice 45 minute run on the Greenbelt tonight. A tad bit on the chilly side, but it sure beats the hell out of running indoors.
I run XC and last week at districts I ran 20:07, which is a sweet time for a 5k for me. But at regionals on saturday I ran one of my worst times ever. I just felt like I had no energy for some reason. I ran so horrible I didn't even make it to states. Anyone know how I could run so great one day and then completely blow up the next week??
look at the amount of training you did before each race. maybe you weren't as fresh for the second one. i train (for adventure races) using the information from serious training for endurance athletes. it recommends not to do any training 2 days before a race and only 30-45 mins very easy the day before. that book is a great resource. i recommend it to anyone. i'm supposed to do a 5 miler on the 22nd, but this standard time has killed my training. it gets so dark early and sometimes i "forget" to get up early to train.
Lol. I've "forgotten" to run many times... I think maybe the reason my race was so bad was b/c I hadn't been training much for the week before my race b/c of a minor injury. Indoor track starts monday though!!! Yay!
As part of my workout last night...I did a quickie 20 min run.... https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=1843428#post1843428
37:57 for my 5 miler on saturday. i'm satisfied with that time. let's see if i can get that down to 35:00 next year.
SOB we've let this thread slide down 4 pages. Not good. ---- _chachi....good job on your five miler! That's a pretty good pace! ---- I've been going back and forth with my friend Prego Cheryl and it looks like we will at least be doing two races this year... "Race To Robie Creek": Half marathon in the mountains outside of Boise, Idaho. 8.5 miles up and 4.6 miles down. I haven't done this mofo in a looong time due to lame ass reasons. However with only 2.5 months till this race (April 17th), I just don't know if I will be ready or not. This winter has not been kind to me...I've been sick for like over half of it. Ugh. When March rolls around, I'm gonna play it by ear and see how well along I'm coming with my training. "Race For The Cure": This will be my second year running this 5K race. It's a charity run benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation (or sumpin' like that)...it's for breast cancer research. I will be running with my friend Prego Cheryl and her husband and assorted friends. This year's race has special meaning to me cuz I'm dedicating my run to the friend (who has cancer) of someone special to me. There are a couple of trail races that I *might* do this year...we'll see though. I only did one last year and somehow got first place in my age group.
Did a nice 20 minute pyramid run today on the treadmill at the gym. Had to keep it short cuz I coupled the run with a ride and I'm still recovering from being sick...ugh. 0-3 mins: 1% incline 3-6: 3% 6-9: 5% 9-12: 7% 12-15: 9% 15-16: 7% 16-17: 5% 17-18: 3% 18-20: 1% The heart rate varied between 70-75% of my max heart rate. After that then I rode for 20 mins
Well I joined the millions of American Eagle wearing frat boy Fred Durst wannabe diots and bought a pair of New Balance trail running shoes. Yeah I'm cool now . I've been breaking them in the past couple of days and finally wore them on a pyramid treadmill run. A very comfy shoe and a very nice ride for a shoe with trail running shoe properties (more motion/stability control, heavier materials). I'd put in on par with my Asics Gel Trabucos. If I ran trails day in and day out I would definately want these in my arsenal, but for general road running I would buy regular running shoe that was lighter and a bit more flexible. Overall a great shoe though and would make a great shoe for a low mileage (10-15 miles per week) "fitness" runner.
I'm stuck trying to figure out Universal Sports' schedule since Irene messed up my plans to watch IAAF Worlds. In honor of that, I thought I'd bump this thread.
