Thanks for the confirmation What a nice coincidence So you mean Sasaki is someone who prefers a rigid structure over player expression? And that it might have been a top-down decision?
One of the main complaints Sasaki had for Nielsen was that he gave players too much freedom and respected them too much. He always brags about how the best strength of Japanese players is their ability to follow precise instructions.
Veertien Mie Ladies at their 4th 0-0 draw out of 6 matches! They're the only team in Nadeshiko League Division 1 and 2 who haven't score a single goal yet in 6 matchdays. Their 0-0 draws' strategy could be good if they didn't lose all of the other matches. Meanwhile JFA Academy Fukushima don't seem in a much better shape than last season, but at least, with today's win, they left the last-place to Yamato Sylphid and passed Veertiern Mie Ladies also. I am impressed by Diavorosso Hiroshima: in the past season they had always seemed middle-to-low fodder, while this year they really look strong.
The current cumulative rankings' upkeep, with the last games of this week-end (including the U-20 final; although the U-20 game is finished, I'll keep taking track of all the 3 games + extra-game until they have all ended): 1 Unepommekun 1375 2 Lohmann 1075 3 Blissett 1070 4 Miora 970 5 Lukephan 650 6 Elstree 565 7 Quango 430 8 Frideswide 25 I hope I made some little mistake in additioning point: the difference between @Lohmann and me seems so tiny that it sounds suspect!
If I recall correctly, Sasaki was not happy with Nielsen's approach and replaced him with someone who would follow his idea of how Nadeshiko should play. I just saw Ponde_Ringo's response...
@unepommekun since you got 6 points in each division this week... that means you get a red card and have to miss 2 games..................... I did wonder about their drop in form last season continuing into this season. Thought it might be the young players preferring to go to a WE League teams youth program, now that the WE League is better established. Edit ... 2026 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_AFC_U-17_Women's_Asian_Cup
India and Australia at group stage: there is not much variety in Asian women's football, is there? (I will admit Lebanon sounds new, though ).
I don't want to excuse their coach or their players, but the consequences for losing, or expressing anything but hostility to Japan, might be something we don't understand outside of their country. The person inside, might be different from how they are expected to behave.
If expressing hostility towards a sporting rival is their standard and to be expected, they should not be part of int'l sporting community in the first place.
I hope everyone is safe and well following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Take care of yourselves over there, friends.
