When was the last time (if it ever happened) that a player won MPV of the top league while having 0 call-ups with the senior national team?

It took me a while to notice her name because she is listed with the defenders...

And it's not done by mistake...

    Edit
Yamamoto isn't the only surprising player listed as a defender. Remina Chiba is here too. I believe it was @Lechus7 who not long ago made a list of "dedicated forward/striker" for the National Team, listing Chiba as one of the rare player still primarily used as a forward with her club (with a lack of minutes played, sure).

My first reaction: "where is Miharu?!"
After a while: "what a great bunch, there is not a single name undeserving the call-up." :notworthy:

Maybe, if Hina keeps dribbling too much and losing balls in the middle or Kiko Seike keeps her scoring drought (0 goals in last 10 Nadeshiko matches, 1 goal in last 10 club matches) then Miharu could sneak into the squad...

I am genuinely curious to see whom he plays on the right and exactly how they set up. I will probably be wrong but I imagine it will be a loose 3-4-3.

This squad worries me a little bit. There are so many forwards in this squad; I count 9 if I include Tanikawa! I know most of them work really hard off the ball, but it is nice to have more defensively minded players.

The problem Nadeshiko have is that at the moment they have an abundance of good players, but they only get tested at the World Cup and Olympics.Sometimes that is a bit too late.

I hope Brazil turn up and give them a good game, so we get a better idea of where they are actually at.

I think with most of them have World Cup and Olympics experience, with few talented upcomers they look like a perfect mix. I want a tough, feisty game as well, preferably on high quality pitch though - which if I remember correctly was problematic during last friendlies in Brazil. Hinata got injuried there. :cautious:

I do not pay close enough attention to the age brackets, so I am going to assume that Hina Hirakawa of Urawa and Mone Sato of Ohmiya are too young for this squad at 17!

Ririka Nezu (I do not know why they spell her name Nedu) of Chiba and Anon Tsuda of Sendai are a bit unlucky not to make the squad. I mean given how many forwards Nielsen just picked for the senior team you would imagine they would have felt quite confident of getting selected.

I am glad they are taking Elfen's Rinka Higuchi and Miki Kimura. I mean I hope they stay at Elfen next season because they have looked pretty solid for Elfen.

It is always hard to tell what these squads will actually play like, but it looks okay to me.

Yoshida is already stepping down from his manager position at Sanfrecce.

    He had 3 goals :
    • WeLeague top 3
    • Win the WeLeague Cup
    • Get in the top 4 in Empress' cup
And indeed only achieved one. He admits that the 2nd half of the season was unsatisfying.

I have mixed feelings about this because I think that the year may have been a disappointment, but it's not like it was a big failure and leaving after only one season is certainly not the best way to build a better team or making them play better.
So far since the WeLeague had began, Regina and Albirex had only 2 coaches and, imo, are the teams that improved the most.

I'm really glad that Arai Moka was selected. I didn't expect it at all.
She is an aggressive and energetic player like Yanase superior in technique, but FW? I doubt it.
Overall, this looks like a good selection with central players in every section.

I didn't follow the event: was Moeka Minami on the pitch?

Oh, sorry I forgot about her... mostly because some time ago I read interview in which she basically sugested she will leave Roma in the near future. I thought to myself she already left.

To answer your question: Moeka Minami wasn't called by the club for this tourney.

It does not necessary mean she is already out of Roma, perhaps she was given some rest... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It seems that Nielsen told Chiba and Yamamoto to try to play as a FB.
