Emiro Garces is he u22? According to Colombian press Galaxy paid 1.4 million for transfer fees. I'm not sure if I heard something like that in COG
Garces is not listed as a U22 on the Galaxy roster, which makes sense because we can only have 2 with three DPs and Aude and Jovelic were already signed under the U22 initiative. So, Jovelic or Aude would have to depart before we could sign another U22
I don't think that this is correct. MLS changed their roster composition rules in July of 2024. All teams can have 6 prime roster spots. Teams had to choose between either the 3 DP - 3 U22 model or a 2 DP - 4 U22 model. The Galaxy choose the original 3 - 3 model because they already had 3 DPs. Interestingly, LAFC choose the 2 - 4 model. I don't know how often teams can switch models.
Thanks for correcting me. That must be why I thought we had an open U22 spot. Garces, however, still isn’t listed as a U22 on the Galaxy roster. I don’t know if that is a mistake, but he was originally acquired on loan and then converted to a 5 year deal before that change to the U22 rules was made.
Here is a link for the MLS Roster for the Galaxy (and all other teams) as of Sept 17. It seems more accurate than the one I posted previously https://mlssoccer.app.box.com/s/97pbd256zqyzsgxbag50ji50v2d2x9nb DPs - Paintsil, Puig YDP - Pec U22 players - Aude and Jovelic (Garces is a TAM player) Homegrowns - Cuevas, Neal, Ramos (but NOT Cerrillo or Parente) Int'l - Aude, Caceres, Garces, Jovelic, Micovic, Paintsil, Pec, Puig, Reus, Yamane, Yoshida (plus Bibout and Vivi, who don't count because they are on loan) Players out of contract - Yoshida Players out of contract with club options - Caceres and Delgado So, we have an open U22 slot as I originally thought, but we have to protect Cerrillo for the expansion draft.
Great find! The LA Galaxy website roster list is very incomplete compared to this. So looks like we have Cuevas, Neal and Ramos Jr. automatically protected and then get to protect 12 more players. So I think my list would be: Puig Pec Paintsil Joveljic Garces Cerrillo Delgado Aude Yamane Reus Nelson Micovic Yes I think we should protect Nelson ahead of McCarthy. But leaving McCarthy unprotected is the one thing I am unsure about.
I know we’ve invested in micovic but I’d protect McCarthy over him 100 out of 100 times. What a blow to a tight knit group it would be to lose him.
End of season contract statuses were just released, nothing surprising: DEC. 10 – Fresh off their record sixth MLS Cup title, LA are talking with Maya Yoshida about a new deal. Yoshida captained LA in 2024, forming a center-back partnership with Emiro Garcés. Also, the Galaxy exercised their 2025 contract options for homegrown center back Jalen Neal and midfielder Mark Delgado. And they moved on from veteran Uruguayan defender Martín Cáceres. Can LA run it back in 2025? Contract Options Exercised (Dec. 10) Mark Delgado (M) Tucker Lepley (M) Jalen Neal (D) Isaiah Parente (M) Gino Vivi (M) Contract Option Declined (Dec. 10) Martín Cáceres (D) In Discussions (Dec. 10) Brady Scott (GK) Maya Yoshida (D) Eriq Zavaleta (D)
Zaveleta hanging around to see if there is a league minimum "vibes" spot. More goals than Giroud last year
Continuing my post from roster 2024 . I believe Pec is a unique player. He is talanted and he has physical ability and desire to run from offense to defense every game. At least at this stage / age of his career. A lot of talanted players in the world don't have same kind of physical ability. A lot have it, but only playing offense, or occasionally can run offense defense during important stretch of the game, or can do it for full game when it matters the most. Pec runs every game. And he can outrun just substituted defender on 89th minute of the game on Wednesday. Yes, he needs the right environment to blossom, which he didn't have in Vasco da gama. He needs a right offensive structure and Juninho to reveal all his potential. He showed himself this past season as a player which most coaches would dream about. So, again guys, i just don't see how we will be able to keep him. The offers will grow and at some point it would be stupid business wise not to sell him. I think Pec really likes it here in LA, and when he'll retire and look back on his career he'd probably will say that 2024 was a best year of his life happiness wise and we won the championship. But regardless, nobody in the right mind will say no to double digits pay when you're making only 2.5 per. So in the words of our favorite analytic Twellman: I would be STUNNED if we'll be able to keep Pec on the team. But off course, Twellman getting STUNNED all the time, because he's wrong all the time, so I hope I am wrong on that one and we'll enjoy Pec on our beloved team for at least one more season. But, in Kuntz we trust, and hopefully he has an eye on couple new prospects like Pec. And let's not forget about rumors which were circulating earlier about De Bruyne possible signing in 2025 ( he is in contact negotiations with MC right now, so let's see how that will go).
This. I'm not sure San Diego would take the risk to take Micovic, who is still inexperienced and who occupies an international spot. Maybe they can trade him to another team but it's way more risky to let McCarthy unprotected. Otherwise I agree with @TrickHog list.
Everything seems logic here, except maybe for Vivi who I don't see staying. Maybe we'll manage to sell him ? I would happily keep Yoshida with a reduced salary, Zavaleta with league minimum, and Scott too, he looked like a solid third keeper. Thank you Martin Caceres, good player who was sometimes on the edge but really brang something to the club over the last two and a half years.
Players available to San Diego LA Galaxy Bibout, Aaron Berry, Miguel Brugman, Gastón Cáceres, Martín Fagúndez, Diego Lepley, Tucker Parente, Isaiah Scott, Brady Vivi, Gino Yoshida, Maya Zavaleta, Eriq
Big risk to lose Fagundez, who is still only 29. That said, the fact he has a huge salary could make him less desirable. I'm less concerned about Yoshida and Brugman.
Hmmm..... if Cerrillo isn't counted as a homegrown, then that means we protected 13 players. So maybe he still counts as homegrown and is protected?
Agreed. San Diego’s first signing was a young GK - Duran Feree - who is 18 and has played minutes in USL Championship with San Diego Loyal and Orange County SC and was loaned to Nordsjaelland where he has been starting with the U19 team this fall. He also has call-ups with the US U17 and U19 teams. I don’t think he’s ready to play regularly in MLS, but I suspect they would take an inexpensive experienced MLS GK like McCarthy over a young, relatively untested, international like Micovic, knowing they already have a developmental GK on the roster.
Here is my count : McCarthy, Micovic, Yamane, Garcés, Aude, Nelson, Delgado, Puig, Reus, Pec, Paintsil, Joveljic. The Cerrillo situation is strange. If he is considered as a HG, why is Isaiah Parente (former Columbus HG) not automatically protected too ? Cuevas seems to be considered as a HG in the end.
As for picking up Vivi’s option, Saprissa has a purchase option at the end of his loan, so I suspect we picked up his option as an asset in case Saprissa does not exercise it. The Galaxy aren’t going to let him occupy an int’l slot on the senior team
I hope we keep Fagundez - he is young enough to play a lot of minutes and we will need him with Puig out. He had a great year.
It's quite possible that the Galaxy have an agreement with San Diego not to draft any or perhaps some players on the unprotected list. San Diego could receive money or even the rights to another player.
If it were me, I might take Fagundez or Brugman. Right now, San Diego has as much cap flexibility as it will ever have and it's going to take a while to fill all the DP and TAM positions. You don't get a Fagundez or Brugman to build around, but they will give you an instant veteran presence and they can keep you from sucking so much in your first year.
