Rocha may be our #10. I've been seeing him listed as RWB/RM but CAPs website has him listed as a volante which is a hybrid attacking D-mid. Translation... he's got the skills to be our #10:p.
his full name is André Guerreiro Rocha.
Someone please find some video of this guy.

Pretty much everyone on the CAP board said he was useless for them while Buzz says he's the tits.

I'm gonna hold cautious optimisim till we can see him in action, but he's not a #10 type player from everything I've read.

might as well be the official thread for the "welcome Rocha" discussion. no need to make five new ones when the paperwork is signed.

I'm happy with this signing because of Buzz' enthusiasm and because of Rocha's potential to shore up the weak right side, which has been my top concern this off-season. not really concerned about him being a #10.

I think he's two or three deep in his position at CAP. He's 23 (I believe) and from what I can tell is an "old man" in that league to not be starting or a sub. Hopefully he's in the same psychological place that Juan was in as he started with Dallas.

With the kind of skills that one needs to possess in that league I have to believe that Rocha will bring a higher level of play to FCD and this league. The question always seems to come down to work rate. If he has the desire to work hard and stay focused he will be succesful, and he'll probably be a decent option at the A-mid spot.

that's cause CAP is a better team in a much more skillful league than Dallas. Their best players seel for 10s of millions of $$$, FCD's best player is worth $500,000.

    He's not a #10. More a 7 or 8.... at least in MLS terms.

How is the weather at the beach, Buzz?

the right side has not been solid since Suarez was traded, and last season, there was nothing at all. Hopefully, Rocha will be the answer. If he is willing to run like a true winger does, get back and forth, some of the width FCD has locked for so long would be there. Also, it moves Alverez out of this position. That is also good for FCD because if Artie wants to start, he will have to work on his defense and hustle and beat out the presumptive starter, Wagner. A little competition never hurts, especially if Artie has to look over his shoulder all season. Of course, he may be able to play up front, and there will be some competition to get the role next to KCJ, if Wagner does indeed work out, and can provide the width on the opposite side of the field.

If FCD had someone whou could score, I might actaully beleive this team could make the playoffs.

its kinda becoming a pet peeve of mine that guys like rocha come in, he is described as a right back who can push forward as a wingback. thats where his strength is, then they come to the MLS and people (high up MLS FO types too) immediately show up saying "he can be a winger, an attacking midfielder, a #10, etc"

yes, he "can..." but his strongest possible position on the pitch in an elite league is RB, why the hell would you change that? b/c your team or league sucks so bad that he can come in and play anywhere on the field for your team and be better than what u have? Im pretty sure CAP didnt play him back in an attempt to ruin him or stunt him, they played him there b/c thats where he best played in an elite league playing for an elite team. both much more elite than us.

Then he comes over here and every1 here knows better. "we can change him"

just once i wanna get a RB and people not say, "he can play RW, AMC, etc"

this is a league where u could sign evra and 90% of the ppl would say, wow we gotta guy we can move to LW, ignoring the fact totally that he is a World Class Left Back.

It's all about "bang" for the buck. Nobody is going to win a damn thing with a "world class LB" and a bunch of hacks in the real impact positions. Bottom line, an outside back touches the ball less, is less involved with the play, than pretty much any other position on the pitch. To put a lot of talent, money and skill into your outside backs just doesn't make any sense in this league. In Europe, where the skill level at all positions is extremely high, than a "world class" outside back can work in tangent with the other "world class" players on the pitch to create something.

Stick Evra on a Men's Adult rec team, force him to stay "positionally correct" at outside back and see how effective he is. Stick Wayne Rooney on an Men's Adult rec team and see how effective he is. You dig what I'm sayin'?

I am hoping that these types of claims are related to some sort of analysis. For example, a formation analysis...he played a very attacking RB in a 4-4-2 so would be able to play an outside MF in a 3-5-2. Again, that's just my HOPE...

Let us know when it "becomes" and "official" pet peeve :D

Yeah, in this case I believe claims on Rocha's wide midfield abilities are coming from Buzz actually seeing him play (and dominate) from the midfield in T&T, rather than simply projections from his RB play in Brazil.

I know it is vogue to crap on ROB but the right side was in pretty good shape when he was here. I agree last year we never found his replacement.

I guess Saragosa has to find a new number with two new guys coming in, both probably wanting #5.

Saragosa gets to keep his number...

Duilio will be # 4 and André Rocha will be # 11...

Buzz is not gonna go for #11 on the right side, i don't think

I'd say the willingness of Davino to accept and wear a non-favorite number is a sign of a good team-mentality on his part.

[[edit: maybe Rocha's #11 indicates he'll play more central?]]
    [[IIRC he's a righty]]
