Welcome to the way Chivas does business. They pay a premium if there’s a Mexican national player available. He’s not worth $7 million, but if you only hire Mexican players, the pool limits you, and all other teams know that.

Seems like it was a life long dream of his, so good news for him.

Those aren’t bad offensive stats for a midfielder on a mediocre team, but yeah, $7m seems a bit steep.

The money we get for him could really help us out in the summer transfer window (if AEG lets us use it).

Hey I am hearing Cristiano Ronaldo is out of contract this summer. Maybe we can give him a 1 year non DP deal so he can get his goal record and fight Messi one more time before it's too late. The only question is would he want to come here and be our new DeJan for like a year and 6 months lol.

Good news on our young CB player Ascel Essengue, who is on loan at USL Championship side Phoenix Rising. I think it's fair to say we need to develop some of our home grown centerbacks and Essengue was too old and physically developed for MLS Next Pro. You have to temper your enthusiasm for young players having success in USL-C (Wynder was USL young player of the year and he's needed some time to adjust, although he appears to have the physical tools and he played better his last few times out as he learns Vanney's system), but it's still nice that Essengue is being noticed for his play there.

Good to hear about an up and coming CB. I am probably over-reacting, but I am ready to ash can all our CB's except Garces, and only his talent gives him a reprieve. It has been so apparent that Yoshida is well past his sell-by date, and Zanka is a bandaid.

That would be one way to improve the team by allowing the Galaxy to acquire a new U22 player.

Salary data is out from the MLSPA

I don't think Nascimento and Sanabria's salaries reflect how they hit the cap. I think they are $150K or $200K because they are both on U22 status. You can see why they really want to play and develop them at those prices though.

Zanka is way too expensive for what he provides

Same with Marcinkowski, but it would be better if he was the clear #1 or #2. It's not expensive for his pedigree, but it is for his current use

Here's a link to the full salaries. Zanka getting more money than Yoshida is crazy, but the Galaxy clearly saw that Yoshida was heading for a cliff. McCarthy needs to go from a salary perspective. Can't pay that much for a backup.

You can see one of the reason we are fighting so hard against the cap. Aside from Yoshida, no player has taken a pay cut, and there are some huge raises here.

I think a GK will depart this summer, there are a couple reasons we can't pay Micovic or McCarthy to stay on the bench. The resolution of this problem will depend a lot on how Micovic will perform in the next few weeks.

Yeah all those guys got bonuses for the MLS Cup win last year and that money is put onto the cap for this year.

Oh definitely. Makes no sense to punish teams for wanting to go all in on winning MLS Cup, but well, welcome to MLS.

The more this happens, the more it may drive established international stars away. Because who wants this kind of crap.
Edit: Didn't Puigee and Reus express this sentiment of how the league punishes success?

Fans too. Hard to watch this season when we had so much more success than last year. Losing Jovelic, Brugman, Delgado, etc. all in one swoop is painful on and off the field.

Not only hurts the league in the context of league play, but also hurts the league in CCL as well. It's awesome to have your league champion have a poor showing in CCL because it's been gutted during the off season because the team was too successful in the league.

MLS is never going to shake the "Mickey Mouse" League moniker, I get that they probably forced this rule to prevent dynasties when the league was afraid of being top heavy (hey yoooo!!) in the early years so struggling teams wouldn't fold and now they push the league having parity that other leagues around the World do not have.

I'm sure MLS will change the rules when Messi and his motley crew win the MLS Cup so they can keep them together to make another run and they can print money as they play up the Messi "double"

for baseball fans, this would be like the Dodgers winning the WS and then are forced to give up Freeman, Smith, Betts and Kershaw so other teams can have a chance.

While true, I am not sure the MLS Players Assoc. numbers include past bonuses, it focuses on current year compensation. It doesn't include MLS's 401k contribution for example which is part of the cap. I would guess that the increases shown are real.

But the increases for this year may have been triggered by performance and team bonuses under their contracts. Still real, but also still a result of winning.

Regardless of what led to them, it's pretty clear we have some overpaid guys

Yes!! I recently saw on Reddit someone say “I’m glad Miami got the CWC spot over the Galaxy got Miami has looked so good!” Umm yeah. What a great league! The champion has to dismantle their team due to the salary cap AND they lose out on a spot to compete on the global stage. But yes, MLS gets to show off Messi.

Bibout in negotiations for a transfer to Gent. Galaxy have a 25% sell-on clause, so we could convert some of his fee to GAM.
