I think most of us here are too old for that but some did back in our day. I did in high school many years ago. Yes Jim a Jingle Bell 5K on Saturday.
I have been thinking about switching from Asics Kayanos to 2080's. I really like the Kayano, but they are a little pricey. Does anybody run in 2080's? Do you like them?
i love that series... started in the 120's... then i kept getting each new model up until the 2040's i only wore kayano's in highschool, when i was really trying to push it... i'd recommend the 2000 series over the kayano.. typically more cushioning with the 2000 series... if you aren't running some impressive times, move to the 2000 series... hell, i'd still say go to the 2000 series if you were, train in the 2000's and race in the kayano's what kind of runner are you? i probably shouldn't ramble too much without knowing that
both back in the day... helped out with my highschool xc program for a couple of years... mostly in the summers, but also did one semester as the assistant coach when i was home on a co-op
I put down maybe 30 to 40 miles a week. I race about 3 10K's and 2 or 3 5k's a year. I have never been very fast, but my times are comparable to when I was in high school (which was over 10 years ago). I would probably be faster if I followed a training program instead of just going out for a few miles at a time.
I am put to shame. It's too hard for my to stay motivated when it isn't soccer season or cross country season. Pardon me if this has already been discussed, I didn't have time to go through all the pages, but what are some good ideas for motivation when you're just not in the mood? I try to think of the upcoming soccer season, but it just doesn't work all the time.
don't worry about being put to shame... just try and hit the road as for the best motivation... find a partner (or more)
I think about what swimsuit I should buy. You could try running with someone. (Doesn't work for me. I like being alone so I can sing.)
Exactly.... For one year I ran in Kayanos back in college and even though they were the bomb back then, they weren't made for my running style. I think the reason I got 'em was cuz I got a good deal on 'em.
What motivates me throughout the year is the fact that I DON'T want to end up looking and feeling like a slug cuz I don't run (or do any other workout). Sorry if I offended any slugs out there but that's the truth. I just don't want a frumpy, out-of-shape body. That just sickens me. As for running with other people....I have tried that numerous times and it just doesn't work for me even though that is the same advice I give to other folks. I tried doing this the other night at the rec center when I ran into an old YMCA coworker. We ran for 30 minutes but I just felt uncomfortable running with someone else. I am a loner.
Today was a day of carbs. I need to go run tomorrow. I would go now if I didn't hate running in the dark so much. I need new running shoes. Preferably with lots and lots of squishiness.
Not great but not bad for an old man!! 36 out of about 110 or so. Very rough course over some gravel roads slowed the pace in the second mile and somehow I never picked up the pace after that. 23 and change for 5K.
Great. 3 miles easy on the treadmill because it poured all day here. Had done a 6 mile run on the AM of the 31st. First race of the year is this Saturday. It is a Mystery Distance Run. Somewhere between 3 and 5 miles but that is all you know.
Excellent. Only ran for 30 mins on the indoor track. Lot of resolutioners were crawling around my rec center last night.
It was fun. I have not heard what the actual distance was but it was pretty close to 4 miles. Some of the toughest 4 miles I have ever run though with many many hills!!! I came in 25th overall out of about 70-80 I would guess. Did not have time to hang out for awards or the distance announcement as I had to get home and get my kids to their activities for the day. Ran about 6.5-7 easy on Sunday with the snow starting about halfway through the run. Very nice.
Where are all the runners?? That Mystery Distance Run was actually 4.09 miles Ran a 5K yesterday in 22:12 which was great considering how cold it was. I am sure it was below 15 when we started out. I am starting training for a Half Marathon in April. Need to get my milage up slowly but surely from 25-30 to close to 40. Hopefully my old body can handle it.
Well, I'm out for awhile. I have sciatica, and have to drop some weight before I start running again. So I'm in the weightroom three-four times a week, and on the exercise bike a few times, and I can do some light aerobic work in my basement, tapping a futsal ball off the wall for an hour or so, but running is out until sometime this summer, unless someone is chasing me. Best of luck to you guys. I'll be baack. Curious about the "mystery distance." Who determines it, or how is it determined? What are the parameters (i.e., any chance you'll show up and have the mystery distance be 34.08 miles, or do they put limits on it)?
Sorry about the injury and hope you get back soon. On the mystery distance, we knew it was between 3 and 5 miles and while warming up we could see the direction arrows for the first couple of turns but they did the rest of the directions after we started the race. Race volunteers were driving around ahead of us and putting cones and markers on the pavement. Pretty cool idea actually.
That sounds like it would be fun, and the unpredictablity would keep it from getting stale, too. I still like the possibility for a wider range of miles, say 3 - 42, but that's only because 1) I'm not running it and 2) I wouldn't be responsible for the ensuing lawsuit after someone winds up in an ambulance with IV's in their arm and an oxygen tube up their nose.
