I mean we play a game next Friday. We’ve lost Pec and Cuevas this window, Klaus won’t be available and it’s not like we were exactly stacked or playing consistently well going in to the World Cup break. We’re in 9th place with a perfectly even record (5-5-5, +22/-22). Is this season just a write off?

Also 3-5 new players? We’re really giving Greg another rebuild? Cause I’m sorry if you’re talking about half an outfield contingent of players that’s a rebuild. I mean maybe he’s talking about 2 starters and then some prospects, but it’s weird language if it is.

Actually go back and look at the 2024 equivalent thread The Galaxy did a great job of keeping things quite about their eventual signings. The first one was Yamane and it was 12/09/2023. There were then a lot of rumors about players who the Galaxy didn't sign for a variety of reasons. Pec didn't make the thread until 01/06/2024, not long before camp opened. By that date, Paintsil had not yet received a mention.

For what its worth, going back and looking at that thead is pretty humbling. A whole lot of grief expressed about not signing Billy Sharp and Tyler Boyd. Not a lot of love shown for Dejan.

Yeah if I recall correctly with Pec and Paintsil, we didn’t hear anything about them until leaks starting coming from the other side.

Side note - they are asking STH's to renew soon for the combined Sprint season and the next full season. I think they are struggling to sell seats. The other team has two very marketable DP's and we have none and 2024 is ancient history. The majority of my friends and work acquaintances have gone to the other team. All anecdotal, but the G's need to get their sh** together fast, they are losing this market and risk becoming the Angels to the Dodgers.

Kuntz hit the ground running but then slowed to a crawl. He needs to step it up. Way up!

The combined season selling strategy is something many, if not most, MLS teams are doing and it was anticipated when the calendar change was announced. It says nothing about the Galaxy’s season ticket sales or situation. It’s just difficult to ask for renewals so soon after the sprint season starts

I'm pretty confident he is staying in Europe or going to Saudi Arabia.

he doesn't strike me as a person that would enjoy an American lifestyle (vacationing here, playing golf, or going to celebrity hot-spots) and I don't think SKC will be able to come close to his expected wages.

I think the only things SKC has going for them is the new owner is Egyptian and if he wants a low profile and wants to ride out the rest of his career not being bothered and lets be honest has lost his competitive edge, which I don't think he has.

For what it is worth, every team in the league appears to be following this strategy of selling the next two seasons together.

edit - sorry what Benny said.

    Paraphrasing here:

David Mella could leave Déportivo during the upcoming transfer window and be headed to the United States.

According to sources close to the club, the LA Galaxy has inquired about the youth player’s current status. The American club would be willing to make an offer of over 20 million.

Sorry, I ended up deleting the original post when I realized this guy had like 60 followers. It's not implausible, but I didn't want to spam the board with rumors that were from less than credible sources, Mella is a 21 year-old left-footed right-winger (much like Pec) in the Spanish 2nd division, so it's not completely implausible though.

no worries, I'll leave mine up, just to see if it will generate more discussion or if other posters add in players that my have similar attributes to Pec, as Mella has and this type of move sounds like something the Galaxy would do

I really can't let this pass without commenting.
    1. If you really think 2024 is ancient history, then what is 2022 when LAFC won its only cup or 2023 when they made their second and only other cup appearance? Only two teams have won more than a single MLS Cup in the last decade: Columbus (2023 & 2020) and Seattle (2019 and 2016). All ancient history to you.
    2. I don't know how marketable Son is as he is now 34 and pretty much passed his sell by date for a striker. While he has 9 assists this year, he has 0 goals in 13 games and more minutes than the played all of last year. His world cup for Korea was pretty much a disaster for someone who was supposed to be the team leader. I am betting that LAFC is regretting their paying Tottenham over $29mm for Son a year ago as it is one of the few times they brought in an old DP for a substantial transfer fee.

    No worries!
Son may be (is) past his prime, but he sells tickets (lots of tickets) and he still draws two defenders, Bouanga is a beast. In my experience people in LA know their names way more than they know Pec or Paintsil. I'm not saying I want to return to the Klein years of signing any old big name (Gerard, Dos Santos), but I do want a return to signing a Beckham, Keane, Donovan, Zlatan.
I appreciate that my ticket rep reached out to me, but there is no way the G's can finish outside the playoffs and expect to be relevant in this city. The other team hasn't missed the playoffs yet, its where we should be. Vanney has missed the playoffs in 3 of his 5 years with us. Unacceptable and leaves a bad taste in my mouth when they want me to renew my seats.

I think the difference is the Galaxy have squandered most of the goodwill earned since the 2024 championship, including losing 2 of its biggest stars from that season, Puig and Pec.

Also Son is a blockbuster signing for this market. LAFC has a Korean supporters group; they will own Koreatown for generations with that signing, I'm afraid, especially if they win a Championship with Son.

we will see how the rest of the season goes, but you have to admit that Son in season two has looked a lot like some of the washed up superstars that the Galaxy have been criticized for signing over the years.

We reportedly made an offer for former NYRB GK Carlos Coronel, but it was turned down by both the player and his club.

Yeah he’s definitely looked more like the Son we saw during his last season at Spurs. His form during his first season with LAFC was genuinely surprising. I don’t think he’s quite as bad as the first part of the season has show, but his World Cup performances were pretty poor as well. TBF Korea across the board looked pretty poor.

I’d still probably take him on the Galaxy. He’s such a lovely guy and brings such good energy to the team.

Hard to believe we would sign an int'l GK without knowing we could get rid of Micovic.

I agree. Also think of the undecided. Undecided essentially means you saw some of Cobi, Cienfuegos, Donovan, Beckham, Keane, and 5 MLS cups and said “Pass”. LAFC is born and starts with success, new and shiny, and you said “meh”. Ibra says, “No, I am here” and undecideds say “I only care about trophies not aging Eurostars”. Galaxy drop and unexpectedly run of pretty play with 3 Ps + Dejan for an MLS cup and undecideds say “but not that trophy”.

My point being is maybe they aren’t decided at this point. It’s more about playing to your base or finding new niche markets. LAFC gave those who already picked new and shiny an EPL star and maybe pulled Korean Americans out; Galaxy have shown their faithful fans their commitment to winning sending 3/4 of their big 4 from MLS cup packing or to the DL.

The injury report after the game dispels any possible notion that the players not on the roster were being transferred. Marcinkowski's status, however, suggests he may be out a little while.
